  1. Right, there is absolutely no correlation between mental health issues like addiction, depression, suicide and global economic collapse...I believe the term I am supposed to use is woosh. Am I doing this right. Don’t worry I’m sure @spur1 will come confuse emoji this and have nothing intelligent to say. Just because there is a pandemic doesn’t mean other things are not happening too. The tinfoil hat crowd gets in trouble for not fact checking everything but here is the “lock everything down” group “researching” from a meme...stats are stats and these ones are incomplete at best.
  2. It seems you have a difficult time understanding basic math. On an average day in the USA approximately 7000 people die. On an event such as 9/11 you should (statically speaking) see a steep increase from the average. As the media only reports Covid deaths and doesn’t want to talk about total deaths (kinda like you) we don’t have any apples to apples comparisons to draw. For example it is possible that the disappearance of the flu, pneumonia and other respiratory related problems could cause a steep decrease in other areas. Or conversely mental health issues caused by restrictions, unemployment, business failures could lead to an increase in overdoses and suicides. I prefer to look at an entire picture rather than hyper focus on one area without considering outside factors. Unfortunately it appears that much of this data is unavailable so carry on claiming your moral superiority with such well thought out comments as woosh and the reposting of a meme. Why is it so hard to have a conversation? I get it...Covid is bad and the USA has really screwed the pooch. How does spreading fear and half truths help. How many people died yesterday? Why can we instantly know day by day how many died of Covid but not cancer, drug over doses or suicide? It seems like nothing except Covid counts anymore. 9/11 is nothing now because “last Tuesday” was worse. This is a pretty thoughtless way to approach it. Every life should matter, not just the ones that had Covid at their time of death.
  3. Flush! How is your one word answer answering the question? More one sided discussion. You ask questions but don’t answer any.
  4. How is this not different events? There are hundreds of events that spread this virus. Numerous outbreaks in different parts of the country, people sick for different amounts of time...Covid is a singular disease, but not an isolated incident...
  5. OK, incoming flames. These numbers are terrible and sad, but your headline is truly false. You are comparing numbers across the entire country with horrific events from a single location. the average day in the USA in 2017 saw 7708 deaths...that’s every single day in a non pandemic year. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/68/wr/mm6826a5.htm I am not trying to discredit the incredible mismanagement that has happened down there but claiming this as the deadliest day in history without taking into account that people probably died in places other than New York on 9/11 is telling only part of the story. I believe we will see some scary numbers when the totals for 2020 come out but this is not a fair statistic
  6. I know! Why would people who have poured their life savings, countless hours of their lives and literally everything they have into a business not just close the doors and walk away? Small businesses grow and trees and are easy to support, grow a client base. Besides all landlords are super supportive, cancel rent payments at a moments notice. Insurance premiums go away immediately upon a Bonnie Henry update and staff are SUPER excited to be laid off, asked to return and then laid off again. There is now logical reason anyone would try to keep a business open when they can simply close up shop. /s in case anyone didn’t get it
  7. It does, I don’t really have an argument there. My issues (and admittedly I’m clearly getting a little sensitive about it) are that I find myself lumped in with these people all the time. Refusing to wear a mask or social distance is dumb...but instead of punishing these people we are imposing more and more restrictions on the ones trying to listen. None of the partners are going to stop. There is constant gatherings. I know talking about schools is bad around here but it makes no sense...there are more people in and around a school than any logical person can agree with yet we are on a 0 person bubble for another month? I apologize for this rant which really has nothing to do with you, but I hope not to be considered an “anti-masker” conspiracy nut, I just disagree strongly with cancelling Christmas for everyone because of some covidiots
  8. Is there something to be gained by calling people names? I’m also curious if you can truthfully say that you have followed every rule at all times? Half the time I haven’t known what the rules are and now I am finding them nearly impossible to follow. Where I work has people all over the place not wearing masks (post secondary education) and no one enforcing anything. Everyone I know that is telling the loudest is also cheating the rules. Maybe you are the one that is but I strongly doubt it. No one outside of your house has visited in the last two weeks? Absolutely no unnecessary trips out? Not a single meal, beverage or activity has been done with anyone outside your household? I’m trying, but would be a liar to say I have complied. Do tell please who determines the folks going to your proposed covidiot island?
  9. This is a well thought out post. Businesses are closing their doors, all family gatherings are cancelled for Christmas. There are literally signs on the highway telling you to stay home. Which thesaurus are you using that doesn’t see this as at least a partial lockdown? It’s always interesting to read on the internet an endless stream of people telling others they are wrong without so much as a thought to add to it...it’s like children fighting, “Nuh uhh! You’re wrong! I’m telling Mom!” You may well be correct but I’ll never know based on this comment. At least the previous poster made an effort to have a point.
