it comes down to what you actually have under team control, everything else is theoretical. So thats why its the window.

July 11th - plenty of time to work stuff out https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/2022-nhl-trade-deadline-set-for-march-21/

sure they do. There's no pressing need to make a decision on Brock in that timeframe.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
JM_ replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So if they can both use and flip Dickinson for a pick, then maybe something like a 2nd and a 4th for taking Dickinson and Poolman might be possible. I wouldn't want to see two 2nds though, thats too high a price to move those guys. -

it may not work out the way AZ wants it too tho, if they are too greedy they might end up like Seattle in the expansion draft and be underwhelmed. If we could manage to send Dickie and Poolman to AZ then I'd be OK with losing an asset, given how valuable cap space is. Something like a 2024 2nd. -
I wonder if it got by Marky in part because it was weak? maybe he was expecting a harder shot? I'm not sentimental about Marky, I'm glad he's sucking in Cowtown. I don't know whats keeping Smith going, even at this meh level. I have some suspicions but I'll just leave it at that.

ah - giving Demko a raise is certainly a possibility. But we're talking here about whats currently under team control. We can't know if Demko will re-sign for quite a while yet, so in the meantime we'd better get a replacement in the pipeline.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
JM_ replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I just think he's in a different category than a lot of cap dumps. He's not really that expensive and might be pretty useful, and likely better than anything they can sign. I'm sure they can get a lot of 850k guys but they won't get you anything at the TDL. -
it does until we have a replacement. Can we develop one, sure, and once we do that we can rest easier. Right now we have Silovs and Martin. Could one of them be a starter in 4 years? hard to say.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I don't think Dickie has a toxic contract. He struggled under Green, but got better as the season went on. Viewed as just a 3/4 line winger he's OK. AZ still needs players, no one of any value signs with them. Hell Dickie would be their 2nd line LW, he might even do well. -

I think we might be able to get away with "future considerations" on Dickie. AZ needs a full roster of guys that can actually play to some degree. Weber is nice from a cap pov, but he won't be on the ice. No one good is going to sign with AZ, so getting Dickie for free is good for them because they can flip him for an asset at the TDL. Barring that, maybe Dickie on waivers? maybe Seattle or Buffalo takes him. -

they will want that. But they will also want players to flip at the TDL. Maybe thats how we can shed Dickie for cheap. -
sure I can see that. I don't think that goal saves Calgary's season but I guess we'll never know for sure. They still had lots of time and chances to take that game regardless of that call.

I don't think the 'step back' comment was ever made by JR, I think that was how our local media on 650 discussed it. Correct me if I'm wrong on that one, tho. This is what iMac was saying when JR was hired: A rebuild, or even a re-set that requires a couple of steps back to fix the Canucks’ problems on defence, probably aren’t appealing options for Rutherford. “I’ll be shocked if Jim’s not aggressive,” one NHL source said. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/now-rutherfords-team-new-canucks-prez-full-control/
-
the only part of this I'd disagree with is in JR being the one to create a market, you can only do so much from our side and I can't fault JR for only getting lowball offers if thats all that come our way. The NHL isn't a normal market situation, not sure the usual rules apply. But having said that, you'd think there would be a ton of interest in a 99 pt player possibly coming in at 2.65 million next year.
-
the "untangle" comments are pretty interesting, I don't know how he's going to do that tbh.
-
I'm a lot less worried the more I hear from JR. I don't want Miller at any price, I'd actually be worried if we signed him for 9+. If something reasonable (high 7's, maybe low 8 depending on terms) isn't on the table then of course we have to move him.

[Signing] Canucks sign Linus Karlsson
JM_ replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
you need veteran d men tho on any team, so OEL is pretty darn good that way. -
we just don't have enough info to panic over steps back, or forward. I'd love to see this list of whats been offered (or not) for all our players that would clarify things a lot. We maybe know a little bit, assuming the Chytil, Lundkvist, 1st offer was real, e.g. I'm glad they passed on that one, that is in the step back and hope model. Schneider tho might be a different animal, as it does look now like he could step into a 3rd pair role. We don't know how willing Miller is to take a slightly team friendly deal. We don't know who may want Garland. We're just missing too much info to suggest we know what Aqulini has told Rutherford, if anything.

stop teasing me with this, I'm sensitive. I really want this to happen. -

no. Podz has already shown he's worth more than that, and just getting better. -
Weber certainly takes care of AZ's cap floor needs, and Weber just has to go home and collect cheques. We might end up being stuck with Poolman, unfortunately.

I'd love that deal.

[Report] Jason Spezza announces retirement
JM_ replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
scored one less goal than Kerfoot. -
So what would he cost us to move, and who would take him? Other than AZ I don't see who. They are going to be a joke for at least 3 years so the LTIR doesn't really matter to them, so what does it cost us?
