  1. I think he answered that for you himself this summer. He was clear he only wants to play on a team that’s winning. Over-paying guys out of their ELCs who haven’t proven anything (as far as winning) is not how you build a winner. I guess he expects other guys on the team to take less than they deserve so management can build a contender. It’s his right but I was hoping for better leadership.
  2. No question. And I think it’s reasonable for these two to factor in things besides just how much $$ they’ll pocket at the end of the day. Things like: - A flat cap world - What their contracts will mean for the future of the team. - The fact that their both coming off of down years and their only negotiating power actually hurts the rest of the club. - Still being Restricted and realizing even bigger pay days are ahead of they can get a “reasonable” contract and play up to it without question. - Maybe even, if they were feeling especially benevolent… the teams current cap space as we try to turn a corner from last year. No one wins as this drags out but 40 and 43 are missing an opportunity to endear themselves to this fan base (for long after JB’s gone) and show themselves as true leaders on the club. IMO
  3. The agents work for the players, not the other way around. Petey and Hughes are ultimately in control
  4. I’m feeling less and less for 40 and 43 I wish we knew the numbers but if they’re using Marner and Makar as comps, then good on JB for holding firm.
  5. I agree. For me, if there is any holdout, it's more on the players than the GM. I doubt JB is lowballing them and the issue is whether they're willing to see the big picture of the whole team or just themselves.
  6. Maybe the Sedins could have a word… I was happy they retired when they did but they did have the whole actually “wanting to play for a team that’s winning” thing down.
  7. Petey: "I want to play for team that's winning." Also Petey: "I'll threaten to hurt the whole team if you don't pay me what I demand." I wonder if he realizes how much more valuable he becomes if he errs on the side of a team-friendly deal. That's leadership that speaks to the whole room, trickles down to the other contracts, and is how you play for a team that's winning.
  8. You're way too reasonable to understand the brilliant minds at CAA
  9. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/summer-wanes-canucks-still-hopeful-courtship-pettersson-hughes/ "...Instead, with a week until training camp opens, the best and most important players on the Canucks are still unsigned and figuratively far away. Pettersson has returned to Vancouver from his summer home in Sweden, and Hughes remains at his off-season base in Michigan."
  10. My point was that just saying the date Bo and Brock signed on doesn't represent where we were in relation to the start of training camp. This was just to provide that context.
  11. Yes, but unfortunately comparisons aren't just made to players on the same team. I've been hearing more and more people bringing up Marner as a comparable for Petey.
  12. To me, if Pettersson misses ANY amount of training camp holding out for more $$ his comments about wanting to play for a "winning team" lose all credibility. I really hope we're not going the Marner route with all this...
  13. I read somewhere that the Canes had talked the possibility of extension with KK before they signed him to the OS. Because of that I'm wondering if this whole thing actually makes a lot more sense than it appears at first. Is it possible that the Canes agreed to to pay him something like 3m x 4years (12m total) but to make the offer sheet work work gave him half in the first year? In other words, an extension of (something like) 2m x 3 years is already agreed upon in theory. That would get KK out of MTL. Pay him more that MTL probably wanted to but not look NEARLY as crazy in the end for the Canes.
  14. Move JT to the 1st line, Gadjovich to the 4th, Dickinson to 3rd line C spot, and I think we’re in for some good times
  15. I get that. The question was how can OEL be a better mentor to Petey than Edler. My response: He's a swede who knows what it is to be a superstar. He was also captain for a reason while Edler seems a little more, keep-to-himself-ish He's better mentor material for Petey than Edler, that's all
