  1. I dont hate it but hard to like given what we gave up. Only thing I can assume is management knows something we dont - possibly other deals where we recoup these picks? Lets all hope
  2. Everyone that is a fan of this team would like the best draft pick possible. However, the coaches and players of this team dont give a “mouses behind” for Bedard or a top 5 pick. They want to go out and win games. I’m happy when they lose and Im happy when they win. Lets just wait and see where the dust settles at the end. everyone arguing about the best odds to draft at a certain position. The lottery could put you at 4th even as the worst team in the league and best chances to draft 1st. Im still confident we end up with 5-6 in the draft. We are not bad enough to draft top 3 with the skill we have upfront.
  3. This is a wait and see deal to see where the dominos fall. Lots of people complaining but thats likely due to their lack of knowledge concerning this trade. So here are some points I want to make. 1. Currently the 1st pick sits at 13th based on odds which is the best position we couldve gotten. Trading to a contender and we surely get a worse position. 2. This was the best package offered - management as in every case takes the best package so its likely a defenseman worth trading for was not offered. 3. We likely are NOT done yet with rumors regarding Garland, Boeser, Miller, Schenn, and Myers. 4. Beuavillier was to make salary work but is a good player, under 26, only 4m on the books with 1 yr left after this and likely gets traded at this deadline or next. 5. Bo was a rental. We werent getting Newhook, Byram, and players of that ilk - at least not without an extension in place. 6. Raty was a bonafide 1st rounder but had an underwhelming season in the SHL I believe which led to his stock dropping. Still has a high ceiling and a two-way 3rd line center floor but with top 6 potential. 7. Schenn and 1 of Boeser/Garland/Myers are almost certain to be moved for futures and prospects. I do not see Miller being moved with Horvat now gone. 8. Most importantly this improves our chances of improving our odds for 1st OA with the loss of Horvats production. 9. If Islanders protection works out, we could potentially have a top 5 pick next year as I see Islanders regressing if Horvat doesnt resign which I dont believe he will. He will surely test free agency.
  4. To Van Wahlstrom Dobson 2nd in 2023 2nd in 2024 To NYI Horvat Schenn Who says no?
  5. Ideally, I wonder if Miller (extended) + for Weegar, Bennet, 3rd or 4th rounder would be something doable. Fills our top pairing right side, 3c and we get an additional pick. I would not be trading Garland now or in the future. Sign Evan Rodrigues Trade Pearson, Dickinson for whatever closer to training camp. Not sure if this works cap wise, just an idea. Garland Petey Boeser Kuzmenko Horvat Mikhayev Hoglander Bennet Podkolzin Rodrigues Lazar Lockwood Hughes Weegar OEL Myers Rathbone Schenn Demko
  6. Shouldve mentioned not my write up lol. I dont think he will be as good as Pettersson as i feel they are two different players. JL is more of a goal scorer whereas Petey is more of a playmaker with an ability to score 30-40 goals if that makes any sense. i think this was a great pick. Hes 17 years old, played last season in the SHL against men and was quite productive - guessing his size wasnt much of an issue there. He’ll like grow to 6’1 or so and maybe 185-190lbs. Some on here keep arguing about size but the game has evolved and high skilled players are dominating the league regardless of size, Petey is a great example of that, along with Debrincat. Anyone think Dach is hard to play against? We took BPA regardless of need which i will support every single time.
  7. Jonathan Lekkerimakki is a dynamic Swedish winger who took me longer than I would have liked to fully grasp him. Normally, I’m not a big fan of this type of player so I played it safe with him, even when he started producing in the SHL. In all transparency, I started to make up my mind on his case from my 15th viewing. His best asset is without a shadow of a doubt the quality of his shooting and his scoring skills. Lekkerimakki has one of the best shots in the entire draft, if not just the best. What makes him so dangerous is the power and precision of his wrist shot, managing to beat goalkeepers from distance when there isn’t even a screen in front of them, every of his shots are dangerous. Nowadays, not only are goalkeepers extremely imposing in front of their net, they are also experts in dissecting the position of the different body segments of the shooters (position of the hands, shoulders, rotation of the trunk and hips, etc.) in order to anticipate where they will shoot the puck. Even near-perfect shots aren’t enough to beat them, to do that you have to mislead them or limit the amount of information they can take. Lekkerimakki encapsulates this last point wonderfully. The release on his shot is subliminal. It requires no momentum and he does not continue the motion of his shot after the puck leaves his stick. In fact, when the puck goes, Lekkerimakki’s stick blade position is still inside his skate base, giving goalies no time to react. He uses his stick flex a lot on his shots as well. Another aspect that makes the Swede so dangerous is the placement of his shots. Every shot he takes make goalies work. He will always opt for shots that will be difficult for them even if his primary intention is not to score. Being a right-hander, when he comes on the right flank, he will prioritize low shots, against the