  1. the takeaway here for me is OEL can carry a pairing. Which is great for us, because we're going to need him to be paired with an ELC or a low priced partner to make our cap work.
  2. I don't think its difficult or expensive to produce opioids, I'm sure there's a way of getting a gov't approved source.
  3. yup. We need to undercut the monsters willing to kill people with a toxic drug supply to get a handle on things.
  4. I think we're going to have to move to a legal safe supply model to deal with the DTES issues, e.g., so this is at least a step in that direction. I hope the Libs-NDP can get that done while their agreement lasts.
  5. It would. We'd be looking for just stay at home d for the right side, which isn't the worst idea.
  6. they should be closer, they've had some nice lotto luck and a &^@# ton of cap space.
  7. excellent first step towards treating addiction as a health issue not a criminal one.
  8. NJ's GA were horrid. They need C depth thats capable of shutting down other top lines. Hi Miller. NJ becomes a pretty serious threat if they get Miller and a starting goalie or Blackwood takes the next step.
  9. always happy to hear from you the reason I might give it serious consideration without the 1st, is: - its a late 1st - the value of locked in salary on Carlo for 5 years. Thats worth a ton.
  10. I think Necas has a good ceiling still and might be that elusive right shot 3C? I'd like to see what Boudreau can do with him.
  11. what does Laine do for NJ's C depth? zip. Miller has also outscored Laine over the last 3 years btw. Sure Laine may pop in a few more goals over the next few years, but overall production isn't guaranteed to be better. Laine also doesn't kill penalties. Miller brings a more complete player at C, he's more useful to NJ than Laine is.
  12. if we did pull off the miracle of getting NJ's 1st, I think passing on Slafkovsky would be instantly regrettable. It might make us even forget about Tkachuk. I suspect our 15th would have to be part of the package to NJ if we're getting to pick that high. Something like Miller, our 15th for NJ 2nd oa and Zacha?
  13. Necas and Bear? young right shot C and a decent 3rd pair right side d?
  14. we'd have to trade Miller to Philly for a shot at those two and even then watch AZ and Seattle take them
  15. Miller at 50% for one year is ridiculous value. That trade would be good for us from a futures pov, but I'd be pretty concerned about Byram, that noggin can't take another hit.
  16. I guess it depends on their negotiations with Nate M? If he's looking to 10+ after next season, and he should be, that makes a Miller extension tough to make given all the UFAs on their roster - 9 UFAs, 2 RFA's this offseason. That's a lot of salary to throw around. Miller might be better as a rental for them?
  17. Zacha is their only C with any size and they don't seem all that keen on keeping him. Miller (or someone like him) is something they need for sure. If 'lil Jonny sticks with Calgary then paying Miller might make sense for them, but if they continue to pick up small skill we'd have to look elsewhere for a Miller deal.
  18. its kind of a stupid rule. If a player wants to negotiate, let them.
  19. we may never have a true top pair RHD, not sure I want to make that the requirement to sign Miller or not. We may end up with three offensive players on the left side (Hughes, OEL, Rathbone) and more stay at home types on the right side. Another winger can come via free agency after next season when our dead cap is gone.
  20. I have a hard time believing that there wouldn't be general discussions over interest in staying. You don't have to "negotiate" hard numbers but you could have a lot of discussion over intentions on staying, general contract length (e.g., looking for a short or long term) and certainly the yearly exit interviews would be informative.
  21. pretty much. As far us the Canucks are concerned we already have our answer.
