  1. I’m with what appears to be the consensus here. Overall we need to stay the course. I don’t believe that Ghost or even EK are the players we need. We have strong Centers (EP and Bo) decent goaltending and one first line winger. While I’d love to see another superstar in Canuck colours I don’t expect the price to be in line with what we need now. One bug splash in free agency may be enough to get into the playoffs, it doesn’t remake the entire defence core. We need at least one high level winger, an actual top defence pair and a real partner for Hughes as well. Hughes May be a top Dman but he isn’t right now. I strongly think we should sign Edler short term, get rid of as much baggage as we can for whatever we can get. 4th founders are worth more than some of our “trade chips”. Play guys like Virtannen in offencive roles where he will either blossom or at least get a few more points by accident and increase his trade value at the deadline. Big acquisitions should only be made once we are truly competitive and stay the course. Always watch the secondary UFA market and trades with cap strapped teams but only pull the trigger if it’s an obvious win with only short term pain. I want to see a true contender in 2-3 years, not one and done this year.
  2. While I selected Demko I think he is going to be the future. I really don’t want to get rid of either yet. Marky finally put up number one goalie like numbers over a season. Demko has played well and is progressing and developing. Let’s see what he can do with more starts and keep an eye on DiPietro before dumping any more tenders.
  3. Duchene would not be my first (or second) target, but at the right price he would give this team a big boost. 7X7 is probably a pipe dream (I put yes, but for less term and money) but if he would sign for less than that you take it. Hockey is a money all sport. Points per dollar is the metric we should be tracking. Ericsson is. It a terrible player and still fits on an NHL team, just not at his cap. Think where the oilers could be if Jesus and his deciples had left a little room for defencemen or good two way players. JB should put an offer in for every decent FA...just not at max term and dollars. Probably won’t work but you never know, many teams have no cap to spend and we do have some exciting youth on the team. Hughes, feeding Duchene, Boesser and Petey on the power play does sound interesting
  4. Nylander is a regular season performer? I saw him sitting out for a good chunk of the year. I’ve seen him jump out of the way of pucks, float around and act entitled. I’m a big fan of the type of players the Canucks are drafting lately. Character players on and off the ice. If you are too good to sign a deal with the leafs and join your team I don’t want you. I know he has skill, and bet he will put up much better numbers next year but still don’t want him. Same reason I wouldn’t want Marchand on this team. 100 point player 0 point person. I’d rather lose with a group I respect than win with slime. Just my $.02 but I would rather leave the leafs with their cap problems than take on Nylanders overhyped over paid ass.
  5. How does Vancouver get an entire media outlet to pump our tires? New rumour...Rangers GM offers up a first, two seconds, an A prospect and a free lifetime supply of Kraft Dinner for Louie Ericsson! You heard it here first. No to Zaitsev and that contract, I’d take a year of Marleau if it comes with a decent pick or contract. As to double flamingo, I’d rather do unspeakable things to Roseanne than watch him disgrace the Canucks jersey. I think the best way to help out good buddy Dubas would be to take Marner off their hands.
  6. Uggh, that hit wasn’t clean. Was it suspension worthy? Maybe...penalty for sure. Where is the line? No one has a clue what is “a hockey play” and what will get the book thrown at you. I really hope they get rid of of everyone in the dops and hire some people that know how to be consistent with these calls. If you are going to suspend that as a hit to someone in a vulnerable position then Marchand needs to be suspended for punches to the head, slew foots and many many more. Keep it clean but be consistent ffs
  7. I like Boeser, as a player and off the ice. The guy oozes what being a Canuck is all about. That being said I don’t think he has earned an 8X8 contract. Bo is the straw that stirs the drink and he didn’t get 8. Brock hasn’t played 82 games yet (not saying it’s his fault or injury prone, just the fact that injuries have occurred). I am a believer that great teams can be built with a roster of people payed what they are worth. A balance from top to bottom must be made. For example if BB is payed 8 million to score 60 points someone else is going to have to overperform their contract in order for the team to succeed. I see no problem in offering him the same contract as Bo. They bring different tools but still fill their role well. If he is as good as hoped he will still be a steal for a couple years and then be available for a big pay day as a UFA. If the league is getting younger, ELC’s are what make or break teams then why pay $$$ for a couple extra years down the road. Turnover is important to a team, it is important that we don’t handcuff ourselves with too many over priced or over term contracts. Same reason I don’t want EK here.
