  1. To be honest, I am still a Marky fan but I do believe he got to the point of being overvalued. I admire him putting it all together to be a true #1 but I don't think I believe the comments of him as a top 5 goalie. He finally became that true number 1, but top 5 never felt quite right. He managed to a be very strong all around goalie and put in the work to get there which I admired. There was one thing that always nagged me. His glove hand was always weaker than most and it actually made me wonder if he should have played baseball as a kid and whether that actually factors into it at all. May actually be a leg up for our American goalies.
  2. I really really wanted OEL on the team because of what he could bring, but I have to give JB credit for not going to the point where it didn't make sense for us. Onto plan b or c now.
  3. Wow, no kidding. Huge Markstrom fan, but in no way would I have wanted to see a deal anything close to that. For me I had 5M x 4 as my max. Very very happy with our Demko/Holtby combo. I don't think we will miss a beat, and we're in good shape for Seattle expansion too.
  4. Is it fair to say this is the territory of Barrie though?
  5. Wow, his tenure in Calgary was for only a couple hours......
  6. Oh I agree that there would be a 0% change they would be paired together. It would be Myers paired with Hughes and Barrie paired with Edler. I think that could work and I think it allows Edler to move from a two way D to more of a defensive D which I think matches better with his career trajectory.
  7. I like Stecher, but to be honest, don't really want him back unless it's for Leivo type money. Love the heart, but I still feel he doesn't process the game fast enough. Lots of movement but not a lot of vision.
  8. If we want some more Stanley Cup pedigree why not look at Shattenkirk (Likely cheaper than Barrie) and Bogosion (Cheaper than Tanev) on the right side: Hughes Myers Edler Shattenkirk Joulevi Bogosian Maybe not option 1 but could be pretty good backup plan and fit under the cap still.
  9. Pretty sure there were some rumours of revamping the D, but I think getting Tanev back on a fair deal makes sense. Getting Tanev and Barrie would actually be a pretty good results if possible under the cap. I find the Barrie situation interesting. Good number of people wanted him here when on Colorado and one okay year in Toronto and he's the worst D to ever play the game. Have to think he'd still be a valuable add for the next two years if we can get him short term. Tanev, Barrie and Holtby on two year deals would be a pretty amazing haul!
  10. Pretty sure that's to discourage Seattle from taking him. Pretty shrewd if I'm reading the reason correctly.
  11. I would have definitely done that too. Still have this sense that Granlund may be the cards as our top 6 signing as long as it's a discount due to Nashville performance.
  12. I wonder if there is still a play here to move Eriksson to Arizona regardless. They could still benefit from the cap vs real dollars if we take something back where the dollars and cap match.
  13. Well, this makes sense. Show me deal after some injuries to see if he can continue to progress or not. Good depth.
  14. I wish him luck unless it impacts us directly. Problem is it took him 6 years to get to the point he is at now, and I can imagine there could be regression soon. It's great to have our goalie of the future (Demko) ready to go with another great goalie on a short term deal as insurance. To be honest this just works for everyone.
  15. From a Vancouver perspective, this is all happening the way it should. We got the right guy, Dallas got the right guy and hopefully Marky signed for over 6M per year for a long term so we can feel even better about it.
  16. Great signing for Edmonton. I would imagine it would allow them to do something like this: Draisaitl McDavid Neal Nugent-Hopkins Turris Puljujarvi
  17. Wow, that made me puke in my mouth a little. Ultimately I'm not worried as we have the combo we need, but really? Calgary?
  18. This gives Demko the ability to secure himself as our guy for the next 6-8 years and Holtby is the perfect insurance policy before he goes to Seattle. JB, I have to say you made the perfect move in G. Looking for our next two year contracts on a RW and RD. I sense Granlund and Barrie will be next on those shorter contracts.
  19. I think this is exactly what we should have done. Gives Demko the keys but we have a number 1 on the team in Holtby as well. 2 year contracts. I think that's a good trend for us outside of our core.
  20. Do we need to quickly check up on JB and make sure he didn't sleep through his alarm today after discussing OEL all night?
  21. Joulevi would be on the third line for the next year or two anyways. It would be selective times, but I think he'd be just fine against the 2nd/3rd line forwards. Nobody is putting him against generational talents. That would be for Tanev, Edler, Myers assuming Tanev comes back.
  22. Great signing. Happy to have him back for at least another 2 years. Playoff warrior!
  23. He's not my first choice either, but a very strong puck moving D is what our biggest need is. OEL was first choice, just not sure what the other options are outside of Barrie. Pietr is not coming here. My ideal for this is still Rasmus Ristolainen but that will require picks and prospects and likely no cap relief. Ultimately our need is speed out of our own zone.
  24. Because Edler and Stecher couldn't process the game fast enough. We need guys that can move the puck and think quickly exiting the zone. If you add more Tanev types you are still hemmed in. I think we all saw the same result, but the resolution is different that people think in my mind.
  25. I want to have D that can match the pace of the forwards and think the game fast enough. OEL was the perfect choice for that but it fell through. Stecher I liked but couldn't process the game fast enough, Edler is slower so should be more of the Tanev stay at home territory now. We get hemmed in not because we are missing more Tanev's or Mark Staal's but because our D can't think or move fast enough out of the zone. We need guys that can think fast and move the puck out as we have the guys that can play the shutdown role.
