  1. The problem I see in Utica as a venue is the sub 4000 attendance. I am not sure the Canucks see that as an issue but I think both Abbotsford and Victoria have venues and support that would make that 7000 plus attendance for a Canucks affiliated team.
  2. I was thinking if someone put his diminutive size and a mighty quinn reference together we just might get to "Mighty Mouse"
  3. Aquilini bought the stealth and according to 650 this am he has asked about the lions
  4. You guys are confusing angst over losing a player with criticism of an unrealistic Utica line up projection. If any player is not good enough they should be waived or traded. Sure. But we are talking about Utica. And the point is it is unrealistic to project Granlund on Utica. And that was only the first thing wrong with the line up projection.
  5. The point is....name a player of Granlund stature the Canucks have waived? Still young. Experienced. 19 goals year before last. Not gonna happen.
  6. yup, they are all right full up Rob. Then why do many teams sign players to try outside for training camp. You might remember a certain try out getting scooped from the Canucks during camp not too long ago. Teams are scrambling to ice their best teams and there are more than a couple teams that will see Granlund as an upgrade to their worst forward. Frankly the Canucks should be on that list too. So not sure why this is such a discussion.
  7. Minnesota would never let Granlund through waivers.
  8. I agree the ability to have such a debate is cool. I also can't wait to see how EP and QH style translate to the NHL game.
  9. I would disagree. My opinion is that EP will be the greatest Canuck ever. But Brock and Bo might have something to say about that too.
  10. He could go back to college then play in the world juniors in vancouver and then jump to the Canucks after that too. Players have left college mid season before and he would get a college semester in too that way.
  11. Maybe Jasek is behind in the sense he will play lower in the lineup probably. But in timeline he is ahead.
  12. Lind will be faster and stronger and better this year. He needs all this year and probably more in the AHL. But I believe he is a gamer and keeper. Jasek will show he is too good for the AHL and unproductive in the NHL. Why? Because it seems to be the way he is and why he bounced up and down so much in Europe. But when Jasek gets the NHL level he will stick.
  13. But probably doesn't guarantee he doesn't get the Stecher treatment and a few games in Utica. Although I think that is more likely Gaudette this year.
  14. I do not know why they felt they needed another winger though.
  15. For him to be in camp he has to have already turned pro. So your logic doesn't match reality.
  16. If Gagner is as replaceable as he is then one of our young guys better take his spot.
  17. interesting that horvat is also in the just missed category and that EP is listed as a C
  18. As has been discussed here previously Lind is a very versatile player who can play all three forward positions. I don't see anyone forcing Lind to play center as he is happy to play wherever they have a spot. But being a defensively responsible player, being strong on the puck and good at faceoffs it is logical he would get some looks at center. Even if that is just enough that he play as the center on a PK pair (as he often did in Kelowna). Or if that is 5 on 5. He is a good puck handler and play driver. I see this as part of his game. But I see this as something Dahlen can do as well.
  19. Honestly, I think you arguing this point with people has been dialing things up. Just my two cents though.
  20. But I think we can only retain on one. We have retained salary on Luongo and I recall a limit on two withheld contracts.
  21. But I don't think there is much chance Lind outplays Petterssen. Then again Lind can definitely play both wings. But then so can Jasek, and Dahlen plays left wing too. Lind is good and gonna be really good imho. Just would be a big surprise to grab a spot on the Canucks this year.
  22. Yeah. But it looks like Palmu, Gaudette and Jasek really screw with the odds. I find it really hard to believe we don't have at least 2 solid NHL players out of those three 5th and 6th round guys.
  23. I agree with everything Odd is saying but one thing. One little perspective change. I think the UFA signings signal that we are taking a more "classic Detroit model" thought pattern into player development. So I think there are young players that will get NHL looks this year. But I don't think a first year pro like Lind gets more than one NHL look this year a la Demko last year. I think Lind gets basically a whole year in Utica this year and is an up and down player next year. If he does well in both years then he can earn a spot on the big club in the third year. But I think they want a first pro year to be more about learning to be a pro, eating like a pro, practicing like a pro, training like a pro, thinking like a pro. A second pro year to be more about learning to translate the game to the NHL. I think Petterssen, Dahlen, Jasek, Gaudette, Palmu and Joulevi are seen as second and third pro year guys and are the guys who get NHL looks to NHL spots. While the Lind and Gadjovich are definitely seen as first pro year guys. Hughes may go back to NCAA or start in Utica because of this mindset or may just have the rules thrown out for such a unique player. But Lind has something to prove in the AHL this year. And I am curious to see how he develops and what his pro game looks like. Is he still a pest? Is he still a great transition guy? Is he still a sniper? Does his great two way and playmaking make him someone we try at Center? So many questions to answer and so much time.
  24. Simmonds isn't a bad comparable for Lind's game. I see a little more Burrows than Simmonds. But something like that.
  25. Looks to me like we are going to have quite a few wingers battling for maybe one open winger spot at camp. A winger spot that seems to have Petterssen penciled in. But Dahlen, Jasek, Palmu, Lind, Gadjovich all look close. Then you have the Motte, Boucher, Goldobin, Leipsic group where we seem to all assume Goldy and Leipsic NHL other two AHL. Going to be a lot of players battling for winger spots this year and next as we try to get faster and more skilled while becoming grittier and harder to play against.
