  1. With the 21st pick, the Calgary Flames are proud to select Sebastian Cossa of the Edmonton Oil Kings: @Nail
  2. Wasn't sure it was still in effect, but you're probably right. Guess he has to choose the 10 and I would have to think Buffalo is not on the list.
  3. Just move Schmidt for Ristolainen (Wasn't in favour in Buffalo, fits out age timeline better) and move onto other areas for upgrade. I think Buffalo does this as they get a solid D under contract for many years. Could help out the culture there as well to generate some energy.
  4. Calgary Roster Moves: Recall: Thomas Harley, Joachim Blichfeld Waive: Nikita Tryamkin
  5. Didn't run the numbers but removing Eriksson and adding Reinhart is a wash, and removing Edler and adding Risto is a wash/slight savings. I don't get paid to manage the cap, so I'll leave that to the experts. On the surface it seems like a pretty easy fit cap wise from what I can tell. This is a trade that pushes us over the top and will for many years.
  6. To be honest, it's probably true that it won't cost that much, however I would definitely pay that for those two with the removal of Eriksson. Maybe a 1st for Reinhart and something around Schmidt+ for Risto due to the age gap. These are not two rentals but are two players that can be part of the core going forward. They are the right age group. So many options for our lineup. Adding them both basically fills the two major gaps we have to have our team push the tempo (Our team composition is designed for that but missing a couple pieces).
  7. I don't see why we couldn't shoot for the stars here, and offer our 2021 and 2022 1sts along with Eriksson (Cap) for Reinhart and Risto. Basically a 1st for each of them. They are both young still so we put ourselves right into the conversation: Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Miller Reinhart Podkolzin Pearson Horvat Lind Motte Highmore Lockwood Hughes Hamonic Schmidt Ristolainen Rathbone Myers Joulevi Works for me! Great for years!
  8. Calgary releases: Taylor Hall Corey Perry Michael Frolik Ben Hutton Michael Ferland
  9. Calgary Flames Protection List: Forwards: 1. Connor McDavid 2. Sean Monahan 3. Nikolaj Ehlers 4. Ryan Johansen 5. Elias Lindholm 6. Jesperi Kotkaniemi 7. Jesse Puljujarvi Defense: 1. Hampus Lindholm 2. Noah Hanifin 3. Travis Sanheim Goalie: 1. Carey Price @Nail
  10. Good call with Seattle. Unless they are trying to compete next year (unlikely) then this is a win win scenario.
  11. If we can fit it in, then I’m definitely game too. Adding RNH and Podkolzin, along with some advancement from Hogz and Lind could put us over the top talent wise to be a legit threat from the West I think. If somehow we can snag a Jones like D with Schmidt + 9OA + something else then I think we’ll have arrived to compete in the West.
  12. If Schmidt + 1st + something is the package I think we take it and run. How is this not a well balanced D grouping moving forward: Hughes Jones Rathbone Myers Joulevi Hamonic Yes please. Many years of a great D core before we need to replace Myers and Hamonic.
  13. If we can offload Loui’s contract for a 2nd (Actual $ is much less so I bet there would be an easy taker now) we can backfill that with RNH on a 5-6M x 4 contract to give as another top end offensive talent. Basically like trading a 2nd for RNH. Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Miller RNH Podkolkin Pearson Horvat Lind Looks pretty darn elite to me....
  14. I would take the deal presented by the OP to get Jones if CBJ goes for it. Reasoning: -Draft will be a good one as there are 10 really good players in the draft, however it's still a lot of hope that player will reach the level of Jones in 2-3 years -Schmidt still holds value today, but I fully expect that value to drop as his performance drops or stays the same and the contract could be an anchor. He is a middle pair guy and we have lots of options for that range which are mostly cost controlled. -I fully believe now that Lind will be an NHL player for us, but definitely in that middle six range and not higher. We have a logjam in this range, so the specific impact of losing Lind for us is minimal. Jones gives us the top pairing RHD we need to pair with Hughes for a decade. We can debate for years whether Jones is a #1 or #2, but it doesn't matter as he is paired with Hughes which honestly will have the same discussion. Worst case scenario is you have two #2 D on your top pair for a decade. We could do worse.
  15. Obviously there is a lot of talk about bold moves, but I'm curious if that is actually needed. We have a solid core group, but where we fell down is the talent of our supporting cast. If the top guys struggled or got injured there was nobody that could help us win games. It almost makes me want to hurl even thinking about it, but it got me thinking that some of the Leafs supporting cast was actually pretty good in some regards, but their core is what lost it for them (Which was great to see BTW). That said, their supporting guys can all bring value over what our AHL depth type players have brought. They may also still be in that low salary, can't lose type situation in FA. Take the leaf stench out of it and is this not a better team than we saw last year by distributing out our scoring to avoid key matchups: Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Podkolzin Miller Galchenyuk Pearson Horvat Simmonds/Foligno Motte Sutter Lind Hughes Hamonic Rathbone Schmidt Joulevi Myers If the big move is there for us to improve, let's go for it, but there may be some depth moves at low costs that give us a bigger boost.
  16. Yeah it will likely take more for sure. I’d do a first for him especially if our window opens within the next two years. He’ll be in his prime for many years to come.
  17. I think we need to continue to up the skill level of this team. Requires a trade for Ristolainen (2021 2nd, Lind, +) and some FA signings but I’d like to see: Miller Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Granlund Hoglander Stastny Podkolzin Motte MacEwen Highmore Hughes Hamonic Joulevi Ristolainen Schmidt Myers Demko Holtby Cap might not work so we may need to part with Schmidt (Rathbone steps in) and Holtby (DiPietro or UFA steps in, but I like the look of that lineup.
  18. If Jones ever came on the market and we were the team it would be something like two 1sts and Hoglander or Podkolzin i would think.
  19. If we need a 3C I think we just go for a short term option like Stasny, Staal, Bjugstad, Granlund etc. Tons of vet C so we can likely get one and swap Virt for another out of favour prospect or bu him out.
  20. Still think Ristolainen should be our target. Won’t break the bank to acquire, cap is reasonable, has size and offensive ability. There is something wrong in Buffalo affecting everyone: Hughes Hamonic Joulevi Ristolainen Schmidt Myers Rathbone Forms a pretty uptempo D with Rathbone slotting in for injuries/rest
  21. Calgary Flames Playoff Roster: Forwards Connor McDavid Nikolaj Ehlers Ryan Johansen Taylor Hall Jesse Puljujarvi Jesperi Kotkaniemi Corey Perry Michael Frolik Carter Verhaeghe Defence Ben Hutton Adam Larsson Sami Niku Sebastian Aho Goalies Carey Price Tristan Jarry No Black Aces worth adding as they won't make it to the NHL.
  22. It’s definitely a tough one and will rely on our overall strategy which is fairly unknown. It’s likely that a first round talent in our range will top out at a Reinhart level. It’s all about timing for when we want to compete.
  23. What about Schmidt + our 1st for Reinhart. Our first will be potentially a really good pick/prospect, but won't fit our timeline once they are likely ready and effective. Schmidt seems replaceable with enough good lower cost options on D. If we bring back Hamonic and Edler, plus Joulevi and Rathbone are ready for reps it's not a major loss. We could do something like the following at 5-5: Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Lind Miller Reinhart Pearson Horvat Podkolzin Motte Graovac MacEwen Hughes Hamonic Joulevi Myers Edler Rathbone Gives us three deadly lines and our D opens some room for Joulevi and Rathbone to be regulars.
  24. Haha, I'm in the same boat. Bottom left looks like Hutton back with the club.
