  1. If they put a cap on the season and then took 2-3 weeks off and then started the playoffs would be wild. Imagine if they announced that once each team has played their 72nd, 73rd, 74th, 75th (whatever # they decide on) game then thats the standings for the playoffs. Would make the next 10 days or so quite a ride.
  2. The league-wide injuries to top players keep piling up...makes the race for the Pacific even closer.
  3. Week-to-week is vague...for some players that have recently been "week-to-week" its been anywhere from 2-6 weeks.
  4. Never mind ruining the playoffs, don't forget that the salary cap is tied to revenue. If there are dozens of games that are played without attendance then that's going to drastically affect the revenue which will in turn affect next seasons salary cap. Friedman just said it could actually go down.
  5. SAN JOSE, CA - Sharks Sports & Entertainment is today announcing an update to events scheduled at SAP Center at San Jose through April 1, 2020. All three San Jose Sharks games (March 19 vs. Montreal, March 21 vs. Boston and March 29 vs. Arizona) will be played as scheduled at SAP Center but will be closed to the general public. Admission to games will be limited to home and visiting club personnel, approved credentialed media and broadcast partners, essential club and arena staff, and NHL officials. All three Sharks games will be broadcast on television on NBC Sports California and via audio feed on the Sharks+SAP Center app, 98.5 FM KFOX and the Sharks Radio Network. The same policy will apply for the San Jose Barracuda games scheduled for March 17 vs. Colorado and March 22 vs. Bakersfield. All the NHL/NBA teams will follow this policy for the rest of March/season. Its only a matter of time before its decided/announced. By the weekend is my guess.
  6. The NCAA just announced that none of the March Madness games will have fans. Limited to staff, media and family members. That's huge. The NHL and NBA can't be far behind...the MM games will be weird with no fans.
  7. Definitely the roster, so you can thank Benning. Its no secret that the 2 players that have had the biggest impact (outside of Markstrom) have been Miller and Hughes who have 35 of the 41 more goals the Canucks have scored up to this point.
  8. No its fine but to me its like saying "the Canucks are doing better this year because of luck", there are no stats/data for luck or for why a team would be streaky. I like stats and data. Here's a bit more on the +/- goals for the teams year over year that shows more. After 69 games last season the Canucks goal differential was -30 After 69 games this season the Canucks goal differential is +11 a difference of 41 goals even though they have given up the same amount of goals (217) The Canucks have improved by 13pts 65 last year and 78 this year After 70 games last season the Oilers goal differential was -32 After 70 games this season the Oilers goal differential is +10 a difference of 42 goals and the Oilers have given up 16 fewer goals (229-213) The Oilers have improved 14pts 69 last year and 83 this year. The Canucks have improved based almost exclusively on their offensive improvement (Miller and Hughes). The Oilers have improved in large part by lowering their goals against by nearly 8%. (Tippett)
  9. So do we see Domingue in one of the next 2 or does Demko start in back-to-backs? And if so which game does he get? You'd figure they would start him against the Coyotes, they are a former team and the likely "easier" opponent. Although with the Canucks losing to Arizona and beating Colorado just last week who's to say who would be the better choice for LD to start against. Just go Demko in both and if he tires out and breaks down against a depleted Avalanche squad and loses then CDC will have plenty of fodder to go after Green, Benning etc.
  10. Haha...yeah I've been trying to be nicer on here. I didn't necessarily mean that Toffolli is a similar player to Hayes/Kreider just the same age and place in their careers. I do think Hayes is overpaid and the jury is still out on Kreider but as I mentioned in another thread there are GM's out there that will offer TT 6-7 years at $7m. The likely offers will come from Bergevin, Sakic, Guerin and possibly Botterill and Poile. If the Canucks are offering less term AND AAV then I don't know if TT takes the "hometown" discount in a home he's barely been in.
