  1. You seem angry. Did you not get the Xmas present that you asked Santa for?
  2. Hmm yeah I don't have an issue with retaining on Pearson for 1 year to move him. We have too many wingers already - not just Bennings doing btw. The other option is to keep Pearson on the roster and not resign Kuzmenko. That way we have no dead cap, but we lose a decent player...
  3. Weird cause I can't even remember the last time we retained salary on a trade...
  4. So you agree with the proposed moves but you want to sign Horvat to 7.6m, Kuz 4.9m, Bear 3.5m, Dermott 2.4m? Fine by me but I don't think that gets you Horvat or Kuz. And overall those moves cost another $1.35m above what I proposed, so it won't be cap compliant. Where do you propose to find a defensive minded #2RD under 27 years old? (can you name even one that might be available?)
  5. Fair enough, I'll show myself out of the Canuck's armchair GM office right now You see it as negative. I see moving half of Pearson's cap space in his final year as a way to get a modest return and also to remain cap compliant while resigning Bo, Kuz and a top 4 RD in free agency.
  6. Firstly there are 32 teams in the NHL so there are still opportunities to trade. Secondly if you read the OP you would realise 2 of these 3 moves are proposed for the off season when teams will have more cap space. Thirdly, these are trades that were suggested by fans of the teams I have proposed we trade with, so not some homer trades that I made up. We are not offloading 15m in salary. Myers will only be owed 1m and Pearson 2.75m. BUF has $17m in cap space this season. ARI has $40m in projected cap space next season, WPG has $15m.
  7. Mittelstadt has been used as a winger in BUF lately (with Jost as their 3C), so I think BUF fans are thinking about upgrading to an offensive winger who may do better in a new setting.
  8. As mentioned, he would be traded in the off season. 1 year of $1.6m retention is hardly "long term" nor is it sabotage.
  9. Personally I'd prefer a rebuild but can't see FA agreeing to that. So what else can we do? Depending on who you believe all these 3 guys have little to no to negative value... However, I have seen a few trades proposed on Capfriendly from other teams' fans for these players and makes me wonder if these trades would be good moves to make before the TDL (Boeser) and in the off season (Myers and Pearson): To BUF: Boeser To VAN: Mittelstadt Mittelstadt just turned 24 years old. Is a center, has been averaging 16 mins a game and can play both PP and PK. Seems like a decent candidate for future 3C. Most importantly this trade moves Boeser's full cap hit without retention. To ARI: Myers + 2023 4th round pick To VAN: Little Trade made after Myers' $5m signing bonus is paid. Little will have 1 year left at $5.2m but is on LTIR and contract is fully insured so VAN can bury him on LTIR. Arizona is running such a cheap roster that Little is not even on LTIR there, so not much difference for ARI between Little's cap hit and Myers' cap hit. Arizona gets a top 4 RD in Myers for only $1m in salary cost plus a 4th round pick. To WPG: Pearson (50% retained) To VAN: 5th round pick Trade made in off season. WPG get a cheap ($1.625m) middle 6 winger. VAN signs Horvat (8m), Kuzmenko (6m), Severson (6m), Bear (2.75), Dermott (1.8), Schenn (1.0), Burroughs (0.8m)
  10. Flames won't have the cap space for Brock next season. Factoring in Lucic's contract expiring they only have $1.4m in cap space next season with 19 players signed.
  11. Hoping for 5 deals...basically a rebuild To WAS: Horvat (50% retained) To VAN: Protas + Iorio + 2023 1st round pick (+ Eller for cap purposes) To TOR: Kuzmenko + Schenn To VAN: Niemela + 2023 1st round pick (+ Engvall for cap purposes) To NYI: Miller To VAN: Raty (+ Bailey + Panik cap purposes) To NJD: Hughes To VAN: Nemec + Mercer + 2023 1st round pick (+ Johnsson for cap purposes) To COL: Eller (50% retained) + 2023 3rd round pick To VAN: 2023 1st round pick Gives us 5 x 1st round picks in 2023. Engvall, Johnsson, Panik are on expiring contracts. Let them walk. Depth chart next season becomes: C: Pettersson, Mercer, Raty, Aman, Studnicka LW: Mikheyev, Podkolzin, Garland, Protas, Joshua, Pearson* RW: Boeser*, Hoglander, Bailey, Lazar, Klimovich, Lekkerimaki LD: OEL, Dermott, Rathbone, Stillman RD: Nemec, Niemela, Iorio, Bear, Burroughs, Myers* G: Demko, Martin, Silovs * = retain salary and trade at TDL of their expiring year
