[Proposal] Let's Just Face Reality
BigTramFan replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Patches is going onto LTIR for the rest of this season so we don't need to take back Kotkaniemi to make the trade work. CAR has $30m in cap space next season so could sign Horvat long term as their 2C, resign 34 year old Staal on a cheaper short term contract, and still keep KK as their future 3C. TDL trade becomes... To CAR: Horvat (extension in place) To VAN: Morrow + 2023 1st If CAR want 50% salary retained on Horvat (so they have space to add depth on their blueline) then add a 2024 2nd round pick. -
Maybe JR's talk about "if we can't trade, we will need to buy out" and the leaked information about Tocchet being a potential new coach are just JR's sneaky way of getting OEL to waive his NMC...

Those would be great but BOS and TBL don't have their 2023 2nd round picks anymore. -

BigTramFan replied to Nuxfanabroad's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
NYR don't have the cap space next season! If they signed Bo for say $7.5m they would only have $8.5m cap space to sign 8 players. Their RFAs like Laf, Chytil and K Miller are due for pay rises. If they wanted to move any significant cap out, they can't because 6 out of their 8 highest paid payers have NMC or NTC (the 2 without trade protection are Fox and Shesterkin). -
If a team is at the cap limit and they trade a $4m player for Pearson + Boeser. Then they are taking on $9.9m and sending out $4m. Their total cap hit goes up by $5.4m so they are now $5.4m over the cap limit. Due to Pearson’s LTIR they can be $3.25m over, so they are now not cap compliant. So no, Pearson being on LTIR would not help a team take on Boesers contract.

[Proposal] Trade Deadline + Draft
BigTramFan replied to Franz Liszt's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I don't understand the continual trade proposals sending Boeser to MIN for Dumba. MIN mgmt have been reported as saying they are not interested in Boeser on their team. I know Boeser is from MIN, but they don't want him. They also can't afford him. They have $16m in cap space next season and will need to sign another 9 players (including a replacement top 4 RD for Dumba, a significant raise for Boldy, and a raise/replacement for Freddy Gaudreau). -
In my opinion, both those trades are completely unrealistic returns. You won't get the equivalent to two 1st round picks, plus two 2nd round picks, for Horvat as a rental. Not to mention, neither the Caps nor the Canes can afford to take on Horvat without sending cap back our way. For Horvat I think you might get a 2023 1st round pick + an "A" prospect + a roster player (returning cap). You might get another lesser asset thrown in for 50% salary retention. Regarding the proposed Miller trade. I don't think NYR would do Schneider for Miller 1-for-1. Let alone adding Kaako to the deal. Most importantly NYR cannot afford Miller's new contract next season. The proposed trade would give them only $14.7m in cap space and needing to sign another 11 players (including RFAs like K Miller, Chytil, Laf who will need significant raises).

I wouldn't defend anyone on this team right now, but +/- is not a good stat. And OEL doesn't deserve to be singled out on that. +/- does not factor in total games or minutes played in those games. Nor does it factor in quality of opposition. It does focus more on even strength (which is a good thing imo) but a better stat for how well a player performs is even strength oiGF/60 and oiGA/60. And the difference between how many goals for and against per 60 minutes at ES. This season the Canucks team average ES oiGF/60 = 2.5 and our average ES oiGA/60 = 3.2. Compared to the team average OEL is not too bad oiGF/60 = 2.8 and oiGA/60 = 3.5. Slighty more GF and GA/60 but the difference of -0.7 goals/60 is right at the team average. Who are the worst on this team at ES? (ignoring those that have played less than 10 games), here they are: Player oiGF/60 oiGA/60 Goal difference/60 Pearson 2.2 5.2 -3.0 Dries 2.4 4.5 -2.1 Burroughs 0.9 3.1 -2.2 Stillman 2.8 4.3 -1.5 Boeser 3.8 5.2 -1.4 Studnicka 1.2 2.7 -1.5 Joshua 1.7 3.1 -1.4 Aman 1.2 2.5 -1.3 So interestingly OEL is nowhere near the worst on this team at even strength! Neither is Miller (CDC's current whipping boy), Myers and Hughes (who many say can't defend): Player oiGF/60 oiGA/60 Goal difference/60 Miller 2.4 3.3 -0.9 Myers 3.6 3.1 +0.5 Hughes 3.4 3.1 +0.3

