  1. sure, but we also didn't give up any assets to get him. 3 years 750k is what you give a guy that you have no problem waiving. Yeah he's filled in fine, but lets not make this into a Beagle comp beacuse Nic isn't Beagle
  2. yeah I can see for sure thats the way it would be sold. We have a while to wait in all likelihood but man is the draft and free agency going to be an interesting time for us.... if Jim ends up doing nothing I do have to wonder what his future is, I suspect Aqulini wants to see some kind of improvement and not just youth development.
  3. thats probably true. But every once in a while a Peter Chiarelli comes along....
  4. No one said disregard the information, you have to do something with it once its out. But you can't justify criminal activity to be able to obtain it.
  5. maybe in the court of public opinion. Not all politicians are scumbags, many actually do a good job. And we get to vote them out. Wikileaks isn't a democracy. They pick and choose what to release and have likely been involved in crimes to obtain information. I don't see how that makes them better than anyone.
  6. all depends on the return, like any deal. Rarely do 'sell high' situations come around but if one is out there I think Jim has to look at it if it gets us e..g, another 1st rounder or a top pairing potential RHD.
  7. Does anyone know when and how tickets to the draft become available?

Hasn't been released yet but this is a formstack that notifies you once the tickets are released.

      thanks!!

  8. well said. He's going try, and he'll get lots of help too, to use a 1st amendment defence. But its not a free speech issue that he's going to be charged for, its likely going to be conspiracy related to breaking into a government computer by providing password hacking software and/or assistance. No journalist would ever get away with actively being part of theft of information like that. Its one thing to speak about things, or release a document that you received anonymously, its another to be part of the theft. Not only that, as you point out he helps whatever side is best for him. We have no idea what he's withheld either, so we all might have been played for years on what he chose to release or not. There's no hero here.
  9. I might be in the minority on this, but I don't see this character as any kind of hero, or Snowden either. Assange was an information broker far more than a "journalist" imo, and Snowden was happy to release classified files that he admitted that he had no idea what was in them, which makes him a dangerous fool.
  10. I'd prefer this as well, yes free agency is always an overpayment but it doesn't cost you high picks. We have a lot of cap space so as long as the deal isn't insane I'd rather see something like this.
  11. that could be, maybe he is this years Pasternak. But at 10 how far does any GM really drop? Craig Button has revised his top 15: https://www.tsn.ca/craig-button-s-tsn-hockey-mock-draft-post-lottery-edition-1.1287914 If he's right we'd be able to get Soderstrom at 10 or maybe Krebs at 11. For me, I think we have enough C talent - is Krebs going to displace Petey or Bo, not likely so given our desperate need for puck moving d, and right side d, Soderstrom is the right choice. Maybe Jim can move Tanev for another pick lower down, and if he wanted to use that to swing for the fences on another USNDP prospect sure why not? here's the latest on Soderstrom:https://lastwordonhockey.com/2019/04/11/victor-soderstrom-scouting-report/ he's already playing in a mens league, so to me that puts him above other kids that haven't be tested that way before. Its not a guarantee but its a little extra insurance of his actual skill set.
  12. we'll have to pick up and/or extend a guy like Bachman to meet the expansion requirements but that should be easy enough.
  13. Stecher deserves it, I hope he gets the chance.
  14. Let me guess, this still won't be enough for some not to vote UCP. I know its a whatbaoutism, but nothing Trudeau has done comes close to this kind of scandal. How in good conscience can anyone vote for Kenney, knowing what they know now about the leadership race? Fraudulent emails used to cast votes in UCP leadership race, CBC finds Documents obtained by CBC News show email addresses fraudulently attached to Alberta's United Conservative Party (UCP) memberships were used to cast ballots in the party's leadership race, which Jason Kenney won in 2017. There were virtually no safeguards against the practice. CBC News surveyed a list of over 100,000 UCP members and their email addresses. From a sample of 49 addresses selected due to suspicious domains, 31 were used to cast votes in the leadership vote. Those email addresses were cross-referenced with a list of people registered to vote in the leadership race and a list of those who actually voted. Former UCP MLA Prab Gill has alleged in a letter to the RCMP that the Kenney leadership campaign used fraudulent emails to intercept personal identification numbers needed to cast a ballot in the leadership race. Gill said those PINs, which should have been sent to individual members, were then used by the Kenney campaign to vote for Kenney. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/ucp-leadership-voter-fraud-membership-lists-data-1.5091952
  15. moving people in an organization is fraught with risks. She said it was her dream job. Any movement away from that could be both viewed as punishment and not taken well under the best circumstances. But you don't get into government for your dream job as long as you feel like having it. I don't know why she thought she was unmovable.
  16. That would make space to land Bobrovsky as well.
  17. good point, that is an option. But it will expose another good player for sure, including any free agents we get this year (assuming no one gets a NMC). Marky Demko Bo Boeser Petey Gaudette Jake Juolevi Hughes wont need protection.
  18. we could but we have to have at least one available under contract so we'd have to go get another goalie just for that purpose - assuming we didn't go the 8 player route.
  19. I wonder if Goldy would suddenly find his game if we got this kid At 10 I really like Soderstrom too, fits a lot of need if the scouting reports are accurate.
  20. its a miracle that we got 2nd and 3rd in 1999. It really is. I have no doubt theres a great player available at 10... but is he at 17? 23? 11? just have to wait and see.
  21. I don't have the link handy, but its based on reports that Buffalo has soured a bit on Risto so they might see enough value to make the move. Hutty does help them on the left side as well, sure not a game breaker but better is better. It beats my other idea: Lucic + 8th oa for Loui +10th oa
  22. sure but look at Arizona, Detroit and even MTL to some degree - all going with selections no one thought they would. I know its a long shot. Just trying to look at a possible trade up scenario, I can't see any way we move up further than the 7 spot at best.
  23. 2012 I have to wonder if we're going to see a repeat of last year to some degree, maybe doing nothing is the best thing we can do. Sit and wait for other teams to maybe outsmart themselves.