  10. So just to clarify, you don’t want to wish bad on anyone but hope they get a deadly virus? The judgement here is pretty thick. Perhaps some could take the high road and ask more questions...this issue is not even close to as black and white as you see it. Wear a mask, get the vaccine or move to the states!!! Come on, there is more constructive things to say than that. Masks are a pretty small ask in my opinion and I wear one everywhere as instructed, but there are some people (not nearly as many as are claiming) that can’t, I guess they should all move or die of Covid Take the vaccine...no! There has never been a vaccine that is mandatory and so far this is not worse than previous plagues such as polio. Until then I will retain my right to bodily autonomy until I feel safe to take it. Forcing things on people is not how a democratic society is run. I agree that the majority of people should (and eventually will) take it but threatening people to move out of the country and wishing a disease on them does not support your argument of not wanting to “wish bad” on them.
  11. Is it possible to have a third category? I don’t have a problem with masks. They are a small thing we can all do to help prevent the spread of a virus. If they don’t work, what did I lose? I am pro mask and anti lockdown. The more vulnerable should remain inside, have loved ones (who may restrict their movements voluntarily) while the rest of us carry on with normal (ish) life. I’m really tired of constantly changing rules that VERY few are actually following to the letter. Our experts are making decisions that strongly resemble the actions of first time parents almost a year into this. They close yoga but not dance, shut down some sports but not others. Gyms are ok, but don’t go to spin class. Masks mandatory everywhere except in a classroom...the list goes on forever and I’m expected to watch the news every day so my neighbors don’t call the snitch line and get me fined. Masks are one thing but the rest of this is a bit ridiculous. I don’t understand how hundreds of people in Costco is safe, I can go to a bar for a few drinks but dinner with Dad is just too much to ask. Pro mask, anti lockdown
  12. Hey fellow Canuck fans! I just want to give a shout-out to the mods on this page. They volunteered to moderate a forum about hockey and yet have stuck around to deal with a forum that talks about masks and vaccines more than the sport we all love. In addition, despite some very different opinions, the ability to hide behind a false name and all the stress of the season it is relatively civil in here. In other types of social media it’s like a war zone being dominated by crazy people (from both sides of every imaginable topic) but here I seem to be able to debate in a mostly friendly way. Thanks everyone! Now back to your regularly scheduled fighting about things well beyond our control
  13. This...right here. I am being told to put my faith in things like the government and Pfizer? Wackos have been refusing to vaccinate for things like polio amd measles for years. Where was the massive outcry there, how about the fines and demands for further restrictions? I know I’ll just get roasted again, but I will not be getting this vaccine in the immediate future. To those who do, I thank you. I will trust my immune system in the short term as it has been a hell of a lot more reliable to me than the government or massive drug companies for keeping up its side of a deal. Everyone can feel however they want, and I agree with Russ. His friends are insane. If people think I am because I want to see how this goes before assuming that there are not more side effects/long term implications/interaction with drugs im already on then you have that right. I’ve been called a murderer. I’ve been told my brain is melting, that I have no empathy for anyone and lost a few friends already but I’m still not doing it right away. Some will take it ASAP, many will wait a bit but in the end I’m pretty sure most will do it once it’s been around a bit. Putting a gun to my head (and many others) to force your ideas is not the great idea that some seem to think it is. Let us come to our own choices as making demands is just going to turn more relatively level headed people into conspiracy theorists.
  14. No problem from me, I don’t work at the health authority and don’t mind restrictions such as the ones you have listed. I’m hoping they don’t limit things like concerts and travel (as they have not required any of the currently existing vaccines before...polio doesn’t sound a lot better than covid) but if they do I’m willing to accept that until I feel comfortable taking it. I think a lot of people complaining about their rights haven’t considered the rights of others. For example I absolutely have every right to not wear a mask...I just can’t shop anywhere as the stores have a right to refuse service to anyone not wearing a mask. I will always believe in my right to choose what goes into my body and what doesn’t but your correct that every choice come with consequences
  15. They always have before...last time I checked none of the other vaccines are required by law, enforced in any way or causes restrictions to people. I fall into that middle ground. I’m not oppose to vaccinations, however I haven’t been able to find any information regarding long term side effects, particularly in regards to interactions with other drugs I need to take to ... you know, live. If you have the vaccine and it is effective then my choice to hold off a bit would not endanger you at all. Those with medical issues who can’t take it will be at greater risk due to the lower herd immunity but those vaccinated should be protected if it is effective. Why is it such an issue for others to disagree with lining up immediately for this. Even if I had no objections I wouldn’t want it right away. It will take time to get it to everyone...get the elderly, high risk, caregivers, front line workers and people who just plain want it first. What’s the big deal if some of us aren’t in a hurry to be a lab rat? I’m sure I’ll get it, like every other vaccine except the flu shot that doesn’t work anyway, in what possible way does that risk your life once you’re vaccinated?
