Also, your 20 game mark is around the time that Gaunce is expected to be skating by (mid-November), so there's quite the pleasant logjam there. That 4th line LW spot is Gaunce's to lose when healthy IMO, especially considering how much Green likes him. Agreed on Burmistrov likely making the team.

I actually posted about this in the Tram thread last night - I seem to recall there being a poorly translated article somewhere in the prospects forum regarding the big man and why he left the NHL. In there his point was that after Goldy scored in the LA game, he couldn't understand why he sat - the same reaction as a lot of folks on these boards. Tram thought that if Goldy can score, he should play. Unfortunately, that isn't exactly what North American hockey is all about. Obviously your comment wasn't serious, but I thought that different mindset was interesting.

That's a case-in-point if I ever saw one. Almost inarguable.
-
If he ever comes back, I think it'll come after his three year deal is up with Avto. He was really complimentary of Green in the above interview, so that's quite promising. However, his comment regarding Goldy - if he scores, he should play - is not exactly a sentiment that is going to earn a player ice time in the NHL. In short, now is completely the wrong time. In three years, we may be beginning a real upswing, since I think that marks the arrival of Pettersson in the lineup, Gaudette with a year under his belt, guys like Bo, Stecher, Hutton, Boeser, Virt to be in their primes and established impact players (ideally), and he may considering giving North America another shot. Fingers crossed though - despite what I said, he was amongst my top three favourites to watch last year and I hope he returns

So far, pretty impressive!! Lots to be excited about for years to come. If he keeps it up, almost ppg... wow
-
Agreed - lesson learned by management, and one "mistake" looking quite salvageable thus far in preseason play

You know what else is ironic? The east coast can literally never meet the west coast, and don't start about the north and south ends of a landmass to try to argue.... so obviously tkatchuk was the better pick, and James Neal is a great person and moral saint. SMH man...
-
Who is this fancy "Iron-knee" player you speak of? Sounds suspiciously related to James Neal...

Sorry for not being clear - what I meant was, if Jonah had been given nine games with the big club to start the season, as reyezone was suggesting here: Then we would have had to waive an older player who IS eligible for waivers and may have lost them for nothing.
-
Extra forward on a line that's now Utica-bound! Likely just trying to get some of the guys that are heading down some solid practice time. Rodin will likely play tomorrow, I'm guessing all the guys who stayed home from China will play since they haven't played with higher quality vets yet.
-
Unfortunately waivers exist, and that would mean we'd likely lose a player for no reason. Jonah will get there in a couple years, especially if he has a few more nights like this one
-
If Jonah improves his foot speed, he'd make a great complimentary linemate for Pettersson - an intelligent, creative playmaker, very similar to Suzuki. Virt would be another great option on the right of those two in place of Boeser, especially if we wanted to spread talent amongst our top six. Boeser playing away from Pettersson would give us hopefully one borderline elite player on lines 1 and 2.

You know what, that's a good argument lol. I tried to come up with a clever rebuke, and admittedly Serge doesn't have too many quality LHD to beat out on Tampa's roster (him vs. Coburn as the third pairing LHD, plus he may make as 7/8 D) to make the team, but it's a very solid point nonetheless. Apologies for my somewhat aggressive reply. Personally, I think OJ will turn out to be better overall and more valuable in 5 years - think Ryan Suter (not quite as good) vs Tyson Barrie. But that's his ceiling, and he may not reach it. I just value intelligence over almost all other factors, and OJ has that in spades. We will have to wait and see.

You know, not necessarily (though I know that was in jest). Palmu - 5'7", 179 lb The most hated man in Canucks nation, Brad Marchand - 5'9", 181 lb Marty St Louis - 5'8", 176 lb Huge legs, low centre of gravity, hopefully a magnet for drawing penalties with his quick hands (see Exhibit A, Johnny Gaudreau). Recipe for success. Just food for thought.

Didn't listen, so I'm exposing myself to looking like an absolute moron here if I'm wrong. However, I'm guessing they're saying Pettersson could press for a spot with the big team next year. IMO there's no way he should even get a sniff of the NHL until AT LEAST one year in Utica, if not two. This kid, more than any of our other prospects, will need time to physically mature. Never mind how much weight he puts on, all gain in strength must be accompanied by development of coordination, skating, etc. He will also benefit greatly from LOTS of time on the smaller ice, playing with his future linemates potentially.

