  1. I think the Canucks lose this one today. Not sure why, just have a feeling. The tankers will be happy with the outcome tonight...I think
  2. What if we had drafted Patrick Nolan or Nico Hischier that year because we were last or dead last, etc. Think Jim Benning had the foresight to reach for Makar or Pettersson that year with Nolan and Hischier the clear cut favorites with the 1st or 2nd OA? As I said, its all a crapshoot. Almost every year that we have drafted in the top 10, we have lost out on amazing talent by dropping in the draft. However, if we hadnt dropped or had drafted top 3 in any of those drafts, Petey and Hughes likely wouldnt be here. Finishing in the bottom 10 still gives us a chance at a top 3. Maybe this is finally the year. If not, move on and draft where you draft. We will still get a great player in the top 10-12 and we will continue to build around our core.
  3. I would have to disagree with you here. This years improvement is markedly different and distinguishable from last year. You can save this for next year if you would like but I am confident we will comfortably be in the playoffs next season. The off season will be used to shed cap and only improve the team further. Also, no chance we ever finish with the worst record or even bottom 5 of the league with Demko, Hughes, Kuzmenko, Miller and Pettersson. A top 5 pick at the beginning of this season shouldve been a pipe dream. This team is no where near as bad as the bottom 5 of the league (CHI, ARI, ANA, CLB, SJ). How do we out tank these teams? Stop playing Petey who is trying to set himself up for a pay day? Rest Demko who has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove after missing most of the season? Ask our AHL callups to take it easier whilst they play for a spot on next years team? I really dont understand how anyone/any fan can expect the players/coaching staff to lose intentionally or give themselves the worst chance possible at losing these games. It makes as little sense as the team going on a winning streak and "winning pointless games" (theoretically, of course!)
  4. The one where 2nd last Edmonton got 4th and two teams above the Canucks - CLB (4th from the bottom) and WPG (6th from the bottom) ended up picking higher than both Edmonton and Vancouver? Maybe if the Canucks won a few more games they couldve got 2nd/3rd OA. Finishing with the worst record possible doesn’t guarantee jack sh*t
  5. Why would we possibly entertain the idea of moving Miller? Counterproductive to a retool dont you think?
  6. Operating word in all this is “could have”. Thank you for pointing out that no matter where you finish, 32nd or 21st, its merely a chance. Just look at how many times during those abysmal years we dropped in the draft and teams like NJ or Detroit jumped huge. CV Lol you expect teams out of the playoffs to lose every single game? Puck luck, opposing team plays horribly, injuries, etc. Both years Im certain Canucks were below .500 hockey post all-star.
  7. Name 1 other year besides these last two please where theyve won meaningless games in the latter half of the season once they were out of playoff contention
  8. My friend, every post game its the same sentiment. However, you're not entirely wrong - it sucks that we couldve been bottom 5 but the way I see it is if the coaching change had been made at the beginning of the year and played how the team is currently playing we would be in a playoff race. This years winning is very different than previous years. This isnt an emotional bump. We have improved in almost every single facet of the game since Tocchet took over (some areas we are amongst the best). There wasnt a chance in hell we were drafting Bedard this year simply because were just not that bad. We were just lacking structure and system. Whilst this team is not a perennial l contender we’re about 3-4 pieces away (2 top 4 defenseman, 3C and a top 3/6 winger). Weve added some prospects in Raty and Kravtsov. We have our 1st this year and multiple later round picks. We added a top 4 in Hronek who hasnt even suited. Silovs seems to be making great strides. Hoglander, McDonough, Johansson, Klimovich are still marinating in the A. If we are able to sign Livingstone and draft Reinbacher (some say he may be NHL ready) we may make great strides next year. This management group had thier work cutout for them and it was going to get worse before it got better. They never once mentioned a rebuild. They admit major surgery was required but at least give them a full season to see what happens. If OEL returns to OEL form from a few years ago, how far are we from actually contending? Kuzmenko Pettersson Mikhayev Beauvillier Miller Boeser Kravtsov Raty Podkolzin McDo Aman Joshua Hughes ???? OEL Hronek TRADE CHIPS Hoglander Garland Myers
  9. 8-8-2 and 18 points. One day at a time. Current standings are below. We just need everyone around us to win. I predict we fall right in the middle here with STL and PHI moving ahead of us and ARI and MTL staying behind us. We end up with with 7th pick at the end of the year. Decent shot at Michkov (i think he falls given his contract status), Benson, Smith or Cristall, Dvorsky, Reinbacher, or Moore. I am more concerned with us recouping our 2nd somehow and adding more 2nd/3rd picks. Maybe helps us trade up to 4-5th and grab our guy whoever he may be. Possibility of us trading down as well for an additional 2nd/3rd. STL 61 VAN 59 PHI 59 MTL 58 ARI 56
  10. There is also a Canuck fan out there who has been a fan his entire life and dreams of the Canuck winning a Stanley Cup for the first time and im sure he would probably like the Canucks to lose as much as possible. He is also in this years draft. We may not get him this year but im willing to bet this kid will end up in Vancouver eventually and will help Petey, Hughes, Demko, Kuzmenko, Miller, and Hronek to the promise land. We should change #tankforbedard to #signbedard
  11. Would it make everyone feel better next year if they win a bunch of games in the beginning and are in the top 12 (drafting between 18-32) and then lose a bunch of games at the end so we can be happy about improving our draft odds?
