  1. dunno, Francis has made some weird choices so who knows.
  2. the more I look at our options, the more I think we should just buy out Dickie and bring in someone like Lyubushkin or Mikheyev. Make an incremental improvement and just be done with Dickie.
  3. I wonder where we can find a guy who can put up a ppg and carry a team?
  4. Kadri might really complicate things for us. If he really does get a stupid $10 mil offer (Kypreos so grain of salt) from Seattle or Boston, I think that just makes Miller harder to trade for a big return since there will be an expectation of an extension like that from Millers agent. So we're probably looking at lower return if this actually happens.
  5. thanks, I guess I've too busy fighting with people over Miller to notice
  6. I think ANA would have something like that in mind for sure. They have no reason to move Gibson whatsoever. What I'm hoping for is Kuemper and Soupy to get signed outside of EDM, and then Smith retires an hour later.
  7. its probably a good idea to view it this way and take the positives from it. Of course, some won't but this is a very likely scenario.
  8. interesting.... EDM would get fleeced in that deal, which works for me. ANA currently has 39 mil in cap space so they could pretty much do any kind of deal they want to.
  9. TO has to make a big offer to Campbell, no? otherwise they are going to end up with big save Dave as their starter.
  10. this post makes me wonder if JT can keep up the production on other teams like he has here, where he's been given every prime opportunity to flourish. Looking at how the Forsberg deal was constructed, starts at 10 mil year one, down to 6.5 year 8. Assuming we did a similar deal here, JT could conceivably get ~40 mil in guaranteed bonus money in the first 5-6 years of his new deal with us with an AAV in the high 7's that would work under our cap. If he's choosing to walk from a deal like that there isn't much we can do. Given all the risks of waiting things out until next UFA season you'd think that would be considered but if not, not much our mgmt can do about it. Other teams might be wondering if he can keep up the production when he'll have more competition for minutes as well.
  11. this might be one of those where a player has to think about the rest of his life. Do you risk lifetime pain for a a comeback at this point? Listening to guys like Jovo and Ohlund talk about the pain they live with now its pretty sad stuff.
  12. Millers salary for next year fully covered tho. Myers too. Have to wonder if there's more interest in either now in Philly.
  13. me too. We could swing this with a Dickie buy out.
  14. If I had to do it, I guess I'd ask someone what, if anything, would they have to learn about Trump to change their minds on him. I suspect the ones that like him would say nothing. Not sure if you're watching "The Boys" on Amazon, but the end of the final episode of season 3 is pretty much Trumpers in a nutshell. I'll put it in a hidden thingy so as not to spoil it for anyone - so this is the official spoiler warning.
  15. ah I see the problem. I should have written it as: "the 2 year rejggy is dead in the water "
  16. thanks thats a great reply. I don't think the moves of picking up other players once we shed Dickie, Poolman, Myers, Pearson need to be lateral - I think this is where we differ. One of the problems with the OEL-Myers pairing e.g., is its just inefficient. We could cut OEL's partner salary in half if we can land a right side partner who is capable in our zone and allows OEL to use his offensive skills. Sure OEL can continue to carry Myers to some degree, but its just not cap efficient. If the pro scouting e.g., thought Lyubushkin was better in our zone than Myers, e.g., that could be a very good pairing and use of cap. Now we have 3+ mil to upgrade in other areas, like bulking up the bottom 6. The other reason I want to see a 4 year support plan is I don't believe we can bring in enough elite talent in just 2 years to then be a competitor. With the right moves I can see us being akin to something like LA or St. Louis teams. thanks for the reasoned discussion though, appreciate it.
  17. I don't think that has to be a choice tho. Does one e.g., 8 mil contract have that far reaching implication that you have to give up 3 guys? we're going to have someone in Millers place who's making 6 or 7 anyway if we plan to be competitive. I'd be fine with losing Hoglander. Competitive teams lose guys like this every year. my focus is on the next 4 years while we have Demko. What can we do to support our current elite players. Lekkerimaki will be showing up on an ELC for most of the back 1/2 of a Miller deal.
  18. I do see that risk for sure, if Miller turns into another Loui it would be a disaster. I'm not in the Miller for anything camp, it has to be reasonable. Anything greater than 8 x8 can't happen, thats my personal line. I just like this group, and think we can be a competitive team if we have better support for our star guys.
  19. OK thats fair. I'm going off the small tidbits that have come out, which isn't much, and Rutherfords deals in the past and what he's said about making deals. JR has said a few times that he looks for fair deals, he's not looking to screw over GMs. So taking him at his word, I don't think he's in unreasonable territory but he is looking for quality.
  20. I just like our group if we can ditch the dead weight and re-tool with players that are a better fit. Keep Miller, jettison Dickie, Pearson, Myers to get better support players in. Particularly if no team has offered and elite-potential replacement for Miller.
  21. but see we do. Guys like Dreger are reporting that no one has met our demands yet. If they had, we would have seen a deal. Why would Rutherford not do a deal if someone met his terms?
  22. thats why this is such a hard negotiation. Its going to be very hard to get a team to cough up the assets to make the deal worth it.
