There's suddenly a lot of D potentially available... OEL, Paul Martin, Mike Green... might be hard to get good value on Guddy. We should keep him.

Unless you have insider knowledge that Gudbranson is going to demand top dollar, I don't see why we trade a guy who at 26, and best season is 13 points. He's more of a stay at home d-man. He accepted a 1 year $3.5 million dollar deal. Maybe we should see all the options, and see what his demands are before just trading him.
Once we get more younger and more mobile d-men, then I say we should look at trading him or Tanev.
Stop putting the cart before the horse. Might be a good idea to start drafting some right handed defensemen first?
-
cart before what horse
he is a free agent
the trade deadline is less then 2 months away
we need a return before he can walk
if this was a straight forward contract negotiation he would already be resigned
he has been free to sign a new contract for 2 weeks now
i'm sure both had some idea of each sides respective positions prior to jan 1
resigning him without significant trade restrictions
to allow us to move him during his next contract as you would like
would cost the team even more in terms of dollars
get your head out of the sand
look at what is going on
there are enough indicators
trading earlier rather then closer to the trade deadline seems to net a better return
so basically the team has about a 4 week window left

Madison Bowey sent down today... would you be happy with a trade for him and WSH's 2nd for Gudbranson?
Bowey and Pouliot could be a very mobile paring.

Certain religions and cultures have conservative attitudes towards nudity. It's particularly noticeable in the Muslim world or in the US. Really depends on where you live.
You should move to France, Cram. I mean, Fifty Shades of Grey only earned a 12 rating there (so anyone older than that could see the movie without restriction).

It's nothing new in Canada, groups have been doing this across Canada (including in Vancouver https://www.skinnydipper.ca/) without all the press for years, it's just that somebody complained and now the city decides to "look into it".
But yeah, typically people over here are super anal about nudity. It's absurd.

People are being way too hard on Andersson. He's just a kid, and lets face it the refs got too involved in the 3rd period. No kidding he was frustrated.

Not sure who would blame the guy? Sweden got no calls at all and Lias, EP, Dahlin were all camped out on the bench for the last ten minutes after referees kept calling penalties. All three of them were visibly frustrated with the way the last ten minutes played out and it showed post game. It's moments like those and after Russia lost a few years ago which provide justification for not having the losing team on the ice after the game ends. I felt particularly bad for EP who had one bad game and was shifted off the top line, and didn't receive any player awards despite the rest of his play being exceptional.

To make up for the horror of this thread, I will rid you of a certain Sam In exchange for a gentle Ben.

How can you pick 1st overall in 4/6 years and still suck?
-
There's no way we can out-tank AZ or BUF for a guaranteed top 5 this year. So if by some miracle we're close to a wildcard spot by the TDL do we keep the team intact?

I think there are only a few real candidates to be dealt in any event - Vanek and perhaps Edler or Hutton - so my guess would be a continuance of the transition process we've seen the past three years.
My opinion/guess will be that they'll probably make the transition move and deal Vanek to a contender for a future if they're not realistically competitive at the deadline - if the payment warrants it and assuming he wants to go. If JB is offered pittances like was the case with Hamhuis, I don't think we should be in the business of gifting contenders with cheap rentals or broadcasting that we're desperate for marginal futures unless Vanek indicates that he wants a shot at going deep in the playoffs, in which case I think he should be accommodated.
I think it will also depend on the health of this roster at that point. If the team is healthy and surging, you simply don't sell - it is baseline unprofessional. If it's unhealthy and/or not showing signs of real competitiveness, I'd lean to selling even if it may be close to a playoff birth.
It seems to me that Yzerman was in that type of position last year - borderline in the race for the playoffs - but not healthy/missing key elements, so he sold Boyle, a deal that I think was wise for TB and a headscratcher for a young, rebuilding team wasting a good future on a rental. If the team were 3-5 out but missing Tanev and/or Horvat and/or Sutter for example, I might lean the way Yzerman did.
-
@oldnews I think thats pretty accurate, to me its going to hinge a lot of Sutter's health, I can't see the team being competitive without him.
That Boyle deal is still funny.

I don't have TSN... can anyone recommend a stream to watch todays WJ game?