  12. We were never competing for the bottom 4. We simply arent as bad as Columbus, Anaheim, Chicago and Arizona. The goal was to pick between 5-7th which we still have a shot at although its unlikely given we have Demko back and our top players are playing like top players (Petey, Hughes, Miller, Kuz). The draft much like every year is unpredictable. Smith/Benson/Michkov could all fall with some teams going off the board or reaching (Yzerman with Seider/Arizona with Hayton). We still have lottery odds and could pray for a miracle but there is a lot of talent in the top 10 where the Canucks will most likely pick. Bedard has been a long a shot and that will not change. I am hopeful that we can get Michkov (contract status might push him down a la Podkolzin), Benson, Cristall or Smith. However, if we are able to sign Livingstone we could be open to the idea of drafting a LHD like Simashev. Reinbacher and Sandin-Pellika who are likely still on the board when we pick. We arent in need of a 1/2c as those spots are taken by Miller/Petey. If we could get Benson/Smith to plug up the 3c, great! If not, 3 defenseman are available in the top 15 for us to draft. I dont think we are going BPA this year outside the top 6-7 in any case. Ideally I would be looking to draft a defenseman (Simashev, Reinbacker, Sandin-Pellika), one that is closer to NHL ready of course. Next year weed out the bad contracts, look for a defensive faceoff guy for the 3c and another gritty winger to add the 4th line to compliment Joshua and Aman. Hope that Hog, Pods, and Krav step up and fill roles and we arent looking to shabby. This whole thing can play out in so many different ways.
  13. Why does everyone want to get rid of Boeser? I understand his cap hit isnt the greatest and hes likely over paid by about a million. However, he's a completely different player now then he was at the beginning of the year and has 11 points in his last 12 games whilst playing a game with some pace and a 200 ft game since Tocchet took over. If I am moving Boeser, it would be at the next trade deadline to give him sometime next year to see if he bounces back. If he bounces back, I wouldnt be looking to trade him. If he doesnt, retain and move him out for the cap savings alone. I would be looking to move the following ahead of Boeser to fix our cap. Garland Beauvillier Pearson Myers OEL If we are lucky enough to sign someone like Graves and Livingstone and move out the above, our lineup would like the following: Kuzmneko Petey Mikhayev Hoglander Miller Boeser Kravstov Raty Podkolzin Dries Aman Joshua Hughes Livingstone Graves Hronek Demko Silovs Petey 8 years/90m = 11.25 Hronek 8 years/ 50m = 6.25m
  14. Pull crap? Theyre playing the game they get paid to play and paid to win. Instead of trying to convince us fans, go and try to convince Demko, Hughes, Miller, Kuz, and Petey. Im sure they're in love with the idea of losing for a 17-18 yr old saviour.
  15. The 2 biggest reasons we are where we are is our defense and penalty kill. We’ve already improved our defense with Hronek and our penalty kill is/has improved since Tocchet took over. Lots of skill at the top of the lineup and obivously Hughes and Demko in the back. It wouldnt be completely outrageous to claim that next year with the hopeful editions of Livingstone and a top 6/7 pick that we could be a playoff team. The cap seems to be our only obstacle.
