  1. quote from Jeremy Davis (part of an report from Johnston published in the Province) “More people are catching on to what the problems are (in prospects), the flags,” he said. “Like (in 2014) with Virtanen. Has size and skill but can’t think the game. You’re seeing this with Philip Broberg, who started with lots of flash, but he’s tumbled as people have watched him more.” Seems like Button and Bob Mc Kenzie are wrong on Broberg having him ranked in the top 10 and other scouting services are right (Cam Robinson, The Score, JD Burke).
  2. https://www.habseyesontheprize.com/nhl-entry-draft-picks-2019/2019/4/14/18307046/raphael-lavoie-2019-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-pick-stats-video-highlights-scouting-report-analysis Let's take a look at his stats, especially the passing.
  3. 1. New Jersey: J. Hughes 2. New York: K. Kakko 3. Chicago: B. Byram 4. Colorado: K. Dach 5. L.A.: D. Cozens 6. Detroit: A. Turcotte 7. Buffalo: M. Boldy 8. Edmonton: C. Caufield (I'm so sorry buddy.) 9. Anaheim: T. Zegras 10. Vancouver: P. Krebs
  4. Boeser’s camp open to anything Rick Dhaliwal: (last week) Vancouver Canucks Brock Boeser‘s agent Ben Hankinson on Sportsnet 650: “There are some big contracts coming down the pipe and Brock just trying to figure out where I fit in all of this. We are open to anything with the #Canucks.” Rick Dhaliwal: Hankinson on Boeser’s contract situation: “We will figure it out, whether it’s a 1 year deal or 8 year deal, something is going to happen in between now and 6 months from now.” 1 year contract would be shocking news. Why would any party involved in this contract negotiations seek for a 1 year deal? Canucks know very well what they will get from Brock and Brock knows that he will play alongside Petterson for many, many years.
  5. Sharks vets like Thornton & Pavelski & Burns are well beyond their prime and play accordingly in this playoff series. Expect that Vegas win the next game and advance to the Conference semi final.
  6. Artemi would prefer enjoying the sandy beaches and the sunshine in Florida instead of the bad weather in VAN. Panthers have the necessary cap space to sign him as a free agent. VAN don't.
  7. You are right. The hockey analyst covering the anaheim ducks is assuming that Zegras is gone before the ducks pick at #9,. It is more likely for him that Boldy would be available at #9 than Zegras.
  8. most likely he will become a anaheim duck at draft day: Number 1- Matt Boldy (USA NTDP) I’ve got a feeling that Matthew Boldy will be an Anaheim Duck at the 2019 NHL draft. A 6’2 185lb winger who checks almost all the boxes that Bob Murray looks for in his players. He’s responsible defensively, he’s a big-bodied guy who isn’t afraid to get into the dirty spots of the ice. He’s not selfish consistently looking for an open passing option but not overly afraid to shoot the puck. Boldy also excels at screening the goaltender, blocking out the sun while also having a tendency to tip pucks. Boldy is a quick player who has a pretty graceful stride for a bigger body, I think Boldy will be a good NHL player but doesn’t exactly have the highest ceiling. He seems like the low-risk type player that Murray frequently takes, he may not set the world on fire, but he’ll at least try and at the very least might be able to make a few sparks. Team Fit- 6/10- He’s not a center, he’s a winger, but he fits all the other intangibles that Murray frequently looks for. Likelihood- 9/10- I think he’s the most likely option for the Ducks short of them winning a lottery spot. I think that he’s not a high-ceiling enough for some of the other teams to take him over the other options meaning he will likely be available anywhere in the 8-11th range that the Anaheim Ducks are likely to pick.
  9. Lassi Thomson (Kelowna Rockets) 6’0 187lbs He began the 2018-19 season scoring 19 points (7g-12a) in 25 games with 10 of those coming on the PP. He is mostly utilized in offensive situations for Kelowna, allowing him to show off his creativity at high speed. Why should my team draft him? He is the most dynamic draft eligible defenseman from the WHL. He is a high volume shooter and loves to direct pucks to the net however he can. He has a high wind up slapper which can be a fantastic PP weapon. Why should my team leave him alone? High offensive upside. Low defensive awareness and positioning. His decision making can be suspect at times too. His creativity leads to turnovers based teammates not expecting poor passes. If he can round out his defensive game I would love to get him in the 2nd round.
