The athletic projects the Canucks 26th overall?
Amebushi replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
What are the odds on this? Can I make a bet that the Canucks will finish better than 26th. I’d take that for a couple hundred bucks. -
I feel like captain Bo is going to do his usual thing, outwork everyone drive the net and dish to Miller for an easy first goal.

[GDT] Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers, Oct 2, 2019, 7 PM

It just signals that your post received 5 or more upvotes. -
He plays both ends of the ice, took more face offs (with a good winning percentage) than anyone. Can be relied on in any and all situations. Can and does physically look after himself on the ice. I’m not knocking Petey, but Bo is a leader in many categories. Petey is the most skilled player and scores the most points. Bo has been a leader from the first day on this team, players like Brock and Elias clearly look up to him. It’s a one horse race in my opinion. Most points does not equal best fit for Captain

Which F or D pairing will have the most impact this year?
Amebushi replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
I voted for Bo-Miller. Totally agree with Jimmy on this one. Last season teams eventually figured out Petey and Brock and managed to shut them down a lot of nights. This year, focusing in on Petey will just result in Bo and JT getting more opportunities against lesser competition. It has been a long time since Van had a top six that contained 6 NHL level top six players. -
A game with goals is going to be more entertaining than one without. I don’t care who scores the Stanley cup winning goal for the Canucks, but if I was a betting man I’d put my money on someone who actually has a contract with the team. Although if the big guy really can be captain and score the winning goal from Russia we should definitely retire his number.

[GDT/PGT] Canucks @ Kings - Sep 21st 2019 - 6PM from Salt Lake City Utah
Amebushi replied to xereau's topic in Canucks Talk
I’m loving that hockey is being played, but I’m getting itchy to see a real game with a real roster. I want to see Bo’s line gain the zone, pin them down and tire out the D. Then watch the opposing coach as Petey, Brock and Ferland jump over the boards. Deep teams win, not 4 $11 million dollar and an AHL team. I think this roster tonight mops the floor with the kings as long as our goalie is on. Go Canucks go! -
Well now I feel like crap...didn’t know he was gone. Hell of brawler, would have looked good in blue and green.

WTF did I just read? We need more toughness? What are you looking for on the ice? Should we trade for Lucic? I heard a rumour that Kimbo Slice is looking for a job maybe we can stick him on a line with Petey. If the additions of Ferland, Miller, Benn and Myers weren’t enough of an improvement you are either straight up trolling or just fell out of a time machine from the 80’s. I love a good fight too, but times are changing. Big hits, the occasional “accidental” cross check and the ability to move people from the front of the crease are what is considered pushback now. Think what Quinn and Petey will do against AHL plugs on a fourth line to fight. They will skate around them and score. Other teams will do the same. The enforcer roll is dead unless you find one that can skate on a top line. Retribution after the fact will result in Canucks being suspended until the end of time. Let this much bigger team go show what they have before calling them out for a lack of truculence.

Well, let’s see here. I predicted that Brock would sign an 8 year deal just after the regular season started. I am not only completely wrong but also very ok with that. Once again I think JB has made a good deal with a good player. These fair contracts (looking at Brock and Bo) are setting a precedent within the team. We have something special brewing here. Go Canucks go!

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Amebushi replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am starting to believe there is some truth to the rumours that this deal has already been made. Both sides are saying they are open to long and short contracts, Brock does not have a history or report of being a me first type of guy. I just have a hard time believing that they are actually at an impasse worth missing training camp for. Brock’s dad is ill and the Canucks have a bit of a cap crunch. Put two and two together and it makes me wonder if they haven’t agreed to a long term contract already and just keeping it quiet. The team gets to wait until LTIR kicks in to put Brock’s increased salary on the books, Brock gets some extra family time and everyone wins. My latest guess is going to say that Boeser gets officially inked to a long term deal on the first day of the regular season after Roussel gets put on LTIR. As long as I’m making a WAG I’m gonna say 8 years and between 7.5-8 AAV because a smaller number could be squeezed in already. -
A fourth line center who excels at face offs, keeps in great shape and place an excellent shut down role? Sounds like Jay Beagle to me.

Things can be taken out of context. His dad said he could see him one day being a captain. What father wouldn’t want that? Bo also quoted wanting to bring a Stanley Cup to Vancouver. Is that premature as well. Maybe he should have said he would like to play meaningful games down the stretch and that he isn’t as good a leader as Petey...you are entitled to your opinions and it appears that it’s more about wanting Pettersson to wear the C than about Bo’s character. He is a stand up guy, a great leader and has a proud father. These are all positives and there are worse problems than a team with too much quality leadership. We can debate who should be captain and when it should be announced but the Horvat family reputation is beyond untouchable IMHO.

Who cares what Boomer says? All these clowns will hate on the Canucks until they prove something on the ice again. Then suddenly Petey will be on the cover of NHL games across USA and all the “experts” will have predicted their greatness. He is gathering attention for himself by trying to upset Vancouver fans. Let the young guys mesh together and enjoy watching Toronto tank so we can hear about their amazing rebuild.

