  1. Honestly didn’t look that static just Petey and Chiasson couldn’t handle the puck and that wasted so much time
  2. Yah good news is if we win tonight we’re just as good starting behind as starting ahead by winning %.
  3. Are our best records against the Blackhawks and Blues? We always seem to beat those central division opponents as well. Imagine how much better our record would be if we were in the central division lol.
  4. Kirk's was a huge moment that saved the Canucks season. No save will ever top it most likely. However, I feel like you're forgetting a couple incredible saves that rival Demko's scorpion. Exhibit A: Markstrom's best save of his career, and I think this might be my favourite save of all time regardless of how big the moment was. Exhibit B: Probably Luongo's best save as a Canuck, and he had many of them. Game 6 of Round 1 vs LA. That series was full of incredible saves by Luongo including this goal line beauty in game 1 OT: We've been blessed as a franchise with absolutely unforgettable saves by so many different goalies throughout the years. There's probably very few franchises with 2 of these types of unbelievable saves...and these are 5 of them right off the top of my head.
  5. Yah, it would be great if he works out and is able to be an elite shutdown defenseman like Tanev was. Luckily for us though even if he still doesn't work out, defensive D are easier to find on the open market than offensive D and we have that locked down for the next 6 years. Our right side depth actually looks better at this point than our left side depth though. It's a huge dropoff after Hughes and OEL, while Burroughs has proven to be a very capable D on the right side, then we have Schenn, and Bowey also looked good in the preseason. It would be great if we were able to have a shutdown D on our left side so a guy like Schenn doesn't have to play his off side. After OEL and Hughes we have Rathbone (who needs some refinement on his defensive game), and the Hunt who doesn't belong in the NHL. I think if anything, that might be something we look to get before the trade deadline. Also, do we really have any prospects besides Rathbone who is a LD?
  6. We have Bubble Demko, and we have Scorpion Demko. What more can a fan of hockey ask for?
  7. Funny thing is I totally thought it was tonight as well, but then I read your post and was like what??? I swear yesterday I checked the schedule and they were playing tonight and then Sunday.
  8. Ok one more thing and then I might take a break on gushing over OEL lol. This graph shows all the Canucks defenders playing without OEL compared to him playing without them. Seeing how close all the blue boxes are show how much he elevates every other defenseman on the roster to his level. Look how much better he makes every single defender on the team. Currently Myers and him are the only two players on the Canucks with over a 50% xGF% on the team. Hopefully, as the team is able to get in a groove on offense, more of the team can join them there, but also push him and Myers from 53% xGF% to somewhere over 60%. With how poorly the offense has played so far, to have the best expected goals on the team while playing 40% of the game against the toughest matchups, this pairing has been one of, if not the best in the NHL analytically so far this season.
  9. Kevin Woodley's interview on the people's show yesterday was one of the most insightful interviews I've heard in a long time on Canucks radio. He talked a lot about analytics and how the Canucks can produce more offense especially on the powerplay. He said that the Canucks are the worst team in the NHL at generating off broken plays. A big thing about the Oilers power play is that they create out of the chaos not allowing the PK to reset. The Canucks on the other hand he said are very good at winning puck battles out of the chaos, but then they try to send it back to the point to settle it down again rather than creating down low after regaining control which allows the PK to reset which makes complete sense. I know someone earlier mentioned how McDavid said that coaching goes a little way, but it's on the players to improvise, and I believe that's exactly what he's talking about in this situation. He also said at 5 v 5 that the biggest rise in offense in the last two years come from passes behind the net or at the goal line either being in clean plays like the two goals in regulation for us last game, but also creating that chaos and getting greasy goals like Pearson almost got last game, but it hit off the post. That's something the Canucks were barely doing before last game, but in the second and third period that night they were doing a ton of that which made Canucks dominate the expected goals metric at like 80% in those two periods. This is one area of the game that Garland really excels at. He controls the goal line and behind the net so well, and putting him on that first line last night showed how effective he can be with finishers on the ice right in front.
  10. Tyler Myers defensively compared to Chris Tanev so far this year. Who woulda thunk it?
  11. Not just that...before the Myers clear he had another huge block, and then scrambling around he just barely missed blocking the shots by Panarin that Demko made the save on. Guys a beauty in the defensive end.
  12. Yah, Shorty is up there in the top tier of commentators with Gord Miller (my personal favourite commentator) and Chris Cuthbert (although I think he was better when calling games in the early 2000s and he's also a much better football commentator). As much as Hughson was beloved, he's never had the ability to consistently call games like these three. And that's coming from a person who grew up with Hughson and his unforgettable calls of the 2007-2012 era. There'll be no rival to his "GREAT SAVE LUONGO!", however overall these three call a more exciting game than anyone else.
  13. Plus he already has two goals as well...more than Pettersson despite being a D man. His shot isn't the best in the league, but it is a lot stronger than year 1. Also, shots from the point are always better if accurate. Look at OEL, he as a good shot, but it's because it is a very accurate wrister. The slapper isn't in his game really at all. He had 20 goals one year only shooting wrist shots from the point.
  14. I usually listen to Halford and Brough while on this forum. Definitely my favourite hosts, especially for younger fans like me. The people's show on 650 is pretty decent as well. While Drance is usually a Debbie downer, I like following his twitter and arguing with him there lol.
  15. The bumper is a shooting position. Very prime position from the slot. Think how many goals Horvat has scored from there.
  16. I like they’re actually trying to shake things up. This could provide a nice look. I might change Garland right side, Brock left, and Petey in the bumper. No big slappers for Petey but he could very well be dynamite in the bumper spot.