  10. I watched the highlights and was impressed, not to say very impressed. What really stood out for me was 1. his wrist shot from the blueline beating goalies easily several times. Wrist shot was accurate and strong. 2. exceptional skating 3. physical presence. I really like the comparison with Brent Burns. After watching the video Brent Burns instantly came to my mind. It seems like he is one of the most controversial players in this years draft. Some scouting services are very high on him, especially Button and Bob Mc Kenzie. Other scouting services / prospect evaluators are less high on him, pointing to his suspect decision making with the puck / lack of hockey IQ. Hannah Stuart | The Score Philip Broberg could be a divisive player in the rankings this year. He’s ranked as high as fifth overall in some rankings, while others — including ISS — see him ranked in the back half of the draft. Jeremy Davis from Canucks Army and JD Burke of Elite Prospects don’t even have him in the first round of his mid-season rankings. That seems to be because Broberg has tantalizing physical attributes — a 6’3” frame and blazing speed — but seems to lack the hockey IQ to make best use of those attributes. He had a standout performance at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, but produced just nine points in 41 games in the Allsvenskan. One scout described Broberg as “A Swedish defenceman version of Jake Virtanen.” Still, if Broberg drops at the draft, then figures his game out, he could make a lot of teams look silly, because he has tremendous raw talent. Cam Robinson from dobber prospects has him currently at #20. https://dobberprospects.com/cam-robinsons-2019-nhl-draft-rankings-april-2019/ Key questions for me are: 1. Does he meet some of the most important criteria of the Canucks scouting staff? 2. How does his game translate to the pro-level / NHL level? 3. Will he ever tap his full potential?
  11. you know what? I saw a mock draft were the Canucks picked Podkolzin at #10. Can you image: a player like Podkolzin at #10. Unbelieveable. Jim wanted badly that the Canucks would get a top 3 pick in this years draft because he thinks that the players ranked there can become special players.
  12. Heiskanen was also considered to be a boring pick at #3 in the 2017 draft. Have you seen his performance the whole regular season, how many minutes he had played. Have you seen what he is doing right now in the playoffs? Soderstrom has the potential to become a top pairing D in the NHL. He can skate like hell, can quaterback a PP which is more than helpful for our team, he has excellent hockey sense. This player is an intriguing prospect, no doubt about.
  13. Minnesota Wild: Pavel Dorofeyev, Left Wing, Stalnye Lisy (MHL): Why this cerebral dual threat isn’t universally mentioned as a possible top-10 pick, let alone a first rounder, is very surprising. Dorofeyev’s ability to execute odd-man rushes and maximize his time in the offensive zone is advanced for a teenager. It’s not common for a neophyte to earn a regular shift in the KHL, but Dorofeyev certainly earned his ice time. saw a mock draft having Dorofeyev at # 12. Unfortunately, this player will not fall in our lap at #40. Do they take him with the 1st ? I would doubt it, because of the experiences Canucks have made with Russian players.
  14. Thx for posting. Three scouts from the New York Islanders were sitting in the 6th row scouting Seider in the semi-final playoffs. Others teams are scouting him, too. I agree with the writer that he could be a Top 15 pick. Don't agree with him on his outlook, that Seider will likely play in junior hockey or AHL. No way that he will going back to juniors. He made his first game in Germany's top league at the pro level being 16 years and 6 months old. That's jaw dropping.
  15. Iain My Intyre mentioned during the season ending press conference that there was a delay in getting the extension with Edler done before the trade deadline and asked Edler about the reason. I propose that you watch that Video and pay special attention to Edler's response, especially at Edler's last sentence.
  16. I believe this has to do with the league he plays in. I would assume that there are not scouts to watch him. The Euro scouts are headquarterd in Finland. I doubt that one of the Euro scouts made all the way to Russia to scout him.
  17. It's going to be interesting to see what player the Edmonton Oilers pick at draft day, if they keep their pick. They need help at forward not in 2 years from now, they need help right now. I think the they are going to consider the following three options, in the order stated, 1. trade their pick for a top 6 forward, 2. pick Boldy with their 1st 3. pick Soderstrom with their 1st.. They not only need help in the top6, but also on the back end with a puck moving D-Man. Puck moving D.-Man with top4 potential are difficult to acquire in a trade (Oilers do not have much assets, apart from the draft picks), or in free agency (taken into consideration their cap limitations).