  11. You're underpaying 3 players who are signing their last big contract and coming off career years. Markstrom will get way more term and an AAV close to 6.5m-7m on the open market. Toffolli will sign a similar deal to Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider 6-7 years at $7m Pietrangelo is going to get way more than a $500k AAV raise I don't care what the term is. He's a SC captain and will set career highs in goals and points this season an AAV around 9 sounds about right. So you're off by about $4m-$5m. Not to mention the fact that that you think you'll get EP and Hughes for a combined 14m-18m whens it more than likely over 20m.
  12. With the WHO announcement this morning and actions being taken in Europe and a couple of US cities/regions in regards to cancelling large crowd events I can't see how the NHL and NBA finish their seasons unless they play with no fans in the stands. Not sure how long of a postponement each league could afford before the seasons have to be cancelled but that's pretty much where we are at.
  13. In the last 3 1/2 months alone look at the totals below. Nov. 21 45 saves against Nashville JM Dec. 12 43 saves against Carolina JM Dec. 28 49 saves against the Kings JM Feb. 12 49 saves against the Blackhawks JM Mar. 10 45 saves against the Isles TD The odd part is all of those teams are either out of the playoffs or bubble teams. Not exactly the NHL's best which is an additional part of the "serious problem" you mention above. I took a further dive into the shots against totals and you can see why Markstrom (goaltending) "stole" so many games for the Canucks this season. The league average for shots against in a game is 31.5. The Canucks record when they give up 32 or more shots per game is 17-4 when Markstrom starts 7-5-1 when Demko starts. 24-9-1 overall. As the season has progressed the shots against totals are getting higher and the wins are getting harder to get. That's not sustainable as the playoff races ramp up.
  14. The price for Tyler Toffoli keeps going up. If he keeps up his current pace for the last 13 games then some GM out there will offer him $7m x 6yrs. My guesses at the most aggressive suitors are Bergevin, Guerin and Sakic (Botterill and Poile as dark horses). Can JB afford that kind of contract?
  15. Gonna be that guy... Elias Pettersson has gone pointless in 26 games this season. Canucks are 7-16-3 in those games.
  16. 2 things stand out for the Oilers as a team and Tippett and his "style" "system" whatever you want to call it is a big reason. Only 1 losing streak of 3 or more (0-3-1 so they still managed a point). 7-1 in the second half of back-to-back's this season. By comparison the Canucks have 5 losing streaks of 3 or more. 4-4-1 in the second half of back-to-back's
  17. 3 1/2 weeks to play Edmonton 83pts Toronto 79pts Calgary 79pts Winnipeg 78pts Vancouver 76pts Montreal 71pts Ottawa 62pts Odd stat...with Ottawa's 12OTL's they only have 2 more regulation losses than Montreal, 4 more than Winnipeg and 5 more than Vancouver/Calgary.
  18. The German and Austrian hockey leagues cancelled the remainder of their seasons today. If it gets a LOT worse in the next month or so then I could definitely see them cancelling or delaying the playoffs. Watch the Canucks go on a heater and get one of the division spots and then have the playoffs cancelled. It would be the Canuckiest.
  19. Its a bit early on for this death knell...but with 3 games in 4 including a b2b on the road Thu./Fri, if they lose the next 3 in regulation then the 18-wheeler is clearly headed for the cliff...
  20. They said Markstrom would be "re-evaluated in 2 weeks"...that was 2 weeks ago so I suspect that re-evaluation is today/tomorrow and we should have the "verdict" on the season by the weekend. I say verdict because lets be honest, Demko isn't going to get this team across the line in terms of making the playoffs.
  21. They said on the HNIC broadcast that he had the flu and that its been going around the team, might explain the Oilers last couple of games relying on the goalies to bail them out. Oh and if 15pts in 8 games is "invisible" I hope all the Canucks are "invisible" for the next 14 games.
  22. Visual Hardworking Effort: The Coaching Life of Willie Desjardins...in bookstores this summer.
  23. Was Green the coach between Dec. 19 and Feb. 2? We both know the answer to that question. Can you explain the teams NHL best 14-3-1 record during that time? Did they abandon Greens systems and philosophy in those 45 days and return to them recently for reasons unknown?
