[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return
BigTramFan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You can't have watched him play in Vancouver, because he was always fast and agile. That was actually his strength. A lot more than his fighting ability, which is more legend than reality. He also hit guys really f*cking hard and made quite a lot of hits. Why didn't he become a regular NHL player? Well, because he decided to move back to Russia. It certainly wasn't because the team didn't offer him a contract. And certainly not because he was too slow for the NHL. I think it's unlikely Tryamkin comes back to VAN. I think the management team here was not honourable and I think they did a really bad job at communicating with him which left a sour taste in his mouth, and if he chooses to return to the NHL it will probably be with another team. However, it wouldn't be "living in a fantasy world"...should he wish to return to VAN, I think the current management would be interested in seeing what he can bring and we have some open spots next season. When I look at how well JR and PA have done bringing someone like Kuz to North America and the growing group of Russians on the team and coaching staff, I think they could make it work. The bigger question is - has NT missed too much time in the NHL to come back and be effective? The only way for anyone to know is for him to try. I mean Kuz is 27 years old and never played an NHL game in his life before this season. Playing for many years in the KHL has not been a bad thing for him and the transition was seamless. Dmen are different, but they also hit their prime later, so it would be interesting to see if a 28 year old Tryamkin resume an NHL career successfully now. I'd say the ball is in his court. -

Just so you are aware, Tryamkin had a European assignment clause in his contract with the Canucks. This was agreed by NT and JB, and it means that if the Canucks wanted to send NT to the minors to ride the bus and earn $70k in salary, then he had the option of playing in Europe instead. You can hardly blame Tryamkin for refusing to go the minors when he had agreed a contract with JB to specifically avoid playing in the minors. The blame falls on JB for putting the Euro clause into the contract. It is akin to saying that a player is a bad person for not waiving a NMC in their contract. If you don't want to honour the contract, don't put stupid clauses in it! -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

You said "he had no foot speed then". Simply untrue. You also said he's now "old and slow". The guy is only 28 years old. How much have you watched him lately to judge his foot speed? Nah didn't think so... -

[Report] Seravelli: “Some smoke around Kerfoot and Vancouver”
BigTramFan replied to Odd.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Agreed. Much rather target someone like Compher, who is on the same $ now and also a pending UFA. He has more size, better FO%, more points, and is the kind of right handed shutdown style 3C that this team could really use. -

(Proposal)Canucks need a new capologist

A capologist can't help you when you overpay for under-performing players (Myers, OEL, Boeser, Garland = $25m right there) -
[Waivers] Kasperi Kapanen, Kevin Gravel
BigTramFan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Players who are claimed off waivers must be offered to the other teams that placed an original claim before that player can be traded. For example, if a player is placed on waivers and three teams place a claim on him. The team lowest in the standards gets first dibs. -
Boeser to MIN doesn't make sense for MIN, because they don't have any cap space to add next season. They likely want to move Greenway without retention (or for good roster players on near league minimum contracts). So unless we retained 50% on Boeser ($3.3m) and took back Greenway ($3m)...then it could work for MIN. But do we really want to be effectively paying Greenway $6.3m?
-
As long as it doesn't hamper our ability to retain on contracts we might want to move out (max of 3 retained salary contracts and we already have 1); or use up enough cap space to limit our ability to sign NCAA/European players right towards the end of the season, then YES let's get a couple of extra 4th rounders.
-
That would be good, but just remember we can only retain on 3 contracts maximum (so 2 more along with Horvat's one). The typical return on retaining 25% salary on an in/out rental contract (like Orlov or O'Reilly) is a 4th or 5th round pick - so not amazing. Think we can do a lot better by taking on whole player contracts that contenders want to move out (maybe for a 2nd or 3rd round pick). There's no limit on those as long as you have the cap space. But unfortunately not many contenders have those kind of contracts...

This is definitely the off season to sign some UFA shut down RHD. The 2024 off season has very few available. But main problem is that I don't think any of the 20 guys listed are both top pairing caliber AND considered shutdown Dmen right now. I like Cal Foote as a RD that is "good enough to step in right now" with potential to be "that guy" that can mesh well with Hughes in the future. Can we trade for him or offer sheet? Graves (LD/RD) is one that we could target as UFA as either a potential Hughes partner or playing second pairing. Likely cost around $5m AAV If we can get Livingstone - it's a no brainer. Get him. And I would like to resign Schenn too. So if we have Foote, Schenn, Livingstone as RD, Graves as LD, we have one more spot on the right side. I would lean towards resigning Bear. He has some more potential upside to come and could pair well with Graves. D corps would still be a work in progress (in terms of some players maturing into their roles), but something like this: Hughes Foote Graves Bear OEL Schenn (Stillman Livingstone) If it turns out OEL is injured and he comes back healthy and plays much better next season, then alternatively might be able to run with: Hughes Graves OEL Foote Schenn Bear (Stillman Livingstone)
