  1. If the league continues tending toward being a league of panzies who only hack and whack, then the pick is fine. If the pendulum swings the other way, and grit/toughness becomes the trend, then we just screwed ourselves.
  2. The goal is to win cups. Not presidents trophies.
  3. I was ready to turn the page on the pacifist swede era, quite frankly.
  4. I read one article that makes Mete sound similar offensively to Stecher. Apparently he doesn't have a hard point shot, but finds ways to get it through. I also see that Montreal has signed him to an ELC already. God help this message board if he plays meaningful games for Montreal in the near future, and starts contributing and putting up points.
  5. Good to hear. Junior stats always skew perspective.
  6. Can somebody tell me about Victor Mete? I don't get to watch much Knights games unless they're on Snet. Is he the cornerstone d-man on the team, or is Juolevi more heavily relied on? Do they play as a pair, or are they split up? Who does Hunter play as the #1 defense pairing? From what I've read and seen, Mete is more of a pure offensive defenseman, whereas Juolevi does it better at both ends. I just want to quell any concerns that we picked too high on Juolevi, when something comparable could have been had in the fourth round. My apologies in advance if this has been discussed, as I haven't read this entire 215 page thread.
  7. How long was that struggle? 15 games? And then helped his team win a cup in his first year.
  8. I agree with this. An optically hard working player will get to play over a more reserved cerebral player. This is why guy's like Megna and Chaput have garnered first line minutes, albeit with little tangible results.
  9. I'm not condoning a total lack of defensive awareness, but what you see from him will likely always appear lacking on the defensive side. If he's forced to earn his way on the grind line, than it's probably not going to work for him here under Willie or Green. He'd do just fine on the Blackhawks. Datsyuk was always a stick checking freak. He was one in a million, especially for a Russian player.
  10. I once watched Ovechkin play a mid season game when I was in Florida. He floated around the whole game, didn't hit, didn't get in on the forecheck, and really did absolutely nothing other than scoring a HAT TRICK. I'm not saying Goldobin is Ovechkin, not even close. What needs to be understood is the typical Russian play style. They float and wait to pounce on their offensive opportunities, and they don't need much. If the plan is for Goldobin to be a 200 foot, two-way checker who scores the odd goal, then it's over for him here already. I honestly can't see him succeeding under Willie or Green. They can't accept this kind of player under the philosophy they preach.
