IMO Linden and Aquilini split over agreement on the vision for the team and the ability/willingness to carry it out. Q is... whats the disconnect on the vision? Its not talent development or Jim would be gone too. Its not on the entertainment side, thats all Aqulinii's guys. Its not timeline, Aquilini tweeted its a long process.
-
true, but we know it was difficult. Everyone always says family reasons.
I don't know if it will ever come out, but my money now is on attendance being the big issue in all this. Trev just may not have had a plan Aquilini liked to get more bums in the seats, and attendance has been declining every year since Linden took over. Its not fair to attribute that all to him, but he was the head guy for it.

Canucks with 9.2 mil cap space + 2.65 LTIR with everyone signed. Nice position to be in for TDL day.

My wife is letting me drink bourbon tonight, I probably shouldn't be posting.

Why do people say "underlying numbers"? what are they lying under?

i think so much of the hockey discussion on the minds of so many posters
actually distracts from the hockey watching
analytics
contract numbers
etc
we can no longer longer just watch a player
fulfill a role on a team
and see how effective he is
now that is all coloured by his salary and analytics
and the passion some attach to these corollary issues
a bit overwhelming at times
you'd think they paid the salaries and ran the team

Stevie Y is in tight to make room for Karlsson with all those NTCs... only guy they can move with no NTC is JT Miller. Kucherov isn't going anywhere.

What did we ever do to deserve such bad hockey media? Its like a fire hose of BS when there's so much good stuff to be excited about.

No, I think it must be the "LOSING" year after year after year even the "lotto draft" we are LOSING.
Go to the finals three times, all loses, OUCH.and riots didn't make things any easier to take.(I mean I have relatives that were in Australia at the time and said they saw them on the news, totally bad scene).
The media should bring in a witch doctor or shaman to stop this right now,it would be a great PR stunt as well.Sure couldn't hurt.

I wish I could line them all up on the ice, and fire pucks at them. Willes article today was pathetic, comparing the Leafs and Canucks, and how much better Shanahan has done compared to Linden. I mean, getting a 1st OA certainly helps, doesn't it? The media here makes me angry, but during summer I'm starved for hockey news. I think what they do is write insulting articles that upset Canucks fans to get a defensive reaction. Pathetic.

@Jimmy McGill I'm obviously just speculating, but just like with any market, it depends on how the sellers sell him and whether the buyer agrees. The Leafs will try to sell him as a C, and if so, 20 goals, 41 assists, +20 shouts first-line Center at a very young age. The Leafs will want a proven player, a first-rounder and a couple of prospects for him.
-
@Jimmy McGillI agree. If management is confident Elias Pettersson is going to be our future 1C and Horvat's a 2C/team captain, I don't think they will be paying 1C money on another player at this point of the rebuild. The situation's different next year if (when) they get the number 1 overall draft pick. They have to get BPA and draft Quinn's brother even if he will end up as the 1C. But hey, I'm no GM and it's not my money...

How did WPG manage to get worse today with 25 mil in cap space?
- Show previous comments 2 more

Their gm doesn’t like to overpay, day one ufas almost all get over paid Either in term $$$ or both.
I think Winnipeg did the right thing today.
Don’t they need to extend some of there big name guys soon? 25mill won’t last long.
Besides They need support pieces that can be had cheaper in a week or two.
Vanek was signed at the end of summer and he was our best and cheapest signing a year ago.
-
We still have ~18 mil in cap space after the new free agents. Still need to sign Jake and Stecher but we're not going to be close to the cap.
-
People should be complaining if Jim wasn't willing to spend on free agents to help the kids develop.

Pouliot not qualified. Well then.

I think this might actually be a way for teams and players to avoid the awful and acrimonious process that is arbitration. In the report about Pouliot (and DSP and the Caps), it's been noted that both sides are still open to working out a deal.
I mean, there's not only the sticking point with the club that they can't walk away from any arbitration decision that comes under a value of $4M, there's also the aspect of how the club has to basically crucify the player (point out his every flaw and weakness to the arbitrator) to make their case, which is probably not appealing to either the player or club if they *do* want to work things out. Add that to the fact that the arbitrators *aren't* hockey people, which has led to a long history of questionable decisions.
In other words, this might be more about the arbitration process itself.

I have a feeling we're going to be faced with another Tkachuk vs defensemen decision.

@Cramarossa this has to help your day a little bit

650 reporting Trotz signing 4 mil 5 yr deal with NYI, so safe to assume Tavares is off the market.
-
The Senate just passed the pot bill. Fire up you stoners.
-
I wonder if any of the 100 or so Tanev trade proposals will resemble the actual deal if it ever happens?

Juolevi needs back surgery Here's the procedure. It should end up just fine tho.

@Twilight Sparkle was walking there last night

I went to Dallas once, man is that city a virtual ghost town at dusk (REALLY creepy when you think about it, not a single soul at night, not even any panhandlers). No Starbucks (open or closed lol) downtown either. NOBODY lives downtown (*ALL* business it seems other than the odd eating establishments that are closed at dusk as well - guess they only employ vampires....).
One other REALLY crazy thing. I went to that stretch of road where JFK got shot. They've got spots on the road marked off - but it is STILL a very busy road. Yet you get dumb people going to the middle of the road to take selfies! No kidding, it would be like walking & stopping in the middle of Marine Drive to take pictures!

went here for lunch today: http://www.heydumplings.com
Its a couple of blocks from Rogers Arena and was really good. Defiantly worth a pre-game look.

If 'fancy stats' / hockey analytics are truly useful, why didn't anyone predict how well Vegas would do?
- Show previous comments 5 more
-
@Shift-4 yes and that's my go-to example for why it's a bad idea to give the analytics crew the final decision.
-
a well constructed system of play
suitable for the player talent on a team
is not assessed or addressed by analytics
the right system for the cast of players
helped them to shine and achieve better their potential
it is a bit of an art, and less a science, to be able to see
what best works for the group of players assembled as your team
analytics is more a reporting of performance
it does not assist in increasing or enhancing performance
and it not really a predictive tool
unless the same circumstances are present for the same player being assessed moving forward

The Canucks may have as much as 29 million free if the cap goes up to 82 mil in June. ¡Ay Chihuahua!
