  1. I guess you have to admire his willingness to keep going.
  2. I can't, you need to do that for yourself. I doubt there's anything I could say to convince you.
  3. our support pieces are poor quality. We ran out guys like Petan and Hunt. Give our current core some quality pieces and we're in good shape imo.
  4. yes, we do, it would have happened. thats why this is so difficult. If we're not getting elite potential back, why do the deal? it just leaves us in the mediocre middle.
  5. the biggest factor for me is, as of today, no team has stepped forward with an elite young player to replace Miller. If we don't get that, there is no window coming up for us in two years, we just lose Miller for lesser pieces, and we're still not bad enough to tank for elite. Mushy meh middle.
  6. this ^ is why we can't let Millers agent talk to GMs. Millers agent is leaking info to guys like Dreger.
  7. I've always thought Demko is our window. We simply can't recover from Bennings draft gaffes with one Miller trade. Re-stocking the prospect pool to have a legitimate elite core is a 4-5 year job. As you've said many times Alf, Demko is too good for us to end up with top 5 picks. So we can't get elite, and if we more Miller for meh pieces we just keep picking the middle of the 1st. More meh. I don't care about the last 3 years of a Miller deal, we'll be on a proper tank once Demko leaves and thats when we can do the right kind of full tank for elite guys. In the meantime, we have a solid club that can make some noise and maybe Demko goes on a bubble run.
  8. I could see things progressing now that they have a top line player for a comp. I just don't believe teams are going to give us their best young talent for Miller, to accelerate our re-build (or make up for Jake and Juolevi). It would have happened by now, we've passed two major milestones for that, the TDL and the draft. The two-year rejig is dead in the water imo.
  9. yeah probably, but you never know. not sure where that number came from, but yeah that would be a non-starter.
  10. and where would that be? staring down some two year re-tool plan? no thanks. we're not getting the offers people hoped for, there's no Schneider, Kakko and a 1st coming that makes the step back plan plausible.
  11. I'd be happy to see Miller get 7.5 AAV here, that would be great for us.
  12. not sure we have much choice. Even moving Miller only gets us 5 mil, can't really make much of a UFA splash for that. We really have to move Dickie, Pearson and Myers if we want to make UFA moves.
  13. its the extra year tho that throws a wrench into that. If he was a UFA in a few days, sure maybe. But he's still at an insane bargain of 5.25 for one more season. Makes him a great rental. I certainly could be out to lunch but I don't see any team offering him a 60 mil extension that starts in 23/24. 50 yes, but not 60. He's simply too old to net that.
  14. the distraction thing doesn't worry me at all. Our media are rabid dogs anyway, it'll just be something else.
  15. YES! I just don't see any team offering that kind of money. 10 mil? come on.
  16. saddled... I guess he has no influence on the young core then?
  17. thats true, other teams are 7. I just can't see Miler getting something in the 9's. If he was 27 sure.
  18. because its a good comparison for production over the length of the deal. I don't believe anyone would bet on Miller being more productive than Forsberg over the next 8 seasons.
  19. Strome's and Giroux shouldn't impact Millers price, but maybe lessen the number of landing spots he has to go to.