  16. Was waiting for the first person to sh*t on the team! Congratulation!
  17. Retain enough to turn that pick into a 1st. Obviously wed need get rid of a few others first
  18. Switch Hronek and Livingstone Hughes Livingstone OEL Hronek
  19. Would rather trade Garland over Hoglander. Garland for Korczak + 3rd
  20. I would do Raty, Rathbone, and, a 1st in 2025 for Hanifin. I think Calgary does a teardown and rebuild after next season and move all of Tanev, Hanifin, Weegar, Huberdeau, Marsktrom and cut bait with most of their middle 6. Raty, Rathbone and a 1st in 2025 gives them a top c prospect, a defense prospect and 1st in 2025. We likely draft our 3c this year with hopefully a top 5/6 draft pick that is ready to play come 2025. I would not move Hoglander at all until I know for certain what we have in him. He is only going to get better in the AHL with all those minutes and its already beginning to show. I think we see a resurgent Boeser next season and no one on this team will want to move him next year. C - Pettersson, Miller, Will Smith, Aman W - Mikhayev, Kuzmenko, Boeser, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Kravtsov, Joshua D - Hughes, Hronek, Hanifin, Livingstone (hopefully signed April 1st) G - Demko, Silovs
  21. Trade Chips: Beauvillier - if he continues at this pace hes worth a 1st at the deadline with retention Garland - depends on performance next year but maybe he can up his value to a 1st - right now I see it as a 2nd/3rd Pearson - LTIR for now but maybe a 4/5th if he can play again OEL - buyout next summer Myers - maybe a 2nd at deadline next year Boeser - kinda wanna keep him Miller - not going anywhere in my opinion Best case scenario we move all of them and receive a 1st, 1st, 4th, 2nd in 2024
  22. I have a feeling he doesn't want to move. Just that gut feeling he wants to stay here with Demko, Hughes, and Petey. If he plays every game like he did last night, I would welcome him with open arms and trade Garland and Pearson in his place. Need more than Petey and Hughes as vets moving forward unless we're following the Oilers method of building. If we can find a 3c PK'er and another top 4 defenseman RHD I think there will be much improvement next year. We just need to find homes for OEL, Myers (likely to be traded at deadline next year), Garland, Pearson, and possibly Beauvillier by trade deadline next season. Mikhayev Pettersson Kuzmenko (1) Hoglander Miller Boeser (2a) Kravtsov ????? Podkolzin (2b) Hughes Livingstone ??? Hronek Demko Silovs
  23. damn some of y'all complain a lot. Resigning Horvat - "cant believe we signed Miller over Horvat - oh wow 8.5m for Horvat, hes not worth that hahah...but lets trade Miller too just cuz" We trade Horvat - "when are we going to address the defense, when are we going to find our RHD, this management sucks" We trade Schenn - "only a 3rd???? wtf GMPA couldnt get us a 2nd pick for a 6/7th defenseman" We sign Hronek - "why are we trading picks for a right shot RHD under the age of 25 who fits our core but needs a raise...this is so stupid, im done with this team" Chychrun gets traded - "we shouldve spent more picks to get another LHD that we dont need, what are we doing? Hronek deal looks worse now" Lets trade Boeser a 60 point top 6 winger with 25-50% retention - "we'll take a 2nd for him so why isnt GMPA pulling the trigger" WHEN Boeser gets traded - " I am cancelling my season tickets, we ONLY got a 2nd, Jim Benning all over again" Trade a pick - " we coudlve drafted player x who would be uber helpful for us in 4 years, dumb management team" Trade a player - "did you see what player Y got, we def couldve gotten more but Allvin did xyz and messed it all up"
  24. Petersson Kuzmenko Podkolzin Smith - hopefully with our 1st Hughes Hronek Livingstone - hopefully signed April 1 Demko Silovs Not a bad core considering we still have trade chips in Miller, Garland, Boeser, Pearson, Myers, Beauvillier, OEL, We also have Hoglander, Kravtsov, Bloom, Klimovich, McDonough, Lekaremakki, Karlsson. Not the greatest but if Hogs/Kravtsov can become legit top 6/middle 6 guys and 1 of the others develop into a regular NHL’er were not entirely sunk. Brighter side of things I guess.
