Best part of the interview. Kids got his head on right and didn't take the 1040 crap bait. He'll do fine here.

screw Utica... we need that!

Went to see Logan last night. 9/10. Fantastic movie, nothing at all like the watered down stuff of most superhero movies. Bring your kleenex tho.

Rodin didn't even come close to Dahlen's numbers at the same age in the same league, so I'm loving the upside. I don't know if he's ready for Uitca next season or if thats rushing it but if he does will moving up the the SEL next year and then Utica in 2 seasons thats OK too. The timing is really good for the rebuild.

If skating and a few pounds is the hurdle to get him through the AHL and up here, thats great imo. Easy things to overcome.
-
Granny does have great hands and instincts tho, which I'm not sure you can teach. Thats probably why Benning traded for him and the biggest difference between Skink and Granny.
-
Rodin out for 6 more months after knee surgery today. So clearly whatever was going on was worse than anyone thought.

That really seems to be lost on a lot of folks. If Jake had been in Utica at 18 and 19 he might be a beast next year. Instead we have to wait.

We need to see Loui under a different coach, or at least more time with the right players. Loui's best years were with Richards, so if you're not going to put Loui with the twins all year then Bo makes the most sense. I think you can chalk up a lot of this year for Loui to Willie's deployment decisions.

Man, the 70s would have been so different without cocaine.

Ah ok. It just annoys me the amount of "credit" thrown the leaves way, particularly the abundant Jake - Nylander comparisons, when really it was CHL rules that allowed Nylander to develop faster. Ehlers might be the better comparison re: development, but he was really undersized in 2014 and needed to go back to the Q to bulk up, in the same way JB is treating Olli. OJ has the brains to be in the NHL by all accounts just needs more size and confidence.

maybe not this game but he's entering at will and is getting some decent chances

There's no debate in the Canucks office, there is no tear down. Stonker doesn't realize that a win for us is a good as a win for the Leaves, no matter how good their AHL team is or how hard our guys have to grind. If our team turns out to be a tough playoff team (i.e. LA) I couldn't care less if they're a lunch bucket team the rest of the year and double flamingo nets 60. Its how hard you are to play against in the playoffs that matters. A lot of fans seem to be really pining over Nylander vs Jake (some revisionist history there, even Bob McKenzie had Jake over flamingo) but he had the benefit of about a season in the AHL as an 18 year old, something Jake was prevented from doing. The decision to keep Jake up last year wasn't a mistake - the choice was the WHL or up with the Canucks. One more WHL season wouldn't have done much for his development. Its only due to the stupid NHL/CHL rules that lets Euro players join the AHL at 18 ( Nylander played with MODO) . So Nylander jumped the cue and got his AHL time in ahead of Jake. Its not Babcocks brilliance that did that. I think if we had been able to put Jake in Uitca last year it he'd be on the big club this year. So sure, Mr. $50 million dollar coach is a peach, but if Nylander had been in the CHL he'd be in the same development boat as Jake.

No but you can teach out lazy and you can simplify things. Sbisa is a good example of the benefit of doing less and being more successful.

I think the Lucic comparable is a really good one, but regardless of his IQ, the job he has done (or maybe did?) requires a level of physical size and willingness to do. You don't have to be smart to get in front of the net, just be willing to take and give a beating night after night. I used to marvel and Bert's ability to take rapid fire cross checks and still put the puck in. Jake isn't Bert, but he could be very effective if he can learn to do simple correct things each and every shift like a younger Lucic did. It sounds like thats what Green is trying to get happening. Jakes shown good hands too, so fingers crossed he can learn a strong simple game and the scoring will come after that. Why couldn't he learn that up here? I don't know, some do, some don't. Your example of trying to skate the puck out vs. playing it simple is what Sbisa has fixed in his game. You don't see him try the cute stuff very often anymore. Its funny tho how the people side of any business can be so similar. I read a funny paper called "Unskilled and unaware of it: How difficulties in recognizing one's own incompetence lead to inflated self-assessments". So pretty much the dumbest guys in your organization think they're keeping the place afloat.

In management training you learn that there are 4 basic types of people re: IQ (or EQ), those that have it and know it, those have it and don't know it yet, those that don't have it but want it know, and those that don't but think they do. We're all hoping Jake isn't the last type.

I thought it was really good myself, kind of showing Jake the way to act like his peers. Didn't think it was out of line or anything at all.

Good interview with Henrik on 1040 today: http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/henrik-if-we-make-the-playoffs-we-ve-shown-we-can-play-with-anyone-1.657281 Some good stuff around coming up in the league, Crawford'd 'tough love' approach and how he sees a good work ethic in guys like Chaput and Gaunce. Says Jake needs to build up his professionalism like these guys and work hard at improving every day- he wasn't slagging Jake, just responding to a question about what he thinks Jake needs to do. The other thing was they asked him this: Q: Would you play anywhere else? A: <long pause> I would say no. It wasn't an outright no, never, etc so who knows, if the situation is perfect maybe they'd go for a cup run somewhere else if we were totally out of the picture next season.

Thats probably the hardest he's ever been hit, they don't do that in the KHL. Ferkface is given too much credit. A much less skilled Matt Cooke knock-off. We do lack the ability to push back harder tho which i hope JB is scouting on as we speak.

Why wasn't Jesus born in Surrey? They couldn't find a virgin or 3 wise men.
-
Good to know. This should really boost his confidence and if he can take some big hits and keep going.
-
Yah I really doubt Blake knows anything. For Boeser, the Canucks present an instant opportunity to crack an NHL lineup. He gets a chance here to make some mistakes and grow (well, hopefully!) so there is a + to being on a crappy team for your first couple of years, and grow with a younger group.

Ain't gonna happen this year Alf. You need to refocus that hope on 2018 - The Sedins, Hansen and Sbisa are all at their contract end next year, in a good draft year. From a long term perspective I'd rather see us hang on to those guys and try to get 1st and 2nd round picks in 2018 vs 2017.