direction, aiming for the opposite leg of the goalkeeper to cause rebounds in the slot. The final noteworthy aspect of Lekkerimakki’s shot is his shot selection. Too often young players who have such a weapon tend to rely on it too much and when they rise through a higher caliber, they are no longer able to do as they please. For excellent shooters, this can be seen in attempts to shoot without a screen or from too far on the ice. Lekkerimakki is no victim of this, as he never rushes his shots, showing patience instead. He does not take low success percentage shots even if there is a chance in front of him. To top it all off, Lekkerimakki also has great scoring instincts, knowing how to get forgotten in front of the net net. The second thing that jumps out when looking at the winger is his excellent skating and high speed. He has the speed to create separation from his pursuer and he is also very skilled as he can mystify his coverers with small changes of direction and shoulder movements. Lekkerimakki is also very agile and possesses remarkable escapability in small spaces, being able to turn on himself skillfully. To complement this skill, he also has excellent balance on his skates, maintaining a good posture even when pushed by an opponent when in motion and/or pivoting. In the use of his speed, Lekkerimakki demonstrates the same intelligence and the same maturity as with his shooting as he recognizes well the situations to let his talent speak, as well as the situations where it would be better to opt for a play with higher success rate. He is not a player who plays at one speed and always tries to beat opposing defensemen, he knows how to slow down the game to his advantage and how to involve his teammates in his attacks. The last thing to mention, and this might be the most important of all regarding his speed, is that Lekkerimakki plays at a high pace when it comes to his decision making. His brain seems to operate at the same speed as his feet and hands, and that’s a very desirable trait that translates wonderfully well to the NHL. Which brings me to what I consider to be the most important aspect to me that ultimately sold me in Lekkerimakki’s case, which is: His intelligence. This is what differentiates Lekkerimakki from other players advocating the same style of play that I mentioned in the introduction not being a fan (Fabian Lysell, Joakim Kemell, Samu Tuomaala, etc.) These players are all guilty of the same faults on the rink ; they hold onto the puck far too long, makes a ton of turnovers, misuse their teammates (especially in the neutral zone), and have questionable shot selections. Lekkerimakki does not commit such sins on the rink. When carrying the puck, he is good at evaluating the information in front of him while keeping his head held high. He is not a player prone to turnovers. Another aspect that makes mention of Lekkerimakki’s intelligence is his skills as a playmaker. Although he is not considered a ‘Playmaker’, he wants to be effective in this facet without fanfares. His passes are always precise and well timed. His passes always while playing at a good speed, which translates well to the NHL. He is also capable of passes on his backhand on occasion. On the power plays, he is not a predictable player by the threat of his shot, he incorporates his teammates very well in the collective attack and he is able to use his teammate inside the defensive box. He shows some signs of creativity where he uses his main assets (shooting and skating) to push back the opposing defenders and after giving a glimpse of a wrist shot, he hands the puck behind him to his teammate who comes in 2nd wave. To top it all off, Lekkerimakki plays with an appreciable level of intensity, finishing some of his checks and not hesitating to get his nose dirty in the high-danger areas. Defensively, he is doing well, showing a good ability to cut passing lanes by extending his stick completely on the ice, which is easy for him given that he has a relatively low center of gravity. It will be curious to see where Lekkerimakki will play next year since his club in Sweden, Djurgardens, have been relegated to the 2nd division in the Allsvenskan. Maybe the NHL team that selects him will be tempted to bring him to the AHL right away, which would be a good option, in my opinion.
  8. Out/Likely Out Eriksson Beagle Roussell Virtanen Edler Sutter In Garland Dickinson OEL Players likely still to be traded Holtby Schmidt OEL will be much better now that he has a competent team and players he can pass to. OEL will return to form no doubt in my mind. Once we move Schmidt and Holtby we free another 10m in cap space. We need to find a 3c/4c and a top 4 dman and our roster is set. Miller Pettersson Boeser Garland Horvat Hoglander Pearson Dickinson Podkolzin Motte ??? Hymore Hughes OEL Rathbone ??? Juolevi Myers Roster definitley looks improved in my opinion
  9. This is what I WANT happening this offseason Trade Virtanen+ Lockwood for Domi Trade Schmidt + 2nd Round pick + small add for Parayko Extend Parayko 7.5m x 7 years (sign and trade) Use our 9th OA to select Johnson/McTavish Trade Braden Holtby Buy-Out Beagle Buy Out Roussel Send Eriksson to the minors/retire Resign Edler 3.0m/ 1 yr w/bonuses Resign Hamonic 3.5/ 2 yrs Sign Ryan Getzlaf 2-2.5m/ 1 yr w/bonuses Domi Pettersson Boeser Miller Horvat Hoglander Pearson Getzlaf Podkolzin Motte Dickonson Hymore Hughes Parayko Rathbone Hamonic Juolevi Edler Demko Who better to mentor Podkolzin and further develop Horvat than Getzlaf? In two years time Johnson/McTavish will be ready to take over 3c.