  18. Look back at page 118. I was the one mentioning his name the first time in this thread. He has all the tools to become a special player. Skating, hockey IQ, shot, skill, work ethic. Only thing is, that he needs to get stronger. It will be interesting to see at what position he gets picked. Dorofeyev: 19 games played/ 31 points Podkolzin: 12 games played/ 8 points Of course, Dorofeyev is about 9 months older than Podkolzin. Nevertheless he is going to be a player, for sure.
  19. Jim Bennings statement: “We’re going to get a good player at No. 10 and I’m confident of that. And we’ve drafted well. We really know the players in this year’s draft.” Wording has changed compared to the previous two drafts. He used the words "real good player" when asked about the player they are going to get in the 2017 & 2018 draft.
  20. 1. physical presence: has already a NHL frame with 6.4, 200 lbs, plays a physical game, can absorb hits from opponents easily, shuts the door at the walls effectively. 2. excellent skating : real good skating technique, highly mobile for a 6.4., 200lbs player, real good straight line speed 3. excellent vision : sees the ice very well 4. passing is another strength: accurate outlet passes on the tape of the teammate, real good first pass to initiate the transition. 5. was recently named rookie of the year in Germany's top league, the DEL, 6. plays in all situations: on the PP, PK, 5 vs.5 7. real good balance on his skates 8. has played extremely well in the playoffs so far, team has advanced to the national championship final (sweep against the Cologne sharks 4:0) 9. is expected to be NHL ready at the start of the season 2019/2020. 10. only adjustments to be made to play in the NHL is the smaller rink and the faster game. 11. two way defenceman: loves to join the rush 12. several NHL scouts made the way to Germany to watch his game in the playoffs. I expect that he is going to be ranked in the range # 10-15 once the final draft rankings are published on April 15, 2019. He definitely will rise from the end of the first round to this range because the Scouts have seen him play in the playoffs and have a much better feel for him as a player than they had at the time the mid term rankings were released. One OHL GM said about him (can't quote because his statement was translated into German language, so I can only re-translate): Seider can become a better D-Man than Seidenberg and Ehrhoff ,the best German D-Man since many, many years. Seidenberg played on the top pairing with Chara. This pairing was arguably the best shutdown pairing in the season 2010/2011 when the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup. Both were fundamental in winning the Cup. Would he be a reach at #10? No, for sure not.
  21. I think there is zero chance that both fall to + 10. I expect that both are gone at #5. Colorado and L.A. might be the lucky teams getting real good centre in Dach & Cozens.
  22. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-draft-lottery-odds-dont-favour-canucks-but-some-forward-thinking-could#comments Odds are really low getting the 1st overall or even the 2nd overall. Pretty good summary written by Ben Kuzma from the Province. Players who might be availabe at #9 are also included with a short description.
  23. Pavel Dorofeyev could very well become the best LW out of this draft class. It's a pretty close race between him and Matthew Boldy, even though I expect Boldy going to be selected earlier than Dorofeyev. Haven't heard Dorofeyev's name on this thread so far. He completely flies under the radar playing in Russia in his draft year whereas Boldy gets a lot of attention playing in north america.
  24. Indeed, Fagemo is an interesting option in round 3. Has been playing on the top line together with Ryan Lasch and Joel Lundqvist (brother of Hendrik Lundqvist, NYR goalie) for Frölunda Indians and was quite productive with 14 goals in 42 played in the regular season. His coach labeled him "sniper". He is a goal scorer with a great shot, good speed and good hands. Nevertheless he was quiet in the playoffs so far - he did not score a goal so far even playing with real good players on the top-line. I read that he was not selected in the 2018 draft due to injuries and inconsistencies. He was invited to the Arizona Coyotes summer camp this summer. Main issue was that he could not adjust to the faster game. For sure an interesting option because of his great shot and his experience in one of the top leagues in Europe. He also looked very good in the Champions Hockey League (tournament of the best European Teams) scoring several goals (if I recall correctly he scored 6 goals). Frölunda won the Champions Hockey League against the Munich Red Bulls and Fagemo scored the opening goal in the final.
