  1. these are the parts that concern me. Well beyond this current little spat, Alberta will be able to decide to ship our gasoline needs in BC by truck instead of pipeline and drive our costs way up so they can make more money shipping dil bit. That is a major f-u to BC long term and Trudeau is handing this right to them. So not only do we get a pipeline most don't want, we'll likely be guaranteed higher gas prices no matter what. I sure hope Horgan is looking at Washington State for alternative supply or we're really in for some high prices.
  2. Interesting compilation of much of the safety info to date was published a few days ago: http://www.resourceworks.com/tanker-safety-guide?splash=1 imo we're still very light on knowledge of dil bit behaviour in different marine environments (particularly the effect of silt) so it would have been nice to see more money put to that as an output of sunday's meeting.
  3. it could, I just really have my doubts that it will given the huge promises elsewhere.
  4. good. I don't care for the threats Quebec has pulled over the years and its the last thing we need so see out west.
  5. fair enough. We can argue about the specific ratio depending on the country (or globally) but there is plenty of evidence to show that green tech is a bigger job creator, and its also more widespread. I have no objections to AB making its dough, but if we're going to put 100's of millions of taxpayer money into something I'd prefer that it not be done on a napkin or as ransom by a US company.
  6. so basically you're saying something you've disliked about Quebec is OK for Alberta to do too?
  7. at least Bombardier has Canadian roots. You didn't just use the term "trickle down" to justify this did you? Notely is also going to raise fuel costs to BC to recover AB's investment, thats going to hurt a lot of hard working people in BC quite unfairly I might add given the fed's stepping in to assist.
  8. that must have been a 3 pizza night for him to get over that decision
  9. I don't care how AB wants to waste its money, but yesterday Trudeau said the feds would prop it up as well. Thats completely the wrong thing to do imo for a few reasons: its sets the table for other companies to demand similar payouts; its in an industry that doesn't create enough jobs to justify the use of taxpayer money; and nowhere in the budget does it allow for this level of discretionary funding.
  10. Oh, it'll cost BC, don't doubt it. It will come in the form of lack of support for some other major project or initiative. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that left to the politicians we got the worst possible outcome, tax money propping up big oil and no increase in coastal safety.
  11. did Winnipeg have a turkey dinner last night?

They spent most of their day travelling on Saturday. MSP airport was closed due to the blizzard.  They were re-routed to Duluth and were stationed there for a while before they elected to return to Winnipeg for the night.  They only got in just after 10am on Sunday.

      ah i see

and minny did not have to travel ?
      they teleported back home?

they have specialized transportation devices ?

  12. bingo. I am a little surprised tho, I thought there was a chance that Horgan might have walked about of that meeting with a lot of new dough for BC but he's holding firm. It might cost us a new subway or some other project though when the bill hits our door step. It plays into the Liberal narrative that the NDP are opportunity killers as well so things could get pretty interesting. All we need now is a by-election or two to really get things going.
  13. yah thats one take on it for sure. Weaver does have him backed into a corner.
  14. you do, but do it with private money
  15. there are a couple of proposals for projects that involve first nations groups that want to build refineries - if the government wants to do something thats what they should be promoting imo, not propping up KM. At least this way the benefits from a project make a direct difference to people in BC.
  16. in the link you sent globally the ratio is 8:3 green to oil jobs - thats still quite a wide margin the point I think is if you are going to put taxpayer money into a project, then it should go where the maximum benefit is correct? if the priority is jobs, then its a clear answer. If the feds invest in the KM project thats a big step backwards imo, it bites into any royalty revenue the feds would have received and then there's the opportunity cost lost from not investing in something else. If we're lucky maybe it breaks even. Thats a terrible use of taxpayer money.
  17. what part of the Shanaplan is this?

Go wash your feet, coastal.  Wouldn't want them turning into crappy little rusted out tonka tanks.

  18. I liked Motte a lot too, and would be just fine to see him win that spot from Gaunce (I'm just not all that hyped on him, the phrase mashed potatoes without the gravy keeps coming to mind). I do think Baer is going to be shopped... but that injury might throw a wrench into it. Thats the best spot I see for Loui, its the only combo that matches up with his past success in Dallas and Boston imo.
  19. I wasn't thinking him but I would think so. His buyout is pretty good just 1.1 per year but thats unlikely too. More likely I could see a retained money deal for him, he does have 10 goals and 31 pts, so at 1/2 his current salary i'd imagine he'd be a fit in a number of places.
  20. if we do bring in another C it is going to create quite the log jam too... training camp waivers should be an interesting time around here
  21. he could probably do it, but as many others have pointed out he's becoming an excellent shut down C. It might be harder to replace that than get a veteran C in trade or free agency. Gag's should have been a fat 1 year deal. Oh well.
  22. scale is the same tho, we pretty much do 10% of all the same things they do, and would have the same 5:1 ratio if we invested properly. Last thing I want to see is the gov't investing in an oil project when there are far better job producers dollar for dollar.
