  1. I think it's okay. Tanev, Myers, Edler, Joulevi are pretty solid on D, and gives us Hughes and Barrie to get the puck moving in the positive direction. I'm not convinced that stay at home D is the need more than speed to move out of the zone, which Barrie gives us. I think it may a bit of an illusion.
  2. Great deal that is a complete can't miss at 1M. Could Detroit actually be okay this year?
  3. Well that is definitely too bad. I think our alternative would be: Hughes Tanev Edler Barrie Joulevi Myers I can get behind that, and it's a upgrade from last year.
  4. Hard to know what the first offer is and what the add could be but I'm more in the camp of find a way to get it done. OEL changes our team for the better especially with Loui not in the cards anymore. Other options are definitely in the status quo situation or worse.
  5. Agreed, and if Arizona doesn't play by that deadline, I bet they have that contract on their books until the end. Based on what I hear, that would be the worst case scenario for Arizona vs moving him for next to nothing. JB has leverage for sure, but we can't wait to let everything pass us by. JB better have control of this whole thing.
  6. It's possible that rather than handing out 4-5 year deals for Toffoli, Markstrom, Tanev, JB focuses on only 1-2 year deals, so that he has a ton of flexibility for expansion and Petey/Hughes re-signings. I think bringing in players like Holtby, Granlund, Barrie for example on 2 year deals may be better than the 4-5 year deals of our current guys. I think only Tanev would potentially accept a 2 year out of those 3.
  7. Sure hasn't been and sure doesn't seem like it will be this time either. He has the chance to surprise, so I'll wait on the final outcome. Based on who joins the Canucks, we'll know if he made his master plan work or if he was left scrambling at the end. Not securing OEL will be a big sign of the latter.
  8. We need to remember that in 6 years 8.2 won't be the same as what it is today. Cap will be flat for a couple years, but then likely will be going up and 8.2 will be like 6 today I bet.
  9. Or maybe what Chelios looked like at 45. 10 years after this upcoming deal expires. I think OEL will age well based on how his game is based. He will be productive at 35 I would imagine.
  10. If we are not bring back Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli, then I would focus on Holtby, OEL and Granlund as direct replacements
  11. I don't think so. Not at the start at least. If they are planning on trading him, they will after he plays some NHL games and proves that he is a top 6 winger.
  12. Yeah not sure either. I don’t feel they are quite deep enough to pull it off, although I also thought Ryan Murray was worth way more than a 5th so what do I know.
  13. I sure think so. Elite D are unicorns. We drafted one and finally have 1 in our entire franchise history. I'd go for two by adding OEL over our emerging goalie who in all honesty (Markstrom) could be replaced by Demko and a 1A/1B type.
  14. If that's what he hold out for, they can have him. His demands will determine his fate with us.
  15. Dallas with two losses in a row? Pick it up boys. Kessel can't be out of gas yet.
  16. At a certain point if Arizona wants Demko along with some salary relief to get OEL I think you just pull the trigger. Gives us OEL and Marky which will boost us for at least the next 3-4 years, while the add some Forwards that are less than Toffoli such as Granlund, Athanasiou. I'd be pretty happy if we made some moves like that. Big Demko fan, but don't want to lose out on OEL.
  17. I think it was a good move bringing in Anderson, but that contract.....yikes. Can't imagine Anderson himself would have really been expecting that during COVID free agency. That agent is a genius!
  18. Wow, if he can get past his injury issues then he could be a very valuable player for them but that contract is brutal even if things work out near perfectly. No way he lives up to that. How did that contract even happen? Yikes.
  19. Wasn’t there some discussion as him as the goalie of the future (with him) and then a surprise trade from him?
  20. I think he's the perfect playmaking winger for Pearson and Horvat as they are both drive to the net scoring forwards. Need a playmaker on that line to make it gel. Boeser to the top line and Granlund on the second line. He's not a natural C however that would give us flexibility due to injury.
  21. Our Granlund was meh, but Mikael Granlund has been a productive top 6 winger with skill. Something didn't work with Nashville, but I don't think that's an indication of a major decline as he's only 28. Could be wrong but he feels like a decent UFA bargain this year. Pearson Horvat Granlund would be a pretty good second line for us.
  22. Obviously some major injuries and inconsistency from that, but would he serve well as a backup and mentor to Demko? Or are the bridges there burned already.
