  2. Two things: You said "Was top 6 scoring really a problem for us last season?" and then mentioned just 3 players, so top 6 scoring does seem to be a bit of a problem. Bo has averaged 26 assists a season (based on 82 games) for 5 seasons but in your scenario it sounds like he'll get even less offensive ice time and you still expect him to get his linemates "more chances" and "grow their offensive game". How exactly..? Do you think being a 3rd line center who is on the PK and gets less O-zone starts than the other 2 centers will put up more than 26 assists?
  3. 9-12.? Why would it be a range of games? Do you have a link to that rule? Doesn't seem to make sense.
  4. * All first- and second-year NHL/AHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection and will not be counted toward protection limits. Hughes will just have finished his 3rd NHL season in 2021 so he will need to be protected. So Stecher, Hughes and Juolevi would likely be the 3 d-men the Canucks will protect.
  5. It also looks like you "can't be bothered" to know anything about the NHL. Kreuger was the Oilers coach for the lockout season '12-'13 and the Oilers didn't make the playoffs that year. They made the playoffs and went to game 7 of the 2nd round under McLellan just 2 years ago. I get that most of CDC have blinders on when it comes to anything not Canuck related but c'mon man....2 years ago...you couldn't even remember that..?
  6. OEL last season had 14g-30a-44pts (8g-14a 5v5) and that's been his average for 3 seasons in a row Nurse last season had 10g-31a-41pts (9g-22a- 5v5) Their offensive #'s are nearly identical even though Nurse gets over 10% fewer Ozone starts and nearly half of OEL's points are on the PP. You're way off in the part of your statement that I highlighted.
  7. By "all" I'm guessing you mean Yakupov. Last time I checked both McDavid and RNH just had career seasons and Hall is the reigning Hart trophy winner. Even the later 1st round picks like Draisaitl, Eberle, Klefbom and Nurse have been consistent and/or improving year over year. I get people on CDC hating the Oilers but don't be a complete hockey knowledge moron about it.
  8. The first part I bolded explains why most of your posts are childish and wildly uninformed. And since you seem to be completely clueless about anything NHL related pre-2005 I'll post this about your "iconic sporting franchise" which I'm quite sure you literally had NO idea about. Yes Apollo, that's right. In the entire history of NHL teams the Canucks are only ahead of Carolina and Arizona in terms of winning percentage in the regular season. Carolina at least has a Cup to show for their 40 years. A good start by the Canes and Yotes next season and the Canucks could very well be at the bottom of this list by the end of October and be the worst franchise in NHL history.
  9. I was thinking this exact thing and not just about the Oilers, most of the teams that missed in the West are closer than a lot of people think. The Oilers fired their Coach and GM this season and everyone says it was a disaster of a season yet if they win just one more game a month Oct-Apr then they tie with the VGK in 3rd. This is literally the same scenario for Ari., Van., Chi., Ana., Min. Now I know not each of these teams is in the same boat in terms of personnel, coaches etc but I think it speaks to the parity in the league. I mean think about that...one win a month doesn't seem like an insurmountable obstacle even in April when teams only play 4-5 games max. Some of these teams could have a great season next year and finish with 90+ pts and still not make the playoffs, 90pt teams in the NHL are good teams, just rarely ever playoff teams.
  10. The way things are going in 2 years its likely that Boeser/Pettersson could be making as much or more than McDavid/Draisaitl.
  11. JB will likely be "handcuffed" into remaining patient. If they can turn Sutter and one of Spooner/Loui/Pearson into picks and replace them with young players either on ELC's or value contracts then that will help them for '20-'21 when Virtanen, Gaudette, Stecher and Markstrom (possibly Tanev) will need raises.
  12. The cap is supposed to be $83m next season so lets work with that #. The Canucks will have approx. $29m to "spend" and have to sign roughly 7-8 players for the NHL roster and 18 to fill out the 50 man roster. Lets start with the RFA's Granlund--pass Leivo--$2m AAV--$27m remaining Motte--$2m AAV--$25m remaining Boeser--$8m AAV--$17m remaining Goldobin--pass Hutton--$4m AAV--$13m remaining Pouliot--pass Teves?--$1.5m AAV--$11.5m remaining UFA's Edler--$6m AAV--$5.5m remaining Schenn--$1.5m AAV--$4m remaining I've estimated a bit high for a couple of guys but even if Boeser signs for $6.5m, Edler for $5m and Leivo/Motte for $1.5 each that only leaves $4m-$7m to go after FA's. JB is going to have to do some crafty dealing prior to July 1st if the Canucks are going to go after any of the big or even medium UFA's. And this is with Granlund, Goldy and Pouliot not being qualified and either being traded or just let go.