I hope we get another later 1st round pick so we can hear Jim try to pronounce "Jesperi Kotkaniemi"

@Baer. the schedule works in our favour too with the Christmas break, we only have 5 games in the next 2 weeks. It'll hurt if we drop them all but hopefully the team can rally a bit around the good news today.
-
So all that had to happen was we lose Bo, Sutter, Dorsett, Tanev, Guddy, Baer and Boeser for Edmonton to have a chance to catch us in the standings.
-
We're still only 3 points out of the wildcard and we're still better than Edmonton. There's lots of time to right this thing.
-
I think the main issue is we have a lot of players that either are snake-bitten, or just really aren't playing that well. There are some players that should definitely stay and form the nucleus of our core. But I'm seeing a lot of guys that for whatever reason just isn't a fit for the team. Maybe it's adapting to Green's style.
-
Think we're seeing the true importance of Horvat and Sutter to the team. Without them, lots of players are being forced to handle workloads that they aren't used to or aren't optimized for. At this point, it probably goes beyond how they are being coached because they really don't have anyone capable of properly filling their minutes right now.
That being said, they probably aren't as bad without him as they have been in the last four games.

Doesn't anyone else miss this, even a little?

Canada’s doctors find a new way to convince people to get vaccinated

Sweet, going to watch that vid later. I agree with @Mr.DirtyDangles, our food is responsible for many of our medical afflictions. The Western diet is, at times, pure sh*t.
Doctors aren't doing anyone any favours by over prescribing things like antibiotics, but it isn't entirely their fault. If you are a doctor who own a practice with patients who walk in with the common cold or flu demanding pills to placate their placebo craving mentalities over letting nature take it's natural viral course, then you are a doctor in a bind: give the mom or dad with a sick kid their lousy prescription after attempting to educate them on the matter, or do not and receive poor reviews about you as a doctor.
I sympathize with doctors as they have to deal with people some of us would roll our eyes at, and instead of taking the hit online, they write a scrippy.
If we could improve our diets we would be so much better off, but we definitely have a need for medical science. People really need to educate themselves a little more, myself included, so when topics like this come up in real life it's easier to have a conversation using facts instead of wives' tales.

This year is already a success imo. Bo is clearly captain material. Boeser is the real deal. Pouliot might be the steal of the year. Goldy might be able to stick with the team. Our prospects are kicking ass. We have a great coach. If we fall out of contention we get a great pick. If the team is resilient and makes the playoffs that will be awesome to watch. Really I don't see a downside to this season no matter what.

This year will be an A+ for me if Boeser wins the Calder. Its a successful year either way, but Boeser winning the Calder would put it over the top. I don't care if we make the playoffs because I don't think we'll have the depth to go deep.
With that said, I wonder if we make the playoffs if Tryamkin considers coming back next year as we're more competitive, would make room for him, new coach, and Goldobin a regular.
-
My spidey sense says Jims going to make a move soon.

Sorry your bro is a moron, Jim. He means well, but that's of little comfort to your dad. My mom has really bad arthritis and can barely walk at times. I'm drawing a blank on the drug she takes to manage it, but it's an injection. She keeps thinking about going one rung up to a new one that might stop everything where it is and make her feel better, but the side effects are much more dangerous.
@Two one one Yeah I'll give you that, but so do many highly intelligent people. I find him only to be dramatically pompous, and I can overlook that quite easily as I find the topics he speaks about quite interesting.

Would you rather get Evander Kane or James Neal if both were available?

@SabreFan1 I'd say asking STL for any combination of Thompson, Thomas, Kyrou, or Kostin in return for Kane with salary retained would be fair.
-
@TheHitman They might actually go for a trade if they think Kane could put them over the top. The Blues have been knocking on the door in the playoffs for years now. They just haven't been able to get over the hump. Kane's aggressiveness would do a lot for them.

Edmonton's 7 pts out of a wildcard spot... somethings gotta give.
-
Ran the lotto simulator for 1/4 season results. Dallas jumped 7 spots to #1, Minni 11 spots to #3. So basically Bettman is Satan.
-
@Alflives Yeah. Damn this stupid team for being good!

Nilsson or Markstrom? Who has the best chance to be "elite"?

So I'm liking this Loui-Granny-Vanek line.
