  1. go figure a stock based on literally nothing could devalue quickly.
  2. seems like a nice low risk - medium reward type of move. Who knows, maybe he'll be the next Forsling
  3. I mean if thats the case, then we really should hit the reset button on this group. If your take is the right one I'd be looking to move Miller, Bo, Garland, Brock, Myers and Pearson for the highest picks and/or high quality ELC/RFAs possible, and take on other teams crap contracts for 1 or 2 years.
  4. not but overall that's probably a slight improvement
  5. I think Green turfed our year, with Bruce we would have made it a lot closer. The window I see is moving Myers, Pearson, Dickie, Poolman, Garland, adding in Mario (or similar), Zadorov, Paul, Desaluriers and Kuzemko. If we could retool the top 9 and improve the d to start the year with a real coach I like our chances. Petey-Miller-Podz Kuzmenko-Bo-Brock Deslauriers-Paul-Lockwood Hughes-Schenn OEL-Marino Rathbone-Zadorov
  6. really? what if we got a player like Mario or Severson and Zadorov in. Paul for 3C. A guy like Deslauriers to dish out some snarl. You think teams would want to deal with us in the playoffs? I don't. We won't be winning any presidents trophies but we'd be a pretty tough out. trade Myers. Move Garland for Marino or someone similar.
  7. yeah thats rough on old Bruce its just my personal take on it. I'd prefer to go for it wit this current group, IF JR/PA can find good support pieces. I think on d its an interesting problem - where do we find two right handed, reliable partners for Hughes and OEL... it makes it a bit easier in that we're not looking for offence just solid players. We desperately need some size in our bottom 6 that can also play and make life hard on the forecheck and PK. If we can do that, I'd like to see what this group can do. But if we can't get Miller on a reasonable deal then lets to the quick rebuild thing, 6 or 7 1st round picks in the next two drafts and get some RFA's in here too.
  8. it doesn't, he is the talent for a 4-5 year window with Demko, Hughes, Petey, Bo et al. I don't agree that we can't be a contender if JR can find the right pieces to fix our d and bigger bodies on the bottom 6.
  9. it is for sure. But if we're drafting guys mid-1st round that need 2 years of college or AHL time before getting a crack at the line-up, and then 1-2 years before being impactful, and thats just this year. Next year is that much further away. I just don't see this lining up with Bo's window, e.g. and maybe not even Demko if he chooses to move on. he is but he's also our top offensive player at the moment. We're back to our same old argument over the last few months, I just see the path that you and @aGENT proposing as risky as well, not saying its the wrong one, just not the one I'd prefer or the one that can get us more elite talent, the only path that does that is a tear down of moving Bo, Miller and Boeser now for high picks over the next two drafts and more ELC/RFA talent.
  10. we need to make our own luck. Either by landing some home run freebies like NCAA or KHL guys and some smart trades, or imo really taking a step back and adding more top 4 talent for a couple of years. I just don't see a milder middle path increasing the game breaking talent. Now I guess the other option is an aggressive offer sheet, go all in on a Dobson offer. I'd be fine with that too.
  11. it is a tough spot. I just don't see a Miller deal being the magic bullet for elite talent, e.g., if the trade rumours are true so far then it won't be. I just want to know, if the plan is get younger, where is the elite coming from? because if its not top 4 talent, then why not retool around the current group with better trades and UFAs?
  12. but isn't that something like what you've been advocating for? if not, where is our additional elite talent going to come from, or is the Miller deal the largest piece of that in how you see it unfolding?
  13. So where is the additional elite talent coming from over the next 2-4 years if its not a near-full teardown? if we don't have enough now, we certainly won't (or likely won't) picking 15-20 for the next 4 years. If this group isn't the one to rebuild around, I say blow it up other than Demko, Hughes and Petey. Lets give those guys top 4 pick talent to grow with, because I just don't think we are getting any more elite guys picking in the middle of the 1st.
  14. Really? didn't the Rangers write that public letter in 2018?
  15. if thats true, then why not go full teardown then? let those teams windows go by for the next few years.
  16. maybe? thats what I keep hearing but I think this team is closer to what we saw under Bruce than others I guess, particularly if we can upgrade on d and take some pressure off Demko.
  17. this will be harder for Tampa than Dallas or MTL were for sure, but I think you're correct.
  18. you need to draft "elite" most of the time. We do have 3 guys capable of having elite years - Demko, Hughes and Petey. Thankfully thats in 3 different and very important positions. We also have some really good support pieces in Bo, Miller, OEL, Garland and hopefully Boeser gets back to form next year. Podz looks like he might be able to join this group sooner than later. The rest? thats where Rutherford needs to shine in some smart trades and UFA signings.
  19. couldn't help myself. We really don't have an age problem with this team per se, there's lots of room to bring in younger talent AND have the current best players still be on this team when they can start contending. If our window isn't for two years, there's no reason Miller at 31 won't be a solid part of that imo. We're certainly not in a position like SJS on their d e.g.
  20. was just going for 30+ the age thing is overblown. NYR average F group age is 27.2. Canucks 27.4. We move Pearson and leave Dowling in the AHL where he belongs and we're younger than NYR. Are we better now?
  21. it means there's more than one way to get it done, but you have to have success in all 3 areas to some degree. Benning made his biggest blunders on the UFA side, which we are hopefully free from after this season. That at leasts gives Rutherford a chance at making major improvements in trades and UFAs. The drafting is what it is for this core, its unlikely imo that more than one or two guys drafted this year have an impact on todays core within 4 years.
