But when do we ever start the year with our top 6 d healthy? And we usually carry 8 D. I don't have an issue saying Olli is one of our 8 and plays every second game for the first two weeks. Someone will get hurt that fast anyway and Olli will take a couple weeks to start to settle in and a couple press box games will give him cerebral perspective. Yes he needs to play and when everyone is healthy if he isn't truly top 6 he can go down for a few games and get top pair minutes in Utica. Our D is so injury prone it will not be more than a few games.

And yet Grabner was waived by Florida shortly after acquiring him and boom 52 point season and good career. It happens that they make a mistake. Just not often.
-
If the Canucks want Gaudette to develop into an offensive top 6 center, I wonder if he ends up with top line minutes in Utica for a year. Dahlen Gaudette Jasek as a top line in Utica could really make some noise down there and help those three become more confident offensive players for the Canucks in a year.
-
I say it might take half a season for Green to say he's "earned it".
-
Because they had such great careers? They guys who end up getting lost on waivers don't usually amount to much.

I am going to assume you mean PK as Gaunce on the PP would be silly. But beyond that I don't see what you don't get. Archie can outplay Gaunce at his specific role and teams that can roll 4 dangerous lines are the way teams are going and Brendan does seem to be able to score at this level. So the next wave will be hunting his job soon.
-
And we may have too many good young kids at wing to have a Gaunce much longer too.
-
Nice to see Palmu signed. So now with adding wingers Palmu, Jasek, Lind and Dahlen, all presumably for Utica next year, can we add a center? That was Utica's weakest position last year. Looks to be the same this year.
-
Really? Archie, Gaunce, Granlund, Motte, Dowd and Macewen will all be fighting for the two spots on Sutters wings on our 4th line checking unit. I think you see Jasek in the conversation with JV and Leipsic for Gaudettes wings for the 3rd line. Maybe even Lind but he would be a dark horse this year. Just don't see Gads to have the skating to get into the conversation for a bottom 6 roll this year. And his wheels might hold him out of winning that role in Utica too.
-
I don't get all this talk about Gads in NHL next year. I honestly can't see us field more than three rookies. Gaud and EP are almost locks. I say OJ, Dahlen and several others have shots at the 3rd spot. But with the minor growth this year and skating issues I go 50/50 on Gads doing an overage year or a first Utica year and don't expect him in NHL for 3 years.
-
Sorry if I just missed it in all this non EP stuff, but did the boy wonder need surgery on that thumb? And if so was it done, successful, later?
-
Interesting that whoever made that got Bouchard's stats wrong, copying Hague's stats in instead of the 25-62-87 it actually is.
-
Yeah. Uh. He will be back in Windsor and playing at the world juniors. As you said he is 18.

I agree with the negative impression of the Messier years. I can recall one night him calling Cassels off the ice so he could go on for a faceoff after the coach had put Cassels out. I remember the glare Cassels gave him as he came to the bench and a few related cat calls from the stands to them both. I also remember the excitement of 82 and 94. The edge of our seats for Bure. The disappointment when Nedved's name was called instead of Ricci or Primeau (don't think many fans knew much of Jagr at draft time). The expectation and then the shock that Burke pulled it off to draft the twins. But not since the hope of the expansion number 1 lost to the flip of a coin have we had close to the hope we have with Bo, the flow, EP and OJ coupled with the amazing stable of other prospects we have and will soon have. I have hope we will reach greater heights with this group than we did with Hank and Dank, Kes and Burr, & Lu and the red headed backup that netted us Bo.
-
he just needs to play with one the corner guys to get him the puck.
-
It's not ever a year later yet. It won't be that high. But if JB can do a 2015 quality draft every couple years we will be good. We might get 4 from that year yet.
-
I agree and disagree with this. I see Bure as a scorer and this would more equate him with Boeser (Boeser being the shot and Bure being the speed but dangerous scorers are both). I say what you said was true in we have NEVER had a prospect like this, EVER. We never got a Gretzky, or Mario or hawerchuk or Yzerman or Crosby. What everyone hopes (I think) is that EP is that top tier center we have never had. And thus everyone is worried we screw this up.
-
Remember guys this is two steps up from SHL. Basically playing with players in the top half of the NHL. He is keeping up and looking like he belongs. There should be no expectation to be dominant at this level.

At the AHL level 2 to 3 years sounds about the right amount of time for a goalie that is progressing to the next level. But the point is that Demko will be gone from Utica before Dipietro is ready for the starting role. Thus we seem to be short a quality goalie in the pipeline. Not every player is going to progress and succeed either. Now with Bachman looking really old this year and Garteig not appearing to be able to progress past echl we seem to be going to need to find another goalie. And both Gartieg and Bachman we already FA signings and fill in players because we haven't drafted enough quality goalies.
-
and was a very young drafted player who will play in the world junior in draft plus 2 season. Thus we need a goalie between demko and dipietro.
-
yeah. we needed another goalie drafted between dipietro and demko.
-
I like Palmu a lot. Can't wait to see what the fire hydrant can do at camp. But he realistically needs a couple years in Utica and may never be able to translate to the NHL. He will be fun to watch either way though.
-
so Juolevi vs Petterssen on the 29th maybe.
-
We are getting to the point now when the drop off from the guy injured to the replacement will be less and less in the next few years though. Was a long drop off this year with no Horvat and no Sutter. Unfortunately I am not sure center gets much deeper next year. But wing and defence and goalie should have competent replacements next year.
-
Yeah. I honestly think Jasek needs a year in the AHL with Lind next year with both of them getting a call up to give them a taste a little bigger then Demko got this year. Replace those names with Gadjovich and Palmu the year after.
