  1. "great" in relative terms. He's very replaceable and not really impactful in a trade, whereas keeping Sbisa makes it a lot easier to move Edler, e.g., since we'd have some L-side depth. Whats the actual impact of losing Gaunce...? really what difference would you see next year? It sounds like I'm being hard on him, but its more that the skill set you described can be found in a PTO.
  2. well, i mean if all we lost was Gaunce thats great, or if its Boucher thats even better since he was free. I still can't believe Gillis picked this guy in the 1st round... people want to complain about Jake but sheesh, 26th oa? ouch. Still think its going to be the Sbisa tho, he's improved a lot, works hard, and can eat some minutes. He may even be in their top 4 depending on how the jockeying before the draft goes.
  3. I guess what were you looking for? I think as the #6/7 D he could pan out really well, he's big, tough, hits hard, has good speed, can shoot.... at 14-15 mins per night he could pan out to be very good in that role.
  4. then who? Gaunce just had major surgery. I guess it could be Dorsett? After Sbisa there's not much to pick from.
  5. how so? He's a 23 year old 3rd rounderD knocking on the door to crack an NHL lineup. If he has a great camp he can win a spot, particularly if we lose Sbisa to Vegas. I thinks thats pretty good considering where he started from.
  6. If it plays out that way it will be funny to see the conversation switch from "this is the weakest draft in 20 years" to how crappy JB's "asset management" is that he didn't dump Tanev for a late 1st
  7. You make a good case why Hutton won't be moved and I agree. It could be remedied with a good FA signing but that won't be cheap and will hurt other things Jim's trying to do, so for sure Hutton is staying put. I also think Tanev is staying until next seasons TDL unless someone comes along with a big offer Jim can't refuse or if there's a veteran D coming back in the deal somehow.
  8. yah i didn't see that one.... but regardless it seems as likely as anything.
  9. If its: Edler - Tanev <free agent> - Stecher Juolevi - Gudbranson Pedan - Subban it may be OK. A guy like Hainsey for 1 year would be fine for next season. Particularly if we had a top 6 capable of scoring at an average rate.
  10. Is Gaudette a good enough C prospect that we bypass Glass for Makar?

i'll let benning and his group decide who is best for us. i haven't seen any of these players play.

Canucks should absolutely be taking Glass even if Gaudette is everything we could hope for. Strength down the middle and defense is what wins Stanley cups. I cannot wait until we can get rid of "big balls Sutter" as one of our centres. A top 3 of Horvat Glass and Gaudette could be a great trio.

ya gaudette will be a good c for us  glass and horvat will be a nice group going forward

  11. oh man, coming from a family that that to really work to keep him in hockey? and he had to work for success? sounds exactly like the kind of kid Linden and Benning are looking for. Sure sounds like Jim is looking this way, this Rick Dhaliwal guy seems to have the inside scoop these days.
  12. Go Burr! man that guy can kill penalties.

  13. it would be great for Tanev, and if the Leafs win the cup we at least can say we're happy about Tanman getting a ring.
  14. totally agree. there's nothing to lose by trying for some more elite talent, what, drop to 30? its a great time to take some risks and move some guys that won't be part of the future. I don't mean a total tear down but if a high pick or someone like Landeskog or Drouin can be brought in for Tanev, dammit Jim, make it happen.
  15. If Jim does pull off a deal for another mid-1st rounder, I'd like to see Valimaki or Hague - we haven't had a big D capable of scoring like that since Ohlund.
  16. damn, we're in complete agreement today I agree barring some miracle we're going to stink for a while, so why not take a chance this draft on someone being touted by the scouts as a potential Keith? D takes longer to develop typically so thats why I was also happy with Juolevi last year and how the timing of that may pan out. To be truly lucky we need to find a "Benn" in the later rounds, if some kind of lighting like that stuck it may accelerate things a bit.
  17. When i first heard the Button predictions about this kid I thought he was nuts. Since then though i'd be just fine with taking this kid at 5. I think we can get a C prospect or pick with a Tanev deal, if not at this draft then at the next playoff TDL.
  18. I have a Powell St. Brewery Dive Bomb porter and a 2" thick steak waiting for me at home. I must go to them now, they're calling to me.

you can do it cheap, i pick up growlers and we buy those full beef tenderloins from Costco, they seem expensive (~120 bucks) but when you do the numbers you can actually have a nice tenderloin steak for cheaper than going to McDonalds.

I buy my steaks at Costco as well. Good quality for a decent price.

  19. Did Matthews win the 'who's the best generational player' debate, with McPouty's meh playoff  performance? Is Matthews the more complete player?

I'd like a larger sample size before I commit to anything, however, Matthews seems to have better control of his emotions. McD is probably so used to just "having his way" he was more easily rattled by professional, smothering, legit checkers. And it showed. He was forcing it and making "rookie" mistakes.

I'd expect a lot of growth from him in that regard as he becomes more accustomed to getting owned; he was having a hard time doing the little thing right.

      Well duh, Zepp. Come on!

  20. it would be great if he had some chemistry with Sutter. Virtanen-Sutter-Goldy line? Size, speed, decent D from Sutter and a talented scoring winger?
  21. huh. well that might make for some interesting line combo's next season.
  22. Q For the legislature nerds: when do the MLAs have to officially sit post-election?

Just wondering if anyone knows how long Clark has before she has to call the legislature together? I know a sitting gov't can cancel a sitting, but what are the rules right after an election? Just wondering if she was weeks or months.

My bet is Weaver will try to get some quick wins right away, separate from joining with the NDP. E.g., get a deal with Clark on killing corp donations.

    3. goalie13

      goalie13

Agreed.  I think Weaver will be looking for some things from the Green platform in exchange for not triggering another election.

he's got a very interesting window between now and the recount in two weeks to get some wins to his name, so at the very least I can see a deal for support of the throne speech for killing donations and maybe a study on site C.

  23. I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and come home to a 42-42-3 result so far in the election  this province... i'm fine tho if thats where it ends up

  24. OK... tell me how much IQ is needed to get the kid to forecheck? Lots of scouts had glowing reviews of him without raising "IQ". Personally I don't think he needs that much for what he's built for and Green will keep it simple for him. Willie had him looking like a lost fart out there.