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Amebushi replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Are doctors wizards now? Not all injuries heal completely or perfectly. Even young people develop scar tissue after surgeries. Explain how Edler got injured and was never the same? Many pro athletes even with the best care money can buy don’t come back 100%. What about the mental side of the game. Play with an injured wrist for a season and learn new habits to compensate for it, develop a fear of re injury. These are real things that can and do happen. The team would be silly not to at least consider the possibility during a negotiation. I hope I’m wrong too as I thought Brock looked like a real star player. I still think he will be a very good to elite scorer but after last season you have to question a few things. 1 - Can he avoid injuries 2 - Is he really 100% of what he was when he broke into the league 3 - can he stay there long term? 4 - how many million dollars over how many years are you willing to wager on this? -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Amebushi replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Clearly my example is a bit off, and I already stated I want Brock signed. Where do you find that a young age guarantees no lasting effect from injuries? I’ve broken a vertebra in my back, it healed up fine but was never the same again. I’m not saying he isn’t the real deal I’m saying pay him for what he has proven. He is not a consistent 30 goal scorer. He is a consistent high 20 goal scorer with a ton of potential and upside. I’m opposed to handing out high dollar long term contracts to unproven players. I also believe that injuries can and often do change careers. The difference between being a real star and being a solid NHL player is not that much. If you want an example look at Edler...I bet without injuries he would have had a very different career. Hopefully you are right and Brock has no lasting effects and fills the net for many years. I’m just saying if he wants a 30-40 goal paycheque he should have to put the numbers on the board. It may cost more long term but I’d rather see our stars paid a little extra than throw money at potential. -
Wow! People actually think that a pro athlete should have his contract cancelled for drug use that doesn’t enhance performance??? If we fired everyone who has ever done drugs there would be no one left working. Where do we draw the line? Drunk in public is a crime? Had more than two drinks on a Friday, you’re fired! Jay walking is a crime...you’re fired! I think the IIHF was really hard on him already, good on the NHL and the Caps for trying to help him. I don’t support drug use, nor do I do any illegal drugs (now that my favourite one is legal) but come on people, get off the high horse (pun intended) and face the real world. Not everyone goes to church on Sunday and some people blow off steam differently than others. The only person getting hurt is himself...until that changes I’m gonna keep watching these guys play hockey.

[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Amebushi replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don’t understand how these contracts get negotiated anymore. I like Brock as a player on the ice and as a human off it. I want to see this signed as much as anyone. Making comparisons to long term contracts for consistent 30 goal scorers doesn’t make sense. He has not scored 30 goals. He has been injured two seasons in a row. These are facts, not pro-rated belief. I agree and will happily bet a few bucks that he will be a 30 goal scorer but I wouldn’t be paying him 8X8 for that hunch. Injuries do happen and they do affect you later too. Has his wrist really healed? Is his back going to be the same. The argument that he would score X amount more goals if he played 82 games is irrelevant to me. I have scored in 100% of the NHL games I have played in so that makes me an 82 goal scorer, please send me in the direction of my giant payout please. I miss the days where players that show huge potential but have a couple question marks sign short term bridge deals and prove they have it or they don’t. After that they gain arbitration rights and get paid or fall by the wayside based on performance. Not a fan of the new Dubas model of paying everyone so they don’t sit at home to cry. -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
Amebushi replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
A couple things before I state an opinion: 1 - It is August, I miss having hockey to talk about 2 - I’m not a GM (thank god) 3 - I’m a Canuck fan and try to stay positive all the time. Now, BB is up for a new contract. Bo signed what I believe is a very team friendly deal saving us a few bucks. EP and Hughes are on entry level deals and we have a few gems brewing around the lower leagues still. Maybe it’s time to take some more risks. Sign BB to a low AAV 2 year deal. Gives him time to show how good he really is and save the team some $$$. Use that $$$ to retain salary and throw a second to try and get rid of Eriksson. With all the new blood in the locker room this year, a top six (with actual top six players) a defence that may be able to function without Edler or Tanev and Marky stepping it up this could be a small window. In 2 years we will hopefully have a cup contender worth taking a discount for and know who of the young guys is really worth the payday. I say if Brock doesn’t want long term than give him the old school bridge. If he proves he’s as good as we think he is then he will get more than $7 million pretty quick. If he’s not then we saved a bundle. It’s risky as if they are all good it will be hard to keep together, but if they are all that good then we are contenders. -
CANUCKS NEED HOCKEY PLAYERS TO BE A CUP TEAM
Amebushi replied to hockeygod77's topic in Canucks Talk
Before this topic is locked I would like to add that water is wet. Sometimes it is less wet and that is not good for washing, but it is better for times when you don’t want to be “as wet”. If it rained with dry rain Vancouver would be a nicer place to live. We don’t need hockey players we need dry rain. -
Great expectations can lead to bitter disappointment
Amebushi replied to BrockBoester's topic in Canucks Talk
I don’t think these questions are as black and white as the poll (except the last one). I think management and ownership are shooting for playoffs and will not be happy with less. I think JB has two years to make the playoffs and preferably make a decent run before he is fired. I think Green could be a sacrificial lamb if the team underperforms this season. May not deserve it, but that’s how I see it. If they really bomb, and the new acquisitions don’t help JB could be in trouble too. Tryamkin will never be a Canucks captain. Mark that down and I’ll happily eat a bunch of crow if I’m wrong. -
Panthers to retire Roberto Luongo’s No. 1
Amebushi replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I don’t hold anything against Lu, but his number is being retired where it should be. He was great here, his Leaving was not without reason. He is a Panther first and chose to end his career there. Maybe ring of honour for his contributions but number 1 should still be available. -
[Rumour] Puljujarvi to play in Finland until he is traded
Amebushi replied to The_Rocket's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
What are these skills that qualify him for a job somewhere better than Edmonton? His hockey skills have led to a qualifying offer that he has rejected and opted to sign in Finland. What I see is a kid that isn’t able to go anywhere else in the NHL until 2024 or when Holland says he can. His play and his attitude will not draw any great offers from other teams. His best bet would be to fire his agent, apologize and play some decent hockey. Good players can demand trades. IMHO he is a good player and is suffering from being drafted by Deadmonton. This doesn’t change the facts...he could make millions of dollars and likely get the trade he wants if he would just show up and play to some kind of NHL level. Holding out should (and looks likely that it will) just lower his stock even more. When life gives you lemons you can complain or you can go find some vodka and make the best of it.
