  1. Florida has $137k in cap space, so can't see how they could make Boeser work
  2. Agreed. We have waaaay too many wingers. I reckon you want 6 out of 13 forwards on your roster that can play center (to cover for injuries). That leaves 7 spots for guys that only play wing. I count 10 wingers in our system, that cannot cover center: Boeser, Garland, Kuzmenko, Beauvillier, Mikheyev, Pearson, Podkolzin, Kravtsov, Hoglander, Joshua. Need to get rid of some.
  3. The number of games that Chychrun misses thru injury is a major red flag for me. I wanted a rebuild, so I didn't want either Chcyh or Hronek. But we are not rebuilding. So with that in mind, I like Hronek as a player (more the Chychrun) and I think he will be a good fit for the long term in VAN.
  4. Nice one Jan. I hope these are the kind of moves that we will make! I do wonder if PIT would make the Boeser + Rathbone for Pettersson deal that you propose. Pettersson has had an excellent season and has made a permanent move into the top 4 in PIT. He is finally performing to his contract and they have him signed for 2 more years (exactly the same length of Sid's contract and so those 2 years define their window). So with Dumoulin's contract expiring, I think they rather hold onto Pettersson than adding another winger. Also with Granlund signed for the next 2 seasons, I don't know if they feel they need another top 6 winger when a top 4 LD fills a bigger need for them. I know Zucker is expiring this season, but with a top 6 of: Sid, Geno, Guentzel, Rakell, Rust, Granlund, I think they are pretty sorted.
  5. Agreed. They may add someone like a Domi, but nothing really big. CAR model is to constantly be in the playoffs. So that means, don't spend futures or too much cap for any one year. It also means they will be unlikely to win the Cup without making a serious push.
  6. While I would love for you to be right, I don't think PIT makes that deal.
  7. Zucker has 17 goals this season, compared to Miller's 20 goals. Are PIT really going to give up a 1st for a marginal improvement?
  8. So Chychrun has been traded to the Sens. What is PIT going to do???
  9. If we only need to find a 3rd pairing Dman that can PK, then I think we can do that (e.g. Clifton, T Van Riemsdyk, Gudas, Soucy, Holl are all pending UFAs). But I am not overly comfortable with OEL or Bear on the second pairing (fine if we are tanking/rebuilding) but apparently, we are not!
  10. It is interesting looking at Hronek's stats from this season...his +/- is currently at +8... He was paired with Chiarot for 44% of the time at even strength. As a pairing they were -8 at ES. When paired with anyone else, Hronek (56% of his time at ES) was +18 at ES. This is a massive difference. It appears to me that Chiarot has been a complete disaster this season (he is currently at -23) and so he not only had a huge negative impact on Hronek's defensive numbers, but also negatively impacted everyone else he was paired with.
  11. Yes I suppose the good thing about getting him now is that we can see whether an H-H pairing has potential. That will help determine what we need to do in the off season to complete the D lineup
  12. Thanks for the heads up, but imo whether you are passing or carrying, you are still moving the puck. I remember when Hughes played with Tanev, they were excellent not just because Tanev was a good defender, but because Tanev was actually good at moving the puck (passing more than carrying). With a traditional stay at home Dman, Hughes has been having to do all the work and it is much easier for opposition teams to shut him (and hence his whole unit) down.
  13. Yeah I share your pain! I wanted a rebuild and my hope was the Horvat trade signalled the start of one...but NO we aren't getting a rebuild. PA/JR are going to focus on young players, not prospects. Only thing I'd add is that given we are not rebuilding, then Hronek is a good player and a good target imo
  14. Despite putting up points, Hronek is also a good defender. He is usually on the PK and his oiGA/60 this season is 5.5. This is better than Chris Tanev has achieved on the PK for the past 10 years, so it's not like this kid can't defend. In many ways, he may be an excellent pairing with Hughes as they can both move the puck very well. Much harder for opposition to defend, as they need to try and shut both guys down, instead of just focusing on QH.
  15. Hoping for... To PIT: Miller To VAN: 2023 1st, 2023 3rd (NJD), Hallander, McGinn
  16. You can still be traded when you are on IR or LTIR
  17. Agreed that this is bloody useful information! Just want to say that PIT and CAR are still options for a Miller trade... CAR can afford Miller's entire $5.25m cap hit. If McGinn clears waivers then we would need to take about $1.5m in cap hit back from PIT to make it work. If he's picked up off waivers then PIT will have cap space for Miller without any further clearing of cap.
  18. Yes weird. Suggests that a specific amount of Oilers cap space was absolutely critical to achieve. Currently they have $2.06m available, so will be interesting to see how they will use that. They still only have 6 Dmen on the roster, so likely further moves afoot.
  19. Must be 2 top prospects going to CHI right? Nope... Saarijarvi a 25 year old 3rd round pick from 2015, never signed to a professional contract Welinski a 29 year old 3rd round pick from 2011, has played 46 NHL games
  20. Guessing TOR might stand pat after adding O'Reilly, Acciari, Lafferty, McCabe, Gustafsson and Schenn. Moving Engvall probably more about clearing enough cap for Murray to return from LTIR before the playoffs.
  21. Sorry should have clarified. A 5th round pick is hardly worth it for the Canucks, when we potentially have some better plans for the cap space and retention slots. I can absolutely understand why ARI was part of this deal.
  22. Yes I know "you can only imagine"...that is what happens when you have a strong pre-formed opinion about something, with no real evidence to back it up. "He can only be worse now" and "he's lost all his developing years"...as if playing over 500 games in the KHL means you can't develop and get better as a player - ask Kuzmenko about that...
