  1. Oh right! I guess we will need to just waive Benn and give Tryamkin #8
  2. Nice of him to leave Tryamkin’s number ready for his imminent return.... Come back Tree!!!
  3. I was actually thinking the same thing the other day. I think we have all just put Gaudette on the third because he's there on the C depth chart, but based on his skillset he may actually be much better served as a W in the top 6. He's not as much of a defensive C as we thought, but doesn't get the offensive opportunities that he likely needs. This may actually fill that need nicely.
  4. Dallas Stars awards: 2023-24 MVP - Nico Hischier 2023-24 Leading Scorer - Phil Kessel 2023-24 Most Goals - Nico Hischier 2023-24 Best Defenseman - Brent Burns 2023-24 Best Goaltender - Alexandr Pugin 2023-24 Top Rookie - n/a 2023-24 Unsung Hero - Roope Hintz
  5. Well Dallas made a big step forward this year but face planted in the playoffs. Pieces are in place for a run next year but we’ll be open for some hockey trades this year. However first order of business is to release the following players to FA: Alex Radulov Nick Foligno
  6. Yikes! Well it’s looking like I’ll get a better pick but was thinking we were built for a long run. Come on Phil!!! This is your time to shine.
  7. If we have the cap to sign a top six forward it needs to be Granlund without question. Horvat and Pearson are both hard nosed scorers. They need a pick distributor like Granlund setting them up. He’s only 28 and just didn’t gel with Nashville. Other than that he’s a 60-65 point winger. Perfect fit and likely at discount now.
  8. Wow, that is a lot of money and duration but it works for the next few years at least. Good high energy player so may be okay long term. Is it just me or is he the forward version of Schmidt?
  9. I have to think that JB and LE and his agent are in talks here. They likely went through the following agreement: 1. Allow LE to get some 2nd line mins to prove that he still has it and was a victim of playing time - He proved he has bottom six ability albeit more closely bottom line ability 2. Allow LE's agent to investigate other teams that may take him on, so he can prove he can still play. Some benefit to the internal budget teams based on cap vs dollars - Rumblings of this happening but nothing came from it so likely a dead end 3. Because 1 and 2 have taken place, move to the hard discussion around the team about LE retiring or being placed on waivers. I don't think based on what has been reported by Loui he would do carry on playing in the AHL based on his family being in Dallas and appeared to think he is much better than he is. I think this will come to an end one way or another. If Loui plays for Utica, to continue his career, I think we at least have the cap savings to have MacEwan replace him.
  10. A lot of money tied up in goaltenders, however they don't really have to worry much about that position for two years. Elite starter and 1A/B type backup is a good setup for them.
  11. While the Toffoli contract was a good one, there are still a ton of forwards that are somewhat comparable in performance to Toffoli that could sign for less term/cost: Hoffman Dadonov Granlund Athanasiou Galchenyuk Duclair If they are in-fact low cost I would be focused on Granlund or Athanasiou for Horvat's line.
  12. Schmidt is the type of player that kills us in the playoffs. High energy guy that doesn't slow down. He combines it with skill, so to be honest I'm realizing this is not only a great deal value wise from JB but also exactly what we needed on the D core.
  13. Top four and top seven at the beginning of the next season: Hughes Schmidt Edler Myers ______________ Joulevi Rafferty Benn
  14. Tied for 1st in the league and one player in the All star game? The Stars will remember this!!!
  15. I hate Schmidt but I think this is a good trade. I think he’ll compliment Edler really well. Edler is more methodical while Schmidt will run around like the Energizer bunny.
  16. We are a pretty interesting fanbase. We worry that players like Lockwood will play his college years out and sign as a FA and that would be the end of the world. Then we see Lind added in a trade and think we have sold off our future. However when they are mature enough to play in the NHL we want to sign guys that make it impossible for them to make it. I’m coming around to the fact that our F spots are fine for a while with internal promotion. LD is fine for years too. RD is a problem spot and we need a solution this year on it.
  17. So the biggest UFA on the market is quiet and the Canucks are quiet......Does that mean they are quietly talking together?
  18. This must be a situation where they see Boes and Virtanen as top six and then fill the 3rd line with Lind/Lockwood/Jasek. One is bound to be ready. Sell the farm for a top RD that can pair with Hughes for 10 years.
  19. There is still a short window to sign a decent younger RW to keep the value okay. There are ~2 guys still in FA who could perform the same. Time is running out though.
  20. Only players in FA that can replace his production in theory are Granlund and Athanasiou. If we can get either of them on two year deals then we’re likely in better shape but I have to think they will be signed today by someone.
  21. To be honest I’m good with giving Rafferty the 3rd pairing RD role and he’s actually likely better than Stecher anyways. We just need to find a way to pay up to get a young RD like Ekblad or Ristolainen if they are indeed available. If that happens we are in great shape.
  22. There has to be something going on here but I feel it’s about time for that to happen. Has to be in the OEL discussion realm or Petro I have to think. If JB strikes out on an impact player and misses out on the next wave of Hamonic/Vatanen/Granlund types then we’re in bad shape. Has to be going for a top end guy from somewhere otherwise those middling guys would be signed already. Confusing.....
  23. Maybe things are falling apart here as Schmidt never officially got moved. Maybe that’s why we haven’t proceeded with anything yet either.
  24. If nothing is done I agree, however there are a ton of good players out there still not including the trade market. Feels like the dominos are falling but if we were done we would have heard from JB already.
