All good. They will likely need to get to the cap floor that's why I said in another thread that Francis might offer "inflated" contracts to some UFA's. As an example, Pearson is a cup winner and would be recognizable to Seattle fans that have been following the Canucks. Could see him getting a similar contract to Toffoli with maybe a higher $ because it is an expansion team and despite what we saw from Vegas I think Seattle will struggle for at least the first couple of seasons.

Ugh. The post I replied to said they would have $20+m in cap space for NEXT SEASON. Lets call it $22m. JB wakes up the first day of free agency and has $22m to spend. EP and Quinn sign for $7m each $14m total. That leaves $8m. $2m for Demko $2-$3m for other RFA's Leaves $2-5m depending on which RFA's are signed. Raises to previous contracts have no bearing on what I posted.

Kesler fans will like this one. The Canucks played 17 games in the bubble last year. The Canucks will play their 17th game of the season this week on Thurs. against the Flames. So I thought I would see their record and if there was a trend if I took the last 17 games of 19-20 and added the bubble games and this seasons games to see what the #'s show. For arguments sake I'm giving them a 1-1 record for the next 2 games (5gf-5ga) which puts them at 7-10 19-20 final 17 games 6-9-2 54gf 62ga -8 Bubble 10-7 48gf 45ga +3 20-21 first 17 games 7-10 54gf 65ga -11 23-26-2 156gf 172ga -16 3.05gf/g 3.37ga/g The 5 months off and being in the bubble gave them a bit of a bump but the last 17 of 19-20 and first 17 this season look eerily similar.

The next 9 games will likely determine the course for the season and could very well determine who the coach and/or GM are come March 1st. 9 games before a 3 day break Feb.26-28. 7 at home CGY x 3, WPG x 2, EDM x 2 2 on the road TOR, CGY Possible outcomes: 3-6. Season is all but over in terms of playoffs. Green and staff likely fired. JB on a very hot seat. 5-4. Season hangs in balance, not good but not over. Green and JB hang on for another month. 7-2. Season back on track. CDC loves Green and there is talk of an extension. JB is seen driving top down with shades on the Burrard bridge on a sunny March 1st morning.

The logic behind letting Tanev, Markstrom, and Toffoli walk
GritGrinder replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
EP is on pace for the Barzal contract or slightly better if he can get back to his PPG pace, 3x$7m+ as a bridge deal. Hughes is a conundrum, he could very well lead the league in assists and lead all dmen in points but be a total defensive liability. If he does end up leading both or in the top 2-3 of both then I think the same sort of 3x$7m+ as a bridge deal is likely. But leading the league in assists as a 21yrold dman could make some GM's ponder an offer sheet and then who knows. -
The logic behind letting Tanev, Markstrom, and Toffoli walk
GritGrinder replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
I get that Tanev had his fair share of missed games due to injury but the 4year term as a reason not to re-sign seems a little misguided. Schmidt is a year and half younger than Tanev but is signed for 4 more years after this season so when their contracts end each player will be roughly the same age and Schmidt is making nearly $1.5m more per season and has also missed a # of games due to injury over the last few seasons. -
Wow you really like question marks even when some of the sentences you ended them with are not even questions. Seattle will need to get to the cap floor, fans in Seattle will know Pearson from following the Canucks Francis could easily offer him 4 years and $20m and make him an assistant captain. This isn't last summer, fans will be in the stands come October and quite a few teams will need to spend to the cap floor. Calm down, learn how to use punctuation properly and realize you're freaking out over a UFA coming off 2 career seasons that might get a $1m raise.

Show me one UFA in the history of sports that sets career highs 2 years in a row and then takes a pay cut. I don't care if its a pandemic or not; I could easily see Seattle offering Pearson 4 years and $20m. A cup winner that Seattle fans will know from following the Canucks and Seattle will need to get to the cap floor. My god some of you on here freaking out the Pearson might get a $1m raise from a GM out there is really weird.

Pearson had a career best 45pts last season in just 69 games and would have set a career mark for goals and assists in a season if not for the cancellation. He's off to a good start this season and is on the same 24 goal 48pt pace (82games) that would match/break career highs. He turns 29 in the off-season and its his first time as a UFA so the contract he signs will be the last big one he gets. He's currently making $3.75m AAV so after setting career marks 2 seasons in a row i'd say $5-6m is what he'll be asking for and some GM will give it to him over 4-5 years and have a nice 2nd line player.
