[Rumour] Sam Reinhart open to a trade back to West Coast
Kobayashi Maru replied to a topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
To Vancouver: Reinhart, Ristolainen To Buffalo: 9OA, 2022 Van 2nd, 2021 Phi 2nd, Lockwood To Philly: Schmidt -
Yeah, hard to know all of the specifics of that dynamic. Lot happens behind closed doors and sometimes only a fraction of that would actually come out. Either way, I feel Nuke isn't a core player, so if the cost is low and he fits a need we don't have (Debatable still) he may be an okay add. To your overall point, even if he's a good Russian player, he may not be a mentor.

Good context for this, however without being there, none of us know the full situation. If you perform well, get injured and then your coach doesn't play you at all, you have to look out for yourself and your career. An organization will not do that, and I think the fact that he came back speaks volumes. I wouldn't judge his character negatively based on that.

rumour: oilers kicking tires on Ristolainen
Kobayashi Maru replied to Wolfgang Durst's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Exactly this. I'd rather move somebody else other than Joulevi if we can (Maybe just two 2nds), and then try and collect something for Schmidt. Risto is a true RD that is younger and brings more to the table. -
How is playing in the KHL a character issue? Datsyuk bolted there too and guessing that's not a character issue. There could be a lot of reasons for that and is a pretty big assumption. Nichushkin Dickinson Podkolzin would be a pretty epic third line as mentioned above.

[Proposal] Signing Artem Anisimov
Kobayashi Maru replied to AriGold's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I would prefer to go large with Tarasenko (Low cost vs risk) as a start, Zadorov as a second priority (Meets a need within the core), but if those don't work out (They are unlikely to be in play) then I would be fully in favour of Anisimov as a mentor as he's a good two way player. -
I know we still need to improve the D, and moving a stronger D doesn't help that specifically, but what about a move of Schmidt for Tarasenko? Russian mentor who is an elite talent if healthy. An elite talent without the health questions would be worth multiple firsts. Essentially this would be like a 3rd because of what we paid for Schmidt and a low risk in my mind especially with only two years on Tarasenko's contract. Then you specifically target the D through FA (Suter, Edler, Hamonic, Yandle, Niskanen etc etc) or by trade (Zadorov, Ristolainen etc etc). Lots of options to fill the D, however rarely is the opportunity to get an elite talent (With some risk).

[Proposal] Tarasenko to Vancouver
Kobayashi Maru replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If we step away from the deal for a second can you imagine Miller Horvat and Tarasenko as a second line? That would be one extremely driven line: Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Miller Horvat Tarasenko Pearson Dickenson Podkozlin Yes please! -
[Proposal] Tarasenko to Vancouver
Kobayashi Maru replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I'd be game. He'd make an immediate impact with our team and be a perfect Russian mentor to Podz. Even just Tarasenko for Schmidt and call it a day. We can fill D spots through FA and other trades. I don't fully understand it unless it's injury related, but Tarasenko's value must be close to zero combined with the contract, otherwise Seattle would have taken him and then flipped him. -
At this point it may require bringing Hamonic back, but I still feel the cheapest acquisition with the highest ceiling is Ristolainen as he does almost everything. I have to think Buffalo itself has impacted him like everyone else there. If we traded for him and signed Hamonic then we end up with: Hughes Hamonic Joulevi Ristolainen Rathbone Myers I feel that’s a well balanced D core that is mostly pretty young. Whatever you move Schmidt for closely offsets the Risto acquisition cost.

[Signing] Kraken sign Adam Larsson
Kobayashi Maru replied to NHL'er's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I feel like we do know, but I hope I’m wrong. -
[Signing] Kraken sign Jamie Oleksiak
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah it seems that way. I think Oleksiak is a good add but if that’s per year, no thanks. -

That’s per year? When did Oleksiak become a top four guy and how did he get more than Larsson? -
[GDT] 2021 NHL Expansion Draft
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
This is the part that makes no sense. If they aimed to tank they wouldn’t sign Larsson. If they wanted to complete though Tarasenko is almost automatic. There has to be more to this whole draft. -
[GDT] 2021 NHL Expansion Draft
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Seemed like a good fit initially, however for that cap hit they can get Tarasenko and Larsson for about the same. In goal it will likely be Dreidger, Kahkonen and somebody else in the younger category. Three guys where one is likely to emerge as the starter. -
[Rumour] Vladimir Tarasenko left exposed
Kobayashi Maru replied to Makaramel MacKhiato's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Thanks for the clarification. Completely missed that. At this point if I was Seattle I would make Tarasenko part of my core anyways. -
[Rumour] Vladimir Tarasenko left exposed
Kobayashi Maru replied to Makaramel MacKhiato's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I likely missed the details of it but are trades frozen since the expansion lists were shared? I assumed trades were possible up until the draft hence St Louis getting something instead of nothing for Tarasenko. Now if they lose Tarasenko for something AND somebody to Seattle that may not be ideal either.
