Galchenyuk about to make his Leafs debut. I have to think with an opportunity on the line of Tavares and Nylander he could finally put it together but we'll see. Hoping he sees some success, but that the Leafs as a whole don't see any: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/maple-leafs-notebook-door-opens-galchenyuk-simmonds-nears-return/

Discussion: acquiring Wahlstrom/ Bellow cost
Kobayashi Maru replied to Freeridebc's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
It think Wahlstrom is worth a BoHo or BB level of value but I think Bellows is more in the Virtanen/Joulevi type value. I don't think NYI will want to move either of them and I don't think we want to pay the price to acquire either of them. -
Other than two fairly major issues (Skinner contract - wow! and no starting goalie) the Buffalo Sabres roster composition is quite impressive. They have a great mix of elite young talent, strong young talent and the right veterans in players like Staal. It's baffling to look at that roster and see the outcome. Has to be something around the overall team culture as it doesn't add up. This is probably a situation where Buffalo needs a Sutter, Torts, Babcock type coach for a couple years to get the foundations back in place.

[Report] Anders Lee out for the season
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
If we can get a second for Pearson, it's essentially Pearson for Vesey and a 2nd. That would be a decent return and we can move onto a few other moves before deadline. Have to think NYI and Van are at least in some form of discussion. -
This should be the group of 8 we go into next year. If QH or Edler get injured Rathbone steps in fill in the OFD responsibilities and if Hamonic or Myers get injured Tryamkin fill in tough defensive assignments. This gives us the best overall depth and ability for next year.

[Rumour] Sam Bennett requests trade
Kobayashi Maru replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This actually makes a ton of sense for both sides. Just like Virtanen, Bennett’s value has dropped to a level where you won’t get concrete future value back. Sutter gives them a solution for what they need now. -

We’d like to welcome Austin Matthews to the team. We paid him 10M with the condition that he shaves that moustache off and he begrudgingly accepted. Few new rookies joining the sophomores this year along with the Dallas lifers. Team is ready to push again this year to bring it back towards its former greatness: Wilkins(S) - Hischier - McGill Widmar - Matthews - Puljujarvi Sirl(S) - Barkov - Copeland(R) Muinonen(R) - Viheriaranta(S) - Konig Regula – Eggert Beauchemin - Folin Pesonen - DeSousa Shestyorkin Taylor

Myers is definitely not the problem and if he was gone, I think things would be even worse. Myers is very much our Edler replacement over the next year or two. He can be an every situation guy and can play up and down the lineup as needed. He plays with an edge, has a strong shot, can move the puck and can defend as well. Does he make the odd bonehead play, yes, but that is not the norm if you watch closely. There are so many other problems with this team, and there would be more if Myers wasn't here. He is worth the contract and I think will still be a valuable player at the backend of the contract. Truly, we are at the point where we need to consider the sell off of players that don't need to be part of next year or the long term. As a start I would try and move Pearson (Moderate value) and one of Beagle/Sutter (Some value), as well as Benn now that Hamonic is back. Let some younger guys graduate and play out the year seeing what we have with Gaudette/Virtanen/MacEwen/Joulevi etc in more prominent roles. This team's system and confidence is fundamentally flawed at this point, so may as well adjust it to be development focused.

Well isn't this interesting..... I wasn't sure if I was going to be continuing the sell off or holding the fort. Just like Ottawa, a little unexpected. Maybe the young guys are closer to ready than I thought.

Dallas has made some major changes (Other than the All star-first line that could continue to carry us) and there are likely more to come this year as the youth movement starts to take over. Pre-FA looks like this so far: Wahlstrom - Hischier - McGill Widmar - Barkov- Puljujarvi Wilkins - Lombardi - Konig Kylmala - Kotkaniemi- Gielly Regula – Eggert Beauchemin - Folin Girard - Pesonen Shestyorkin Taylor