If sarcasm, well played, and ignore the rest of this post. If not, remind me which team eliminated Sergachev's Windsor Spitfires in the playoffs, and which player was the first star in game seven of that series, scoring the series winning goal?
-
Agreed, you worded that much more effectively than I - that's was what I was trying to get across. It would be nice to have him in Utica, where he's certainly a top-six forward. I want to see a playoff run from the Comets this year, and he'd help get them there.
-
Only problem with that is what does our fourth line look like? JR is right regarding developing offence. I don't particularly want Jake playing with Sutter and, say, Dorsett, when healthy. I think he needs someone that can create turnovers and get him the puck on breakouts so he can use his speed on the rush, and a playmaker to give him the time space to use his shot in the O-zone. So, Sutter and Rodin, with Jake on LW?
-
It's a tough situation, cuz Weircioch is almost guaranteed the 7th guy, and both Biega and Mac are valuable in their own right... Evan needs playing time, but would hurt more to lose. Glad it's not my problem. Also, Boucher is absolutely expendable at this point. Depth, yes, but not even remotely close to a roster spot compared to Rodin or even Brock
-
I want as much youth in Utica as possible, Jake especially, but the bolded is a really, really good point. Green did an extreme makeover on him and you can tell how much Jake respects him. Having the right coach could be key for Jake, and with Travis up here, theoretically distributing playing time a bit more evenly than in past years, it may just work better to have Jake playing 10-12 a night. In Toronto, Kapanen was arguably not quite NHL ready, yet played sheltered mins on the fourth line late in the season and was effective in a niche role. I believe that Caggiula started out on the fourth line in Edmonton as well, and had some key moments in the playoffs. Jake could follow the same path, having a niche role to begin with that allows him to continue playing the simple game Green drilled into him last year. Again, I prefer him in Utica, but I feel like both options will work out for Jake. The deciding factor will be asset management, depth, etc.

I'm worried about that as well... Depends though, people where saying that about Pedan last year, and then we ended up waiving him the day AFTER most teams made most of their roster moves and cuts, and he still cleared. I realize the difference between him and Pedan is massive though. It all comes down to that argument of "Well, if we send him down at the same time as all the other teams sending down their fringe, waiver-eligible NHLers, those teams won't have space to bring in another fringe guy" vs. "There are some terrible teams out there, like the Avs and Coyotes, who would doubtless jump on this guy". So what do you think happens, Alf? Biega waived, Weircioch and McEneny press-boxed until injuries strike? Perhaps Green even uses rotation and will rotate those guys into the lineup even when healthy?
-
IMO both Del Zotto and Weircioch are almost guaranteed top 7 spots, with both of them signing as free agents. Keep in mind that we haven't seen Weircioch play this year, except for the game this morning, which was after your post. His fitness and skating was excellent on the first day of camp, apparently he really worked on it a lot this summer. Could be a depth signing with size and a lot of motivation to succeed with his hometown team. That being said, I'm really impressed with McEneny, have been since early last season with Utica. I'm hoping he clears waivers successfully and has a solid two-way year with Utica. I'm looking for the Comets to improve and make a playoff push, and he'll be a big part of that

It's pretty interesting to see how being a good defender option opens up avenues towards offensive production. His goal last night wasn't a "special" play by any means, nor was his assist on the Carcone goal. In fact, 4 of his 5 points were from taking hard point shots or making simple first passes. But it seems like he's earned the trust of Coach Cull, so he's being rewarded with power play time, lots of minutes, etc, putting him in good situations to contribute on the scoresheet. More than his point production, I'm looking forward to seeing him play against a lineup that's primarily NHLers, fringe or otherwise, and see how he is defensively. That's all he needs to be good at it IMO, in the mold of Tanev, in order to make the NHL in the next few years. The offence will come naturally along the way. This guy is a beauty, from missing teeth to hair to compete level each shift.

Would you happen to have video, or a brief description? I'm sure Ryan Biech will post on his twitter whenever available as well.

For a skilled Euro, he really seems to have that North American heart JB loves so much. Workmanlike answers.
