  1. But CAL won't do that, as has been pointed out again and again...CAL don't have the cap space for Boeser next season. They have 19 players contracted next season and only 1.3m in cap space. That is with Lucic's contract expiring, so they cannot afford to take on cap beyond this season. Also, why does Lucic waive his NMC to come to VAN when this might be his last season?
  2. VGK also has two 3rd round picks in 2023. If they spend their 1st and 2 x 3rds getting P Kane and a decent goalie, then I definitely think their roster has a shot. And I think they are looking pretty good for the next 2 seasons (assuming Lehner and Stone are back and healthy). From 2025 onwards they will struggle as their core ages out and they have no young talent coming through. My guess is then they will do a scorched earth rebuild.
  3. Agree VGK have a few holes, namely 1RW and G. But they are not cap strapped, because Stone's $9.5m hasn't even been moved to LTIR yet. Gotta think they are in on P Kane and maybe one of Lankinen, Ingram, Korpisalo or Greiss
  4. I remain unconvinced on that one
  5. Yeah good thinking @Mustard Tiger . You could add Brossoit from VGK to that list. Cap hit of $2.3 and never played a game for the big club this season.
  6. I can't think of one. Most contenders have efficient contracts. The only examples I can think of are Lucic and Hornqvist. Lucic has a full NMC. Hornqvist is on LTIR so FLA won't feel the need to move him any more. I think it's more likely we use our 2 salary retention slots to take on cap where a rental is going to a contender EDIT: In another thread someone just mentioned goalies. Wasn;t thinking about that. Both Khudobin and Brossoit would be good targets
  7. Usually it is the destination team that is paying the price. Historically each of those retentions would be worth about a 4th round pick. So I'd say you might get a 2023 3rd round pick from VGK given the cap strapped nature of the league currently. And since COL has traded all their picks, maybe you get an equivalent prospect.
  8. Or would Lucic feel that he might like to have a shot at the Cup in what might be the final season of his career...I reckon you could answer this one yourself...
  9. There are not many expiring UFAs without trade protection that contenders are looking to dump, can you think of any?
  10. Haha love the last statement. My understanding is that a maximum of 2 teams can retain salary on a single contract, and the maximum retention each time is 50% on the remainder of the contract. So lowest % that a rental can get to is 25% (i.e. original team retains 50% of full contract....intermediate team retains 50% of the 50% contract....leaving 25% to be taken on by the destination team)
  11. Yes and don't see the need to involve VAN in that trade, as SJS can retain and take back some salary from NJD to make it work without a 3rd party
  12. We could be retaining on 2 deals: P Kane, CHI retains 50%, we retain 25%, Kane to VGK at 25% J Toews, CHI retains 50%, we retain 25%, Toews to COL at 25% Total cap hit for VAN = $5.25m What's it worth to us?
  13. We are already retaining on the Horvat trade, so we have 2 more contracts maximum that we can retain salary on. Better be worth our while!
  14. Example please? I am guessing you mean taking on a portion of cap for rentals to contenders? E.g. 50% of P Kane traded to VGK...
  15. It opens up the potential for VAN to do that. Please do not be longer than this season!
  16. We already had $5m in cap space so don't think we'd need to create another $3.25m if we are moving Myers with his $6m cap hit. Is Matthews the cap dump?
  17. That is because Capfriendly doesn't count the guys currently on IR/LTIR as part of the roster size for next season, but it does count their salary as part of the cap hit for next season. So essentially we have the 17 current roster players, plus Mikheyev, Demko, Pearson and Poolman under contract. This makes 21 players signed with $2.9m in cap space. Assuming Pearson and Poolman remain injured on LTIR then we will be able to spend $5.75m above the cap limit, and the number of active players drops from 21 to 19. Hence we likely have 19 players with $8.65m in cap space to use.
  18. TBL also have Seabrook's LTIR relief, so close to $10m in cap space to use. They will load up on a bunch of cheap players that want to have a shot at a cup. Think they will be fine. VAN is also fine next season. According to Capfriendly we have $3m in cap space with 21 players on the roster. But then Pearson and Poolman seem likely to be on LTIR, opening up another $5.75m of LTIR. Going to be interesting to see what COL and CAL do. CAL in particular has a bunch of guys with trade protection, esp NMC. Not going to be easy or painless for them!