  8. I wouldn’t think getting Lucic to waive the clause to come to Vancouver or for the ED would be too hard. Edmonton is a crappy place to live, a crappy team and he clearly needs a change of scenery. Seattle is going to get the LVK treatment and will be a great place to play. They won’t pick him, but I think he should do a happy dance if they do.
  9. Haha ok fair point. I was thinking more along the lines of you can be creative offensively and not worry about getting crushed...we will let someone expendable take care of that for you. But who wouldn’t be excited to play with Luke Schenn????
  10. I know this is a stupid proposal but it’s golf season and I watched the Bruins win again last night so grant me a little homer dreaming. I wonder if he would consider a 1 or 2 year deal at max dollars. Promise him a defensive minded partner that can handle any heavy stuff (think Schenn or similar) let Edler and Taney handle the defensive end of the rink and then put out BB, EP, (literally anyone that screen a goalie) with EK and Hughes on the power play. Canucks get scoring and a true mentor for Hughes while we have cap space. EK gets to fully rehab and pad his stats in an offensive situation and then return to free agency with extra $$ in his pocket and time to cash in on a longer contract. Before you bash this too too hard I know he would never do it. Life is short injuries happen and this is his shot to get max term and money...but I want shiny things.
  11. Just because someone can play a sport stoned and succeed doesn’t mean that the drug was helping. How much better could Theo have been with a clear mind?
  12. We must have watched a different game. The calls were not exactly even, but the Blues only played 22 minutes of hockey tonight. For the record, I hate the Bruins and the refs, called @canuck73_3 a troll and still think you are wrong on this one. The penalties were weak but not totally made up. Good teams find a way to win. Getting outplayed at both ends of the rink for two periods is not the refs fault. Still hoping for a Boston loss but we should at least be able to be objective in a game the Canucks aren’t in can’t we?
  13. I’m with you Alf. I don’t want to see Boston win again, but much prefer it to the Leafs.
  14. Well this sucked, but the better team is winning this one. Hoping for a better game plan from the Blues in game 2.
  15. No, gotta keep it “fair”. If they score on it I predict a 5 on 3 for Boston though.
  16. I can’t argue that at all, I’m all for having a pest or two but they crossed the line too many times. On a note in this game, if the Blues can’t change something here quickly it won’t matter what the refs do...Boston is just out playing them
  17. I’ll agree with you in principle, and Kesler and Burrows certainly prove your point well. Calling the Sedins out for diving though, really? I recall watching them get slashed, tripped and punched in the face with no call. They were all class. Some say too soft, but divers, I’m going to continue with, “if it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck...might be a duck.” Perhaps the bruins chat room needs a new member?
  18. Honestly, I say go for it. I can’t deny the skill the Bruins have and the ability to step up on the playoffs. Claiming that the reffing is “fair and unbiased” and that the Bruins don’t embellish is a stretch. Go ahead and cheer for a team you like, but I’m going to call it the way I see it.
  19. Well, I don’t really care who wins, but my hate for Boston is not gone and I like cheering for an underdog. I wasn’t going to watch any, but I’ve messed up my ankle and am stuck on the couch...Let’s go Blues!
  20. You have to think they want to gift wrap a cup for Jumbo Joe. I don’t even care who wins, it’s becoming a joke.
  21. You bring a valid point...maybe Kadri could teach someone how to become human slime in practice. A little elbowing practice or something? If not I’m AOK watching Columbus wipe the floor with whatever is left of the team that gets through this game 7.