  16. There is nothing transparent about the information we are being fed. Schools is definitely one where they are not admitting everything. People talk and word gets out but it’s being shut down. Other examples are in stores with infections. Small stores are shut down for cleaning where other locations are not. Two such examples here in Kamloops are in two McDonalds. One was forced to close however the Wal Mart it is located inside of (without any access without going through Wal Mart apparently needed no such safeguards. A second McDonalds had a case and simply closed the dining hall while spraying chemicals around. The drive through was open and several workers were exposed to the cleaning solution that was only supposed to be used by trained professionals...this was exposed as parents of the workers complained about the practice. Not all information is being released. Only growing case numbers and scary totals...but don’t worrry! Schools are “safe”.
  17. So schools are safe to remain open due to the unquestioned fact that children don’t spread the virus. A few people at a couple of universities seem to disagree. https://www.princeton.edu/news/2020/09/30/largest-covid-19-contact-tracing-study-date-finds-children-key-spread-evidence?fbclid=IwAR3J3vpOyHqreyFwDWgfg57W2Pci34biNqk4fces3sJ4ha3AmUp7zXEZlKU I continue to be vigilant as do most, but please folks don’t just agree with everything our government says without critical thinking and personal thought
  18. Thank you! This is one of the most thought out responses I have seen to anything through this pandemic. It is shining proof that people can discuss difficult topics with civility. Overall I agree with everything you said. While my opinion may be that schools should not be open if the risks are as high as they say I can understand and respect the fact that leaving them open allows others (such as health care professionals) can work and earn a living. My frustration is clearly part selfish...I don’t have children. This means when I come home I have no little fun factories to spend my time with. I have always had a very small close knit group of friends I spend most of my time with. The previous rules meant that I could follow them and stay reasonably safe. It annoys me that any household with children can interact with children, teachers and hundreds of people but I can’t see anyone except my wife. I admit this is a selfish approach but when hockey is being played at the arena (no I don’t play hockey, nor would I be going right now if I did) it seems wrong. Why can’t we all make decisions within some fair explainable boundaries of what is safe for us. I think 6 was enough...0 is draconian. I am generally a pretty level headed guy, but isolation is driving me nuts. Thanks again for a thought out response...I learned something today
  19. They will do anything not to close schools. This includes spreading misinformation about the spread of disease in schools, refusing to put anything about cases in schools on the news and also blaming teachers for anything bad that happens in schools. I am all keeping hospitals from being overloaded and saving lives, but please tell me what open schools do to save lives? How does free daycare prevent the spread of this disease? I don’t expect a response as I haven’t had one yet.
  20. And you are the person that can’t hold a civil debate. I don’t bring the virus anywhere. I’m sitting in my house alone and annoyed. I wore a mask at work all day because I don’t want a fine. I am for the risk of seeing my family because they are what is important to me. If I can’t see my family why the hell can kids go to school??? I want fairness across the board. Why do some have to give more than other “for the greater good”? You spout your beliefs without a single source as if you are the holder of all facts. Take your holier than thou crap and shove it. I want to protect all people equally. I wear a mask and follow the rules. Why don’t others? Why don’t kids have to wear masks in schools? Try answering a question for once instead of standing on a soapbox. More than many...how many more case in schools before it matters to you? Why is it ok for men’s hockey to be going on right now? I thought you were scared for our elders but gosh...gotta have hockey. I’m sick of one sided arguments. The rules as they sit make no sense and any rational person can see that. Keep making personal attacks and tell me what kind of person I am. I follow rules I don’t agree with for the greater good while you preach about how good you are.
  21. Do tell...what constitutes a “major” source? Since you are an expert, please share how many are acceptable?
  22. So just to clarify...no source of anything? I provided a valid source of MANY cases in schools. See I can use caps too. Your opinion is equally valid as mine but does not make it a fact. I have stats to prove a very low (0 cases in fact) of transmission in my house yet it’s closed. Please explain why so many things are closed while schools remain open? Children are absolutely not following the protocols around cohorts, masks Or sanitizing. If we are so concerned about everyone’s health they should be closed too. Why is my health being risked over this. We have proven that children can be educated online too.
  23. OK, now for a real scenario. Imagine not being able to visit your otherwise “spry” grandmother when she decides to kill herself rather than be locked down again. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/beta.ctvnews.ca/national/health/2020/11/19/1_5197140.html I get the need to protect people, but there is a point where it’s going to far. I for one would rather accept some risk (not fighting over masks, sanitizing etc) close some non essential things as needed but will fight for my right to see my family. Too far in either direction is simply wrong.
  24. OK, I cited a source for my comment...you say “but you’re wrong!!!” Regardless of what you believe there are cases in schools, and a lot of them. How do you explain the theory that they are not being transmitted there? Does your argument hold more weight if you wrote it in ALL CAPS? Please explain to me how schools are safe and masks are not required in a classroom please
  25. According to who? There are a LOT of “cases” in schools. Here is a link to Fraser health discussing it...doesn’t make the news yet here it is. https://www.fraserhealth.ca/schoolexposures#.X79Y8yTgHDs How do you explain that a thousand people without masks is safe but four around a table isn’t?