  13. So Skinner has a career year and gets a $275,000 AAV raise, Nelson has a career year and gets a $475,000 AAV raise, Karlsson is the top UFA available and gets a $1.5m AAV raise, Ferland has basically the same year he had last season and gets a $1.25M AAV raise...yeah...I guess you REALLY like Ferland or are just joking about signing the other 3 because your #'s are way off...Oh and if Boeser signs for an AAV of $6.2m he needs to fire his agent.
  14. Its not really that arguable. JV and BC have had almost identical starts to their careers, Upshall got off to a much better start but was a bit older. JV could have a higher ceiling or he could be what you see is what you get, its really 50/50 at this point. JV--187gp 28-24-52 -16 BC--187gp 23-26-49 -11 SU--187gp 40-48-88 +22
  15. Yes its amazing how reality can move the goalposts of expectations. Had you said to Canuck fans on draft day 2014 after JV was drafted that he'll become the next Brett Connolly or Scottie Upshall you would have been flamed and told you didn't know anything about hockey, and here we are almost 5 years later and that's the road JV seems to be on and most fans couldn't be more pleased with his "progress".
  16. No...but I'm pretty sure Canuck fans were hoping for a Tkachuk or Monahan type of a player when it looks like they got a Brett Connolly/Scottie Upshall type of player
  17. Yes the top 3 Oiler goal scorers account for half of their goals. For the Canucks its the top 4, not a huge difference. Other teams its even more so like Colorado and Boston etc. I don't think the Oilers are that unique in that department league wide.
  18. What the hell are you even talking about? I responded to a post about goal scoring and it wasn't even your post. Then you start whining about where the 2 teams are at in terms of the organization and re-building. You are literally the definition of a troll right now. You respond to a post that didn't even include you and then try and change the subject and then get all whiny. Trolling defined.
  19. Yes I agree those 2 have been used more, but I saw an interview with Hitch and he brought up a good point that neither of them really have any PK time and most of the PP time which is a bit "easier" on the body. And just looking at the forwards TOI throughout the league McDavid and Draisaitl are right in there within a shift or 2 of 30-40 guys including Bo and the whole first line in Colorado. RNH didn't show it last playoff but he could be the secondary scoring, hes at ppg clip right now and plays in all situations.
  20. That's a lame response and strawman at best. Forget where "experts" and "pundits" say the 2 teams "should be". Answer the question...if the Oilers are having scoring problems and have a similar goal total to the Canucks then why aren't the Canucks viewed as having goal scoring problems?
  21. The Canucks only have 10 more goals on the season than the Oilers and they have played 2 more games. If they both played 33 games they would be roughly 3-4 goals apart. So are the Canucks having goal scoring problems? and how are they going to solve that?
  22. Whats the old hockey adage..?...Show me a great goaltender and I'll show you a great head coach. I know Chiarelli gets a lot of flack and rightfully so but Mikko Koskinen is slowly becoming one of the stories of the year in the NHL and Chia took a ton of grief for signing him after 5 years in the KHL. I'd say MK has saved the season for the Oilers (so far) more than Hitch. 14 starts 10-3-1 2.20GAA (2nd in the league) .927SV% (4th in the league) He keeps this up until the new year and hes definitely in the Vezina convo. Not to mention hes given Talbot a push recently as CT had a rough start but is much better in his last 3-4 starts.
  23. Oh no...don't bring up facts or stats to the CDC regulars. They can't handle that, they don't just have Canuck coloured glasses they have Canuck coloured contact lenses and if you point out facts or stats they start spinning and back pedaling and will ultimately drop generic nonsense like "he's developing fine"...
  24. Hughes won't be signing the standard ELC though. When you sign in March out of the NCAA and play even just one game that burns a year of your ELC and counts as a full pro season. If Hughes does that this coming March then he will need to be protected in the 2021 expansion draft.
  25. Its 3 years pro. Demko is in his 3rd year pro and Gaudette, Dahlen, Juolevi, Gadjovich, Lind, Palmu and Jasek will have played 3 years pro by the end of the 20-21 season. If Hughes signs in March to burn a year of his ELC then he will need to be protected as well.
