  1. yup, this guy explains it well: https://businessofhockey.wordpress.com/2021/03/15/updating-the-nhl-contract-calculator-for-new-salary-variability-rules/
  2. he did. Its funny to me that people think signing Kuzemko makes Miller more tradable, it just means we don't have to see more guys like Petan.
  3. I want Cowgary to drop 22 mil on gnome and catpuke.
  4. I really hope we can find a way to keep Miller, but that 2nd oa from NJ would be a nice consolation prize.
  5. if JR could pull of a 6 year deal at 7AAV he needs to win exec of the year.
  6. dunno, after today I'm expecting Miller to come in at 7x7 on his next deal.
  7. for sure stats do get inflated, or even deflated for good players, in many ways in hockey. My hope for Kuzemko is a fit on the 2nd line with Bo and can be in the 40-50 pt range, and a threat on the PP.
  8. ...and what happens to Kane when he gets another multi-year deal? my bet is he finds ways to screw that up too. Any GM giving him term is nuts imo.
  9. that would be nice. Push Pearson (if he's still here) down to the 3rd line with Garland, and hopefully a new RH 3C.
  10. Bo is going to need to take Russian lessons.

    Kuz-Bo-Podz

  11. So far 4 free prospects: Kuzmenko, Bains, Johannsen, Aman. This is getting exciting.
  12. Wouldn't he be taking a spot from Pearson tho? I can see BB wanting to put Kuzemko with Bo off the bat, to really give him a solid C. Kuzmenko-Bo-Podkolzin maybe?
  13. And if Toronto had signed him: "Big, strong on the puck and can protect low. Great pace to his game ... 200' player that can help Matthews on the rush. He'll have instant chemistry with the other higher-skilled guys."
  14. yes IF the plan is to step back, then do it in a way that really gives us several shots at elite talent. Just move Miller, Bo, Boeser, Garland, Myers for all the 1st rounders we can get our hands on, but in order to really up the chances of getting elite talent we need our own high picks via tanking.
  15. if we're going full nuke maybe. I'm just not sold on the 2 year step back to get better thing. I see that as the riskiest of 3 options, mostly because the talent we'd be getting back in those scenarios just isn't elite. Either help the current core, or go full nukeroo. Getting the 2nd oa tho, now thats in a different category that makes losing someone like Miller palatable, because that kid can step in to the lineup now and we then have cap space for a UFA that can help in the top 6 immediately. I don't view that as "step back".
  16. yep and thats what makes it good all around. Of course NJ could use him too, and in all likelihood they do keep the pick, but its nice to think about.
  17. they are getting there, Hughes can tilt possession now and he's holding his own defensively. Petey hasn't really broken out yet, hopefully thats next season. What makes me OK with the NJ deal is thinking about this as a top line in 2 years: Slafkovsky-Petey-Podkolzin Prime Petey with two 210 and 225 lbs wingers with grit. Holy crap.
  18. this too shall pass. Ours is 23 now, it gets much better fast. But yup, teens are nasty, if we didn't love them they'd be in a lot of trouble.
  19. it fits the conditions that we either need elite or near-elite roster players back, or an elite potential prospect. Everything else is probably in that 3-5 year timeline to be an impact player. Of course there are exceptions to later picks having an impact faster, but thats pure luck that we can't bank on. its that or NJ can pound sand.
