To be honest, scoring depth is something we need. We need to have some legit options on the top three lines. He's not the player he was but he has instincts that still allow for some production and a huge possibility this would be good for Pods and others as well. I'll throw something random out there just because: Hoglander Pettersson Boeser Podkolzin Miller Kovalchuk Pearson Horvat Virtanen Motte Highmore MacEwen

[Rumour]. Zadorov in Chicago.. may not stick .
Kobayashi Maru replied to SilentSam's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Zadorov would meet a need we definitely have, however that need will be met with Tryamkin next year. -
Calgary places a claim on Mikhail Grigorenko Edit: Hit send a bit late as I'm down in the waiver priority.

Well, some interesting moves in Calgary as we move towards a playoff berth. Will it be enough against the top teams? We’ll know soon enough. Here is the updated NHL depth chart including players on IR: Taylor Hall - Connor McDavid - Elias Lindholm Nik Ehlers - Sean Monahan - Jesse Puljujarvi Carter Verhaeghe - Ryan Johansen - Corey Perry Nolan Patrick - Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Alex Nylander (IR) Extras: Michael Frolik - Lias Andersson Noah Hanifin - Travis Sanheim Hampus Lindholm (IR) - Adam Larsson Olli Joulevi - Erik Brannstrom Extras: Sami Niku, Ben Hutton Carey Price Tristan Jarry

Calgary recalls Olli Joulevi

Yeah I agree that could be a good approach too. I have a suspicion that Gaudette may do much better with better line mates like Hogs and Pearson.

We need Tryamkin back as a first priority. Go with the following to start the year: Hughes Hamonic Schmidt Tryamkin Joulevi Myers Rathbone Tryamkin could likely supplant Hamonic but start him on the second pairing.

Posted this in another thread to try and bring more scoring balance and youth: Miller Pettersson Gusev Podkolzin Horvat Boeser Pearson Gaudette Hoglander Motte Boyd Virtanen Vesey Hughes Hamonic Schmidt Tryamkin Joulevi Myers Rathbone Demko Holtby -Take an elite talent like Gusev and put him in a place to succeed -Make the third line actually a threat to score -Lower our 4th line cost and give them some ability to control the tempo -Balance the D but make sure they can control the tempo -Defensive ability can be in the middle 6 vs just the fourth line -Get NT back already. We need him

I think we need to increase our youth (That are ready) and increase our depth of skill and overall balance. Didn’t run the numbers (Which is important) but something like this would be pretty cool to see: Miller Pettersson Gusev Podkolzin Horvat Boeser Pearson Gaudette Hoglander Motte Boyd Virtanen Vesey Hughes Hamonic Schmidt Tryamkin Joulevi Myers Rathbone Demko Holtby

I don't think I quite appreciated how good Gusev has been when looking at KHL and NHL stats outside of this year in NJ. Doesn't sound like he got a fair shake this year, but every year before this is pretty stellar. Wonder what the new contract would look like and if our wealth of 3x3 contracts hampers even exploring.
-
Yeah it wasn't presented to him directly, but those options don't open up unless there is some patience on the JB side. I fully agree that player for player, Pearson fits a slightly better need, but with the contract difference and the potential add of an asset for Pearson, it starts to come into question. To me it's not definitively Pearson vs Turris, but the potential options that open up. Could players like Foligno, Granlund, Galchenyuk meet a similar middle six need at ~half the price, while Podkolzin meets the other side of that middle six need. Seems a bit rushed which made it a bit longer in duration and maybe cost than would have been required.
-
Turris has definitely taken a nose-dive (I'm sure partially because he is way down the depth chart behind three top centers in the league), but how much of a drop-off is he from Pearson? Obviously that ship has sailed, but would Turris at 1.65 for 2 been a better use of our money for middle six winger insurance (He has been playing wing lately) than Pearson at 3.25 for 3?

[Report] Jacob MacDonald suspended 2 games
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Who? I've never heard of him at all. Seems suspension worthy. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Thatcher Demko
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wow, that's absolutely perfect. Nice job JB. Onto the next ones. -
[Waivers] Artem Anisimov, Scott Harrington
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Oh good point. I thought that long term contract had expired and he was on a specific 1 year with Ottawa. It may still work as it's similar to Sutter's contract. -
[Waivers] Artem Anisimov, Scott Harrington

He'd be a great fill in to finish off the year if we move Sutter. Probably best to have a few NHL fill in's if we move some vets out. -
[Waivers] Christian Wolanin
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Definitely a bit of a surprise, but American - check, college prospect - check, waivers - check, this should be a JB automatic. As mentioned, the only way I see this happening is if they move Benn, put Joulevi in Benn's spot and have Wolanin as the healthy scratch.
