  1. So big name UFA’s are something you would love for once to be in position to sign. Big names, like Louie Eriksson? We were in a position to sign him and did, also Myers was a pretty big name UFA dman. Beagle was a decent part of a cup winning team...the names you keep complaining about are the big name UFA’s you are complaining you want the ability to sign. Sometimes the best deal is the one you don’t make. You can keep complaining but JB had a lot of doubters and this year turned out OK. Quick...fire the guy that just got you past the defending champs and took Vegas to game 7. He picked up Miller for the 20th overall. Does this buy him 0 slack to even fill a roster without calling for his head?
  2. So you want to have Marky signed long term? How about Tanev? It’s easy to sit here saying how bad moves are but you didn’t answer what you would do? This post is about not being in on free agents so the ones we are in on you don’t like. Good UFA’s typically get overpaid. When the likes of Beagle were signed we were a bottom dweller and he was a Stanley cup champion. They don’t come cheap. Do you think it’s a coincidence that Bo, Petey, Quinn, Brock etc continue to impress? Is it remotely possible that these overpaid vets may have filled some of the role of mentor? I’m glad my job isn’t criticized by thousands of completely unqualified people. Not all moves work out and some work our well. If you want to be “in” on free agents as a team in lottery contention you have to have a lot of open cap space and usually give out more term than you want to. I for one am ok with the current wait and see approach instead of opening up the wallets. We have youth coming up that everyone complains is blocked by aging vets and now there are spots. I would like to hear your stance on my comments regarding waiting to see what JB does with these holes before complaining and calling for his head?
  3. So if we sign UFA players like: Erikkson, Beagle, Sutter, Myers then JB sucks at cap management. If we let players walk that have an injury history or are “too small” then JB sucks at asset management. If he lets an aging vet go (Markstrom) then signs a cheaper UFA goalie JB should have got better value. No one forsaw Covid and a flat cap...can we at least wait until the roster is filled out before running from the falling sky? Tampa Bay has some players to let go, trades have barely started. I admit Toffoli at that price makes me wish he was here but at least see what the rest of the roster looks like before crying about regression...this lousy GM got a team deeper than every other Canadian market is he “held accountable” for that too. Tell me how you would do it? Eriksson Basrtchi and a first for McDavid with 50% retained? This board makes me question things sometimes. I want to be clear before I get flamed. I don’t necessarily agree with every move made but hindsight is 20/20 and we haven’t seen who is filling in these holes with the newfound cap. I am optimistic that with a flat cap and an unknown future Benning may yet surprise with a positive move or two before the season starts.
  4. This guy just loves losing...hope he gets paid is all I can say.
  5. It most certainly is a two way street. I hate to see it end for him like this, but there is a global pandemic, a flat cap and his play hasn’t been the same. I don’t think too many players are afraid to take the money. True loyalty in hockey from players or teams is the exception not the rule.
  6. I like Jake, and feel he will put it together as an NHL’er. What I am starting to believe is that it won’t be in Vancouver. Some guys need to get passed around a little and threatened with an actual loss of a job to figure out being a true pro. Look at Zack Kassian as an example. I know he had other issues (not entirely dissimilar to Jake but I don’t know if he is into the blow or just the partying) but he was not going to improve here. The first trade sent him into a spira and the next one seemed to wake him up. Jake has too many tools not to be in the NHL but needs a change of scenery. If Seattle takes him it’s a loss, but not an insurmountable one.
  7. I might be way out to lunch but I don’t want Pietrangelo on any deal that is remotely close to happening. Sure if he signs a 3 year reasonable cap hit we jump...but why would he do that? This is where he gets paid. The flat cap may limit his choices but someone is going to give him big dollars and term or at least big dollars. We need to build a team, not blow the farm on an aging D man. I think this team can do most of what it needs by committee and could upgrade a couple positions in smaller increments that won’t need 7 year contracts. We need stay through Covid, keep our current young core happy and paid and see where the dust settles. I would like to see which goalie gives us the best ROI. (Will anyone truly overpay is for Demko?) If it’s Demko trade him and take the spoils. If no one will over pay, see what Marky wants to re-sign. If it’s low enough keep him, if it’s not let him go and improve the D with the extra money. The next couple years the best team is going to be the one playing money all, not necessarily the team with the best top line.
  8. I’d much rather listen to Bo, tell his team that there is a wife beater in the other locker room and watch some grown men kick his ass all night than give him one minute in Canucks colours. Character matters... same reason I wouldn’t let Marchand in our room if they promised us the Gary Bettman memorial (Stanley) cup for doing it. Rather lose with I team I respect than win with one I can’t.