  12. Hate to break it to you, but Brock has 2 more seasons on his contract after this one...
  13. I disagree about needing to retain salary on Miller. He has averaged 0.95 pts/game over the last 5 seasons (including this one) and is worth his new contract. There's just no point in having him on a rebuilding team as he will be declining when we are ready to compete. He would be a great fit on the NY Islanders and they need some offense. I would not retain a cent on him. But I would consider taking back some short term dead cap to make a deal happen. I can't see us trading OEL. He has a full NMC to start with. It wouldn't be worth adding the sweeteners that it would require to move him. In a rebuild, cap space should not be a concern, so you just let him play out the next 4 seasons and he is essentially out the door when we are ready to compete. Similar to Myers. If we can't get any assets back, then why trade him. May as well just let him play out his contract and walk. Don't spend ANY assets on moving players out.
  14. I agree. But they should try to move him. I think the NYI would be interested. Something like: To NYI: Miller To VAN: Bailey + a 2nd round pick Basically just to move Miller's contract, which has no place on a rebuilding team.
  15. If we are selling... I don't think Garland gets you a 1st (not even a late one). But we should trade him and take whatever we can get for him. Boeser has very little value currently due to his contract. I would hold onto him and hope that his value increases (he finds some form) and he may net some good returns at the TDL on his final contract year. We shouldn't trade Pettersson, Hughes or Demko (not that you suggested that). And I can't see any reason to trade Hogs and Podz. I think these players will have value at the upcoming TDL: Horvat Kuzmenko Schenn Miller ...yes even Miller will have value but it will be a difficult job to find a destination for him.
  16. Plenty of examples of what teams pay for a top notch player on an expiring contract at the TDL, i.e. a pure rental... Just at the last TDL, two I can think of: Giroux (50% retained) to FLA (along with a 5th round pick + some AHLers) netted PHI a 1st round pick + 3rd round pick + Owen Tippett Copp to NYR (along with a 6th round pick) netted WPG a 1st round pick + 2nd round pick + 5th round pick + Morgan Barron I would say Horvat in his current form should bring similar returns as a rental for a contender.
  17. Pulock has a full NTC. He will not agree to move to VAN.
  18. This team needs a full rebuild. Any trade of Horvat (and any other player of value) should return future assets like picks and prospects. Horvat should not be used to dump Myers, because if we do that we are just downgrading the return on Horvat. If we are rebuilding there will be the cap space to keep Myers until his contract expires, instead of using up assets to move him. PLD is a great player, but too much risk that he will skip off into the sunset. Picks and prospects.
  19. We don't need to trade Petey. If we can make your trade #4 (Boeser for a 3C), trade #5 (Garland for a pick) and trade #7 (Myers moved in the off season with only $1m of salary owing for his new club to pay him), then we have enough cap space to resign Horvat and Kuz and enough for a decent top 4 Dman (such as Zub).
  20. I'm not really sure what your point is. You seem to be making an argument for something that I agree with (namely that TBL get full value out of their contracts whereas VAN does not). However, my original point is that Petey (10m), Horvat (8m), Miller (8m) and Kuz (6m) are all quite feasible. Did you forget that Myers and Pearson will be gone before Petey is resigned? (as will Holtby & Virtanen's buyouts) Also very likely Boeser is gone by then too.
  21. In TBL next season they will have: Point 9.5 Kuch 9.5 Stamkos 8.5 Cirelli 6.25 Hedman 7.9 Sergachev 8.5 Cernak 5.2 Vas 9.5 I think the above numbers for VAN are feasible
  22. I don't disagree. Just feels like those guys are part of the solution. Gotta say that the return is very tempting. Wonder if BOS would consider taking OEL too? Maybe a Grzelcyk + Reilly swap for OEL with $1m retained.
  23. I dunno. We really have to give up the good old boys Bo and Luke?
  24. I like it for VAN. Not sure why we would retain $1m on Boeser for 2.5 seasons though.