  10. Trades To Van Reinhart To Buff Schmidt DiPietro Lind 2nd Round Pick 2022 3rd Round Pick 2022 (MIN) To Van Jordan Greenway 3rd Round Pick 2022 To Min 9th OA 2021 Eriksson 25% Retained Sign Adam Larsson 4.75 x 4-5 Edler 3.25 x 1 Sutter 2.5 x 2 Hamonic 2 x 2 Buyout Roussell Virtanen Expansion Draft Myers Greenway Pettersson Boeser Reinhart Horvat Hoglander Pearson Miller Podkolzin Highmore Sutter Motte Hughes Larsson Edler Rathbone Juolevi Hamonic The Canucks are looking for a 3c. Why not move Miller to 3c and look for a top 6 forward - Reinhart fits the bill and we finally have a winger for Horvat. Buff gets a d partner for Dahlin, a potential goalie for the future, a top 9 prospect in Lind and 2 draft picks to begin what i hope is the last rebuild for them. Greenway likely gets lost in the expansion draft if he stays in Minnesota. I love what Greenway brings to the table. We give up the 9th OA for a top 6 winger and lose the Eriksson contract. Win-Win for all involved?? I think Larsson would be the perfect d partner for Hughes and if we could get him for under 5, we absolutley need to explore this option. Im not 100% sold on Hamonic but not sure what other options are out there. Normally Id try to clarify further but its 3am and i just cant be bothered to do so.
  11. Why not Trade Miller, Schmidt, 1st in 2021, Woo for Seth Jones, Boone Jenner We get our 3c and 1d Sign Nugent Hopkins 6m x 5 Resign Edler 3m x 1 Resign Hamonic 2m x 2 Myers to Seattle in ED Roussell BUYOUT Erkisson (Retire hopefully) Podkolzin Pettersson Boeser Nugent-Hopkins Horvat Hoglander Pearson Jenner Motte Highmore Beagle Lockwood Hughes Jones Edler Rathbone Juolevi Hamonic
  12. Cheaper options for 3rd line? Less than 2.55m? Other than Gaudette, who?
  13. Talbot got 3.6 and is half the goalie Holtby is on a good day.
  14. Agreed. It’s actually much worse. Boeser is what most teams want thier 1st round picks to turn into.
  15. Some have him included as a sweetener to dump Eriksson. I would love to keep both him and Markstrom but we can only protect 1. After the Schneider for a top 10 pick and how it has played out, Demko likely only fetches a 2nd rounder. I don’t think we can land OEL without a top prospect (at least I think he’s still a prospect) like Demko. Smaller pieces and bad contracts aren’t going to get it done. Have to give to get to improve this team and OEL vastly improves this team on the backend. Arizona doesn’t have to trade OEL. I also haven’t read that he has demanded a trade. The only leverage we have is that Vancouver is one of two destinations he is willing to go to.
  16. OEL for Sutter Virtanen Juolevi or Rathbone or Woo Demko Eriksson Kuemper may be on the move and this could help push them to make the deal and she’s his salary. Demko can be thier future starter. Virtanen likely slots into thier 2nd line whilst Sutter takes over 3rd line Center duties which they seem to have a need for. Juolevi or Rathbone potentially gives them a top 4 damn. Eriksson gets them to the cap floor without having to pay real dollars which seems to the the real reason they are trying to move OEL out. We could then sign Markstrom, Toffoli and Tanev.
  17. Do we have the assets to acquire either to play along side Horvat? Discuss
  18. What I hope the Canucks Roster will look like in 2022-2023 (The year we win the CUP) Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Miller Horvat Podkolzin Toffoli Gaudette Anderson (CLB) Motte Haula MacEwan Lind Hughes Pietrangelo Juolevi Myers Rathbone Rafferty Woo Demko DiPietro
  19. Re-Sign Markstrom 4 years 22million prior to the draft Re-Sign Virtanen to 1 year 2.5million show me contract Re-Sign Leivo 3 year/6.6million Trade Demko and additional piece for 1st round pick (20-30OA) at the draft Mutual termination of Louis Eriksson's contract after bonus is paid. Trade Stetcher, Goldobin, Baertschi, Sutter, to whoever for whatever preferably 1 for 1 role players and/or picks Let Tanev walk (could trade Tanev for Barrie at the deadline) Sign JG Pageau 4 years/16million Sign Thomas Greiss 2 years/4.5 million Sign Barrie 6 years/45million Sign depth defenseman I firmly believe that Hoglander lands a spot on the big club right out of training camp. Miller Pettersson Virtanen Pearson Horvat Boeser Hoglander Pageau Gaudette Roussel Beagle Leivo Edler Barrie Hughes Myers Juolevi Rafferty/Trymakin Benn Faantenberg Markstrom Greiss DiPietro
  20. Oh man if we could get Lindholm in a Canucks Jersey..but barring an overpayment the Ducks never even consider it.