  9. Why would we try to make Motter into a center? His strengths are in puck battles, hits, forechecking and PK speed/counterpunch. Centers need to take face offs, spend a lot of time in the middle of the ice. I wouldn’t bet against him, but there are other options for a third line C. I’d be willing to give him a shot at the wing on the second line before this. As long as he gets 15 or so minutes a game you can call him whatever line you want. Just sign the guy and let him do his thing. He is good at it.
  10. I’m not panicking, I’m not panicking. I’d really like to see more than one shot in this period though...I’m fine with 2 if it goes in
  11. I hear this, but it’s different this year. I like being the underdog. If we win it’s a full on party and celebration. If they lose it’s all good. This core is young enough to compete for years to come. The stress is all on Vegas.
  12. So the important questions: What’s everyone drinking? When did you start drinking? Is everyone prepared for some shotguns tonight?
  13. Where do the numbers in the lineup come from? Is that really saying Patches is the second best left winger in the NHL? sorry...got sidetracked. This game is a win no matter what. All I wanted to see this year was playoff hockey. We took out the Wild to make the show. Shocked the returning champs to get to the second round and now the Golden Knights are having sleepless nights with nightmares of Demko in their heads. These kids have proven they can win in a number of different ways. Gonna be a great game tonight. I think it’s going to surprise some people how good these Nucks really are. Vegas is on their heels, squeezing the sticks and are tired. Our team is younger and hungrier. The key will be a fast start and I’m betting Green has them ready.
  14. So this is officially my plan...love my Nucks, prediction is 4-1 Vancouver tonight but alcohol is the real story today
  15. This game was lost early. It’s not unusual from young teams. Vegas has a couple good (lucky) plays early. Canucks had over a minute of 5 on 3 to get back in it. Maybe I read too much into that, but they seemed disinterested after that. This team needed to come out flying and looked good until it was 2-0. Hoping for a quick start tonight as it looks very much like a series where the first goal wins each game.
  16. I feel like Binnington is a one hit wonder. Some posters on here think our coach makes questionable decisions. Marky is better than either goalie but those numbers are terrible this year. I thought a goalie is asked “what have you done for me lately?” Not “remember back when you were playing well?” Oh well. goalie - advantage Nucks defence - I know I’m a goner, but Quinn is on another level and the physical play is not having the effect St Louis wanted I’m going to call this even forwards - this is ROR against Petey, Bo, Miller, Boeser and more. Advantage Canucks. If the boys come out and skate hard I think this one is ours.
  17. No thanks. He disappeared in the Leafs qualifying round. You don’t replace a defensive stud like Tanev with a liability like Barrie. If he signs for Stecher money maybe you leave Stecher out (I’d rathe keep Troy as the kid has a huge heart out there). If Tanev walks we need a big bruising crease clearing stay at home D man, not an overpaid offensive Dman to play 20 seconds of every power play. It’s just like the forwards. Petey needs Bo on the second line. Very different players that make the other team have to choose how to play the game. Do you put ROR against the alien or the Ox? Unless you have two you’re screwed. PS leaf leftovers should be free or close to it. If you can’t olay good enough to get a contract on D in Toronto you should probably consider calling it a career
  18. This depends on what you mean by speed. Guys like EP and QH are playing chess while others are playing checkers. It’s easy to fly past an opponent who isn’t ready for you. Jake is the fastest straight line blue line to blue line skater. Throw in the ability to steal the puck, deke an opponent and keep the puck on your stick and it’s a different question. I think Rooster is under rated but shines because of the weaker competition. Fastest skater with the puck sure looks like Bo in this series to me.
  19. I started this series with a “experience will help them win or lose”. While this is still true, now I want to see Perron cry like a baby. These Canucks aren’t your 2011 pushovers everyone expected. Jake will go beast mode if left on the top line with Petey. Bo is clearly Trevor Linden’s illegitimate son. Boeser has something to prove too. I’m really believing they can do this! oh yeah...what happened to all the folks that thought we got screwed on the JT Miller trade? Are they ok? Haven’t heard from them in a while.
  20. I don’t predict losses so I’m going to go big. Vancouver finds its scoring touch and plays a complete game. 5-2 Vancouver gwg is Boeser
  21. Isn’t that the point of this thread? The guy clearly wants a job and is willing to support his team in any way to try and get it. His contract does not stipulate that he has to live in a bubble away from his family. While it would be a terrible career move to opt out the OP has a valid point in that he is showing loyalty. I don’t thing Domingue is much more than a career backup I agree that a solid thank you from the Canucks is in order.
