  1. pretty sure this was Botch-ford's reaction to losing the scoop
  2. yah that seems reasonable that something like that would have been in mind. But that means that Jim has a deal or two in waiting for Tanev as well.... oh man... maybe I'll tweet Botch. but Hutton+"something" makes sense to me if FLA is looking to shed some salary and get someone in on the left side
  3. cap dump? more LHD? I dunno... trying to make sense of what FLA may have been asking for
  4. man someone take those girls out for a burger! 2nd from the right is looking a little under fed
  5. seems more likely to be a Hutton move to me.... with Juolevi coming into the prospects camp at 200lbs and looking ready that could be whats behind all this.
  6. I guess it could have been a Tanev trade... Jim was trading something and some salary would have to go back the other way to make it all work. Although with FLA 4 RHD it may have been something around Hutton as well.
  7. Happy July 4th @SabreFan1!!!

Have a great time!  Happy day to you.

  8. Grenier just signed with FLA, good for him.

      kinda bleh about it all

i think he just saw the multiple new players added to the canucks

and realized his place in utica was in jeoprady

and forgetabout making the main club

      so he moved on

fla might be able to better develop him

but i don't think he'll be playing on the main team there this year either

i mean, he has to beat out mccann :P

he has to play to his size, otherwise he won't make it in FLA either, I hope he does tho

I'm skeptical that he can make an NHL team full time but wish him nothing but the best. Go prove me wrong, Grenier!

  9. 8 million for Thonton... 3 years for Marleau... 10.5 mil for Price... what the hell is going on?

i guess the one good thing about a lockout is it could be in Luongo's last year of his contract so who knows, thats how we might escape it. But if Bettman kills another entire year of hockey I don't know how he can show his mug in another arena.

  10. only 2 things could make this the best FA day ever. We lock up Bo, and NJ successfully offer sheets Draisaitl.

And Edmonton gets NJs next 4 1st rd picks?

  11. Old guys getting term today... Hainsey gets 2 years in TO...

  12. I can't see Gagner signing here... but @oldnews seems to think Chaput can fill the 4C role so maybe we don't need to shop? I didn't think so until I looked up his face off stats: Michael Chaput VAN C 385 203 182 52.7% which are actually pretty good and a larger number than I thought he took at 385 which is close to what Gagner took (425). If they are going to do a 4th line like this I think I'd rather see Virtanen-Chaput/UFA-Boeser. People who watched Uitca last year mentioned that Green had Jake on the LW at times and did well there.
  13. Has Weal earned a deal with term? How long a deal would you offer?

his minor league numbers are very solid.... I do think someone will offer him more than 1 year.

I also think we have a good shot at Kerfoot who is a very similar player.

I'm hyped on him, but mostly for AHL purposes to be honest. I'd be okay with sacrificing a one-way deal if that's what it takes to entice him, but I wouldn't sign him for any more than three years, but would be okay with anywhere between 1-3 years.

I'd say either give him a one-way deal for around $900K or a two-way deal for a bit less ($800K?) and a really nice AHL salary of about $300K. His last deal was $650K/$200K, so a nice raise for his AHL play would be nice.

It's time to Weal and deal.

  14. its all in the Pettersson thread, but his numbers so far are better than Nylander at the same age. He's looking like he could be a taller, maybe a little heavier version of Nylander. But its years away from knowing.
  15. sure for now but that can be developed, just look at how far Bo has come
  16. Juolevi is now listed at 6'3" 187 lbs... when the heck did that happen? kids already bigger than a lot of current NHL D.

I only trust NHL.com for height and weight they generally don't inflate size as much as some other sites. And it's updated each year a guy plays.

@Chip Kelly they have OJ at 6-2 182 and thats as big as a lot of guys playing D last season. I'm much less concerned about his playing size now going into next season.

Damn I wish I had a growth spurt lol

  17. Thats an interesting option too. I wouldn't want to see all 18 year olds get pressured to play in the AHL, that could be disastrous. But for a few, and I think Virtanen is in this category, more WHL time e.g., wouldn't do them much good from a skills pov, but time in the AHL would. Particularly a guy like Jake that could protect himself physically. I don't see them as commodities, I wouldn't pay to watch them or take interest in their personal stories if that was the case and i think most people are in that camp. It just seems like there are exceptions to the general age rule that surely there could be a way to accommodate. E.g., the CHL allows over age guys to play with some pretty young kids, that has to present as much risk as letting a guy like Virtanen join the AHL at 19, but I'm also looking at this from the pov of a total outsider, I never made it past beer league
  18. his coach was on 1040 saying Petrus is ready for Utica. He also said he has one of the hardest shots in the OHL. http://www.tsn.ca/radio/audio/mcgill-gadjovich-will-will-himself-to-be-nhler-palmu-will-be-fan-favourite-1.789384
  19. I'd be thrilled if the Comets moved to east van. I'd definitely get season tix.
  20. +1 i'm out already today
  21. CGY only has 1/6 picks left in the first 3 round of the 2018 and 2019 drafts... pressure is on now in Cowtown to go deep. And not make a free agent mistake.

Good, Calgary can suck it. They'll load up at TDL too and completely screw themselves for the next 5 years, hopefully.

Burkey's vision of the future appears dystopian.

  22. yup something like that is totally fair. I really don't think it would erode the CHL fan bases, they are usually in places where its the only game in town and they will still get a lot of good players to watch.
  23. its the CHL-AHL age thing.... it really peeves me.
  24. i'm just goofing around, but i also really hate the current CHL-AHL age barrier thing. It hurts the development of the best CHL players imo who aren't quite ready for the NHL but won't benefit from more CHL time. Nylander gets to go to Europe as a dual citizen, but Virtanen has to go back to the WHL and play with infants or stagnate with the Canucks.
