it was all about the cap and having to get Petey and Hughes under certain numbers. Instead of creating some cap space by not resigning Pearson, e.g., we ended up having to go short on a deal with Petey. It was a short sighted move.
If we're going to attempt some sort of 2-3 year rejig, it comes at the risk of Petey walking to free agency the way things are set up. Sure maybe Petey will want to stay, but he doesn't have to, and he'll have many teams looking to add him.