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
BigTramFan replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nah but stating this, is not actually rumor that they are interested in Miller: "...as for a trade before the March 3 trade deadline, the Pittsburgh Penguins have cap space next season and beyond to take on Miller's contract.” It isn't even speculation that they want to take on Miller. They are two completely independent things. By this measure of a "rumor" I could also say there's a rumor that Arizona, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Anaheim & Buffalo are interested in taking on Miller, just because they all have cap space. So that's now 10 teams that are keen to take on Miller! Yay. It's just clickbait. Not to mention NYR can't even afford Miller next season anyway, so I'm not sure how he thinks they should be part of the "rumor". Maybe because they were "linked" to Miller last season... -
[discussion] promoting an interim head coach
BigTramFan replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I would prefer that we sell at the TDL and tank the rest of this season. Don’t want a new coach until next season! -

BigTramFan replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is the only thing that the article says about teams being interested in Miller: “As for a trade before the March 3 trade deadline, the Pittsburgh Penguins have cap space next season and beyond to take on Miller's contract. He's also been linked to the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and New Jersey Devils.” i don’t think this counts as a rumour -
[Speculation] Severson on the Move?
BigTramFan replied to AngryElf's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If CAR was up for that deal, I would take that. I think it would signal a retool/mini-rebuild around a core of Petey, Hughes, Demko. In which case it would also be worth trading Kuzmenko. Should be able to get equivalent to a 1st round pick back for him. If we could find a taker for Miller, then also trade him. Seems unlikely. Essentially tank for the highest possible pick in 2023 draft, plus the extra picks from trades brings in fresh young talent. Next season trade Pearson and Myers as rentals at the TDL. Young players coming up: Hogs, Podz, Morrow, Klim, Lekkermaki, Rathbone, McDonough, Petey-D...plus a few 1st rounders from the 2023 draft -
Out with the old, in with the New (Proposals)
BigTramFan replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Hi Jan. CHI are rebuilding. They will be seeking picks in return for Murphy, not trading him along with a 2nd. And especially not for Boeser who is no use while they are tanking, plus Rathbone and McDonough are not top prospects so would not move the needle for CHI in my opinion. Also I think NJD will either keep Severson for their playoff run or trade him for futures. Can’t see them being interested in Myers 1-for-1 and they certainly won’t be throwing in a 2nd round pick. The other trade ideas are good. But then not sure the cap in/out stacks up without the Boeser and Myers trades. Cheers! -
[proposal] Hoglander + Schenn for Cal Foote
BigTramFan replied to NHL97OneTimer's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Yes that is the issue. But I don't think we have too much to lose by trading a low pick for Foote and seeing how he goes. Look at how well Bear has turned out and he could hardly make the Hurricanes lineup... -
[proposal] Hoglander + Schenn for Cal Foote
BigTramFan replied to NHL97OneTimer's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Quite a few TBL fans are suggesting VAN could get Cal Foote for around a 2023 4th round pick right now. That would be worth the gamble. There is absolutely no way we should be adding Hoglander or Schenn to a deal for Foote. If we trade Schenn we do it for a 2023 2nd round pick in return. We should keep Hogs. -

[Proposals] Boeser, Myers and Pearson traded
BigTramFan replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
My proposal is to move Myers in the off season once his signing bonus is paid. Arizona do not appear to be anywhere near spending to the cap limit. Not this season and not next season. So LTIR will not be used no matter what they do. It would be either Little's $5.29m cap hit or Myers' $6m cap hit sitting on their roster. Here are the 2 scenarios for Arizona: 1. Keep Little and his insured contract (no real cost). Pay a league minimum RD $750k to fill a spot on their blueline next season. Little + the RD will have a total combined cap hit of $6.04m on their roster. ARI will pay $750k in actual salary costs. 2. Trade Little for Myers + a 4th. Myers will actually play as a RD on your roster, so no need for that league minimum RD. Total cap hit is $6.0m and actual salary cost is $1m. Basically it's a lower cap hit overall, just $250k more in salary cost, and Arizona get a 4th round pick out of it. Essentially they get back the 4th round pick they spent to acquire Little + Smith. Arizona is cheap but they're not dumb. -
[Proposals] Boeser, Myers and Pearson traded
BigTramFan replied to BigTramFan's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Guess what Arizona got in return for taking on 2 years of Bryan Little at a cap hit of $5.29m in 2022? Must have been a 1st round pick right? No, they got AHL player Nathan Smith, plus they PAID a 4th round pick for Little + Smith... -
