  1. he might yet. With the firehose of press over it, it may yet to turn out to be the best strategy to have let that all come out before going after Scheer. Even the legal threat, with any luck Scheer won't be able to help himself and he's say something even dumber sooner or later. If Trudeau had tried to bring this up a month ago, it would have been drowned out. Now people have had a chance to hear a lot more about everyones actions and its not as black and white as it first appeared.
  2. my daughters 1st boyfriend was kind of a jerk, and he happened to have a severe peanut allergy. I'll admit, I thought "well, that could be useful."
  3. for some reason that sounds dirty.
  4. apparently its all about "rage" in Alberta right now. Yeah, makes sense, people do dumb things when they're mad. https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/jason-kenney-opinion-1.5094708 Alberta's rage has rendered Jason Kenney near-bulletproof
  5. I guess I'm old school, I put more value in the mens league experience for projecting a players real skill set. But I'd be happy to be surprised by a player from that group this year too. Just don't want more smurfs.
  6. whats the highest pick we can get in a trade for a player over 25 on our team?

Tanev- late 1st           (Toronto, Winnipeg, NYI)

Markstrom- late 1st   (Calgary, San Jose, Columbus)

Pearson- mid 2nd      (anyone basically, probably keep him for now)

Sutter- mid-late 2nd  (Pittsburg, Colorado, Edmonton)

Im positive that Benning will want to do something though, considering its a hometown draft and he keeps talking about it.

      why trade pearson

      makes no sense at all

jb looked for a line partner for bo for a large part of the season

      and found pearson

      and they play well together

why trade him and force a new search for a line mate for bo

bo deserves a quality line mate

No one's saying to trade Pearson or anybody for that matter. We're just stating everybody's value.

  7. I think Benning already went for the safer d bet once in Juolevi, who I liked and still like as a pick. I do think the Soderstrom - Stralman comp is a good one, thats what I've seen him projected as, a very good #3d. At 10 if we actually got someone as good as Stralman I'd consider that a win for our future, given the cost of obtaining players like that now either in trade of free agency. But you make a good point, you don't want to limit the potential right off the bat. Its a tough one but my guess is the decision will be made easier by a player falling to us like last year.
  8. its also the idea that the justice system is free from influence thats odd to me. Influence can be a good thing. Without influence there'd be no sentencing reform, or dying with dignity laws, or consideration of things like how skewed treatment of aboriginal people has been in the system. etc etc. Thats all changing because of political influence. But some jobs, centred in Quebec? pffft, thats scandalous.
  9. and why shouldn't it? I'm disturbed by the idea that saving jobs should come 2nd. If our politicians aren't out there either helping to generate and/or saving jobs what the hell good are they? ideas of justice are so abstracted now it seems like its an excuse for anything, from being outraged over a box of chocolates to thinking jobs don't matter.
  10. intereresting opinion, which from him carries more weight than most. http://www.rubyshiller.com/service/clayton-ruby/ It was an odd part of JWRs tape where she dodged the PCO offer to hire McLachlin. Why not get her take on it?
  11. my worry about him and a couple of the other US players is are people looking at the USNDP this year as the next shiny object to get some attention and are those guys getting valued too high? I'm high on Soderstrom because he's one of a handful of guys actually competing and doing well in a men's league. To me "BPA" is a right handed d that is proving himself in the SHL vs. maybe another smallish winger. But what I know about scouting fits in a thimble. Whatever happens I do trust Brackett and Benning, they've been getting better every year in identifying talent.
  12. man thats a scary thought. Shink is a good example of the risks at the draft. The back1/2 of that 2013 1st round is littered with cautionary tales. Granlund gets a lot of crap on these boards but he's played 300 games, has 97 pts, Shink has 15 games, 2 points. I don't want us to draft another smaller-side, potential perimeter F at 10th. Lets leave that for later rounds.
  13. thats because most of the silly bs is coming out of AB right now. I hate to break it to you, but the whole "Alberta vs the world' thing only lives in the heads of people in that province. You admit you see the group think, as evidenced by the support for Kenney despite so many reasons to not vote for him. There's too many people in AB that say things like "we do more" and like to demonize other provinces. None of the myths are real or true, but I guess it makes some feel better. I guarantee it, if this was a Suncor scandal, there'd be no scandal, at least out of Scheer.
  14. sorry but I think the eastern writers give it to Binnie. Its like his draft order, Petey should be #1 and should be the Calder winner, but its fine. We have them and they can't take that.
  15. oh go for coffee already. Of course it matters to me. Don't be an arse.
  16. sure, and those 100,000 jobs lost in AB, they can just go to some other employer too. Whats the big deal for them then?
  17. not a Canadian one. I doubt you'd be this flippant about it if it was Suncor.
  18. they could very well get one. Personally I hope they do. But the most Canadian thing to do would be to service "justice" and let them move head offices to the US.
  19. you keep saying that, but thats not what happened. They were not offered one, thats not the same thing.
  20. its kind of a dumb idea, no one liked it, not even Harper. He only allowed it because the original legislation got neutered. We'll see how quickly Scheer adopts it if he wins, my guess is never.
  21. Independent. But the MOJAG is not. Its an inherent problem in the system that needs to be fixed. But as of today, its the law. Yes, jobs. This idea that oh well these skilled folks will just get jobs elsewhere. Is that the logic you want me to use for job losses in the patch? We haven't learned that. A prosecutor in that office did think they qualified, but were over ruled. That ruling isn't permanent, it can be changed right up to sentencing. JWR prevented the PCO from receiving the memo saying that there were actually two options - why did she do that? "billionaire corporation" come on thats the dipper playbook.
  22. I used the Royal "lets". Didn't mean to single you out.
  23. VAN - Petey. There's no doubt in hindsight he should have gone 1st oa. We got our 1st despite Gary.
