  1. Motte > Roussel a steaming pile of poop > Louie Improved bottom 6 for sure
  2. It’s St Pattie’s Day. We have a shiny new toy to either celebrate or blame things on. I’ve got a good feeling about this one.
  3. I haven’t made a prediction in a while so here goes...I’m still an optimist! Canucks 6 Senators 3 GWG - Shotgun Jake <—- he is due
  4. I think this is a bit of a loaded question. What the decision boils down to is currently Schmidt vs Myers as they are the only two on the roster that meet the requirements for an unprotected defenceman. If that’s the case, then Myers is left for Seattle. Will they take him? Probably, I would certainly pick him over Holtby or whatever is left of our forward corps. The real question is can we make something happen to improve our team another way. I like Myers and what he brings to the team, but feel at 6 mil per season it won’t be that difficult to replace. Hughes, Schmidt and Juolevi fill 2-3 of our left side D (Schmidt can play both sides.). Is there a fit somewhere for picking up a righty from a team against it with too many NMC? Can we make a trade for someone that doesn’t need protecting so we can keep Myers? Is Tryamkin coming back? So many questions between now and expansion draft. We will lose a player, but I feel the need to include that we will lose a contract. If there is a move to be made that gives better choices you have to take it, but some teams will lose much more than Myers at 6 million. I am more concerned about Motte than him. Given our lack of depth at D I hope they figure something out, but Myers is not the right fit for our current set up moving forward at that price.
  5. I’m not happy being short handed but I’d rather take two minutes for landing three uppercuts than the inevitable 5 on 3 because McMeFirst got looked at sideways.
  6. I suspect there will be less over all movement at the TDL than we are used to but there will still be some. I could see Sutter getting a decent return. Always remember that teams buying believe they will win. This means that third is a late one (if it goes to plan). A second rounder for him is not completely absurd. Benn is exactly the type of player a cash strapped team would like to add as depth for a run. Wont bring back a huge return but something is better than nothing. Virtanen is still one that moving scares me. It isn’t that he has proven anything worth keeping him here it’s the fear that he will change teams and figure it all out. He has so much ability that just doesn’t seem to work here. I doubt it ever will come together here but very well might elsewhere. I’d be open to trading him but nor just a low pick. Either a prospect or quality pick or both.
  7. While I love what I see from Motte I don’t know that he belongs in the top 6. I see this as a different issue. Our second line is always given matchup duties because our third and fourth lines can’t contain people like McDavid but Bo can. Motte would fit fine on Bo’s wing as it is, but preferably we find a true 3rd line Center (think prime malhotra) and Motte would be even better. He is scoring because the competition he is facing is lower due to Bobtaking the hard minutes. I think if you moved him up he would keep checking but the scoring would dry up against better dmen
  8. I openly admit my anti-Edmonton bias here. Klefbom is a solid D-man that I would not mind seeing in a Canucks jersey one day but I think Sergachev is a level above. One of those arguments that won’t likely be settled for a few years but I would rather face Klefbom than Sergachev any day.
  9. Oof, and there is people complaining about drafting OJ. Imagine Subban and his boat anchor out there with Louie and no ox to drag them around.
  10. I’m definitely in the let the chips fall where they may camp I expected more than I’ve seen so far, but there is still some time left. See what the guys we have can do. If they gel as a team we may have something special. Don’t forget the possibility of a late season addition of Podz or Tryamkin or both. They are active in the KHL and should be available for a late season push. Injuries have already happened and will continue to happen so sticking with our youth for depth will allow some cap flexibility near the deadline. Either way I don’t believe this is the year for any more big moves. You can hate on Benning but sometimes decisions have to be made. I was (and still am) a huge Tanev fan, but at the contract he got in Calgary with his age and injury history I see him being a liability sooner than later. Toffoli was always a rental and Marky is a victim of the expansion draft. Do you build your team for the cup you want to contend for in a couple years or for this year regardless of actual situations? If it comes together great, if it doesn’t then we will have real knowledge of what we have in Hogs, OJ, Rafferty, Zack and others. I think a short season with no fans (and our first rounder) right before an expansion draft is a great time to do a big time talent evaluation. Let the vets contracts expire, bring in the Russians and let’s see what we have
  11. Wait, are we moving away from the original plan? Drop pass at center, give away at the blue line...records for most shorties against don’t come without effort. On second thought, if Meyers is in front of the net there is even less chance he get back to take another penalty in the defensive end. I kid I kid. Special teams need some work and this is far from the worst idea I’ve heard. Personally I would not be gifting Myers time on the power play until he can learn to stay out of the box. I’d give Zack the opportunity first as at least he gives a real effort out there.
  12. Thank the hockey gawds that Edmonton didn’t get Sergachev is all I take from that. Imaging what McMefirst could do if there was an actual defenceman to cover for him or pass him the puck.
  13. I think tonight will boil down to a couple things. Ottawa is going to come out ready to play and try to score quickly. If we can shut that down it’s ours to lose. Other than that we must get some chemistry back to our top line. Sutter can’t carry the team all season...or can he???
  14. Did you read the second one? Here is a direct quote from it, “If you're a hardcore fan of the team, think back on which other former players or coaches of ours are disliked by other fans in the seats around you at Rogers Arena. There aren't many, hey? Bertuzzi is for sure in the top 3” link for full article if you want to read it https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/opinion/todd-bertuzzi-is-a-hated-former-canuck-3256327
  15. I definitely don’t hate him. One of my all time favourites. There was an article in Vancouverisawesome talking about how he is hated with a follow up refusing to apologize.
  16. I agree with pretty much all of this. The defence is definitely better than last year and I would easily say above average league wide. Goaltending could be debated until we see what Clarke can do with Holtby and how Demko handles more starts. One comment to add is how the changes to D can effect both goalies and forwards. In our own end, less chances and fewer odd man breaks (likely scenarios given a better defence) puts less pressure on goalies to steal games. Our forwards can look to receive good outlet passes, quality zone exits and entrances become possible when you have a mobile defence. We don’t have to match up skill for skill with the big 4 in Toronto when we can $&!# them down with our second and third lines, then light them up with Petey, Brock and JT (Virtanen tonight). This is a team sport and a good chunk of our weakness has been improved. Just think how many goalies the Canucks have made look like all stars over the years.
  17. You are definitely correct Blunt. I love cheering for an underdog and with the way this team is looking we shouldn’t be one. So I may have stretched the truth a bit regarding “every media outlet”. As long as Captain Bo can keep McJesus off the board this shouldn’t be a bad start to the season.
  18. Well let’s see how this looks on paper: They have two big name stars - McDavid and Drai We have two lesser known but talented stars - Petey and Hughes We have a much better defence we have other players that can score Every media outlet seems to believe that Vancouver will finish last. (Kinda like they did last year...) I don’t care, hockey is back. Go Canucks Go!
  19. One period to play. Do they want to give up or do they want to give it their all? This is not out of reach but we are going to have to see more than we have so far to win it.
