The rebuild is far from done. I was listening to Botchford and he did make some points how The Canucks need to execute the off season perfectly and he does have a point.

He highlighted that the team around Horvat, Boeser, Hughes, and Petterson are just not good enough and there are too many similar bottom 6 grinders in the team.

Botchford is preaching to the choir. CDCers have noted that the 'missing pieces' are all top end pieces. #1 LD, #1 RD, #1 LW. If you ignore the constant whine of the eternally negative CDCers, consensus is that the foot soldiers of our team are pretty well taken care of ! A little tweeking will always be in the works, but three, maybe four, big pieces need to be added!

  2. I could see MB being offered an AHL deal if there are no NHL takers. The fact that JB used up all 50 slots may have been a factor. I don't know where the 50 man roster will stand on 1st July. If there is lots of room ( doubt it ) then a Woo like, delayed contract, could have been reached. I thought the exact same stuff with Carl Neill tho'. We'll strike pay dirt on one of these late pick RDs one day !

I meant that Virtanen was the only significant pick that had injury problems before being drafted but this list is staggering to say the least.

I know it's not in your time frame, but a few of us remember JJ Daigneault coming on to the draft stage on crutches. ( evidently it caught the Canucks by surprise too ! )

I think durability should be a factor for who we pick. Its the Canucks so of course their going to get hurt, but how much games missed is a big question?

I need some help here. How do we know who is durable and who isn't ? Capt Hindsight usually appears a couple of years after the fact, never before !

A menace to the game? The best commissioner in all of sports is a menace to the game. There’s a reason he got inducted into the hall of fame he’s one of the greatest if not the greatest. People just pretend he’s this villain because they want to find a scapegoat, it’s a victim complex I’ll never understand it’s fun to boo Bettman but anyone that actually knows or follows his work knows he’s good at what he does.

Bettman is very good in certain areas. His prime job is to enhance the NHL while protecting the owners interests. Three work stoppages reek of failure !

Don't like my reply? Don't read it either then.

Or man up and don't take it personally when people disagree with you.

You think this about me being mad that you're disagreeing with a hypothetical idea  no, it's that you were such a sissy by the sounds of it and couldn't handle reading another post with this kind of suggestion. What am I supposed to care that you are fed up with reading this narrative, guess what I don't give a crap if you were reading them all and it's got you upset, what am I supposed to feel sorry because you're sitting here reading everyone's post I guess suggesting the same idea. I didn't come on here to throw out a suggestion to have a poster cry to me because he's fed up with reading the same thing, don't like it don't read it, pretty simple.

Not sure how you know you don't like something if you don't read it !

Leipsic has scored 13 goals in his entire NHL career.  He is a borderline NHL player.  Pearson was a first round pick, played on a top line in LA scoring 25 goals and won a Stanley Cup.  The two players aren't even in the same stratosphere...

I much prefer Pearson over Leipsic, but you are cherry picking with the draft history. Pearson was not drafted his first eligible year. Not his 2nd year either. Drafted at 20 yrs. If Leipsic had gone undrafted, his 120 points for Portland in his D+1 year may well have made him a #1 round pick !

I don't remember the stats exactly, but players drafted after 20th overall chances of playing more than 100 games in the NHL drop significantly.  I think in the early 2nd round it drop to less than 10%.

Therefore, the only reason to move from 10 to 19, is if Benning think he found a gem that he really likes and is ranked outside the top 20.  Usually, there is a significant drop in talent after the top 10, so I see no reason to drop 9 spot only to add an early 2nd.

Usually, the cost of moving 3-4 spots in the 20-31 range is a 2nd rounder.  Therefore, if we are moving 9 spots back, I want way more than a 2nd and Abramov.  I'd want at least 2 top 25 picks.  Still i'd rather pick quality at 10 than quantity.

We have reached a point where we don't have a big need for 3rd/ 4th line forwards or 3rd pairing d-men. We definitely need quality over quantity ! Keep #10 !

Does anyone else kind of hope that the BJs win the series?

Yes and no. Yes............... Loved that Kekalainen went outside the usual comfort zone and threw everything he had at winning now. CBJ were a little too close to not being in the playoffs for comfort. No #1.............hated Totorella as our coach ! No #2..............If TML make it to the second round, I think TBL are better suited to making sure they don't get to the SCF !

Forgive me if I am wrong, But Canucks should buy or own an ECHL team. Have lower end prospects and other players under contract or available to be signed to PTO's during the year that are playing in a similar system to what is being run on our AHL team. Injuries will always happen, so call ups then follow suit. To be going year in year out with countless random PTO signings to players from other  bottom tier leagues in a different system too boot is never going to lead to success.

Fact is we still need to draft even better and get more and more prospects into the AHL, ECHL or be able to bring them over from a european league. 4 years of JB now no, not too many mid to late round picks that are in the A helping and honing their game hoping to try crack the NHL. Gaudette may be down in Utica to start next year until we lose a C to an injury. Give him lots of ice in all situations, get him time with LInd, Gadj and maybe some other prospects to gel and hopefully compete for a playoff spot in the A next year.

Unless there is a big area of concern it makes 0 sense to fire Cull, then all the players will just have to learn another new system again.

Well, if you're wrong, join the club ! From last month.......

...........Agree. Plan A wasn't a bad plan using what we ( Canucks/ Comets ) had in the system. For the 3rd or 4th year in a row, both clubs have been decimated with injuries. Simple fix tho' ( tongue in cheek ). 'We' have to have our own ECHL franchise. I don't know if that's doable under NHL rules. Don't know if ECHL teams can/ do make a profit. I'm more than happy to spend Aqulini's money, but I believe it would be money well spent !

Schroeder’s downfall wasn’t even necessarily his size. He just stopped being a good hockey player. His production in college literally just dipped in half or something after his draft year. You can’t really attribute that to size because he was doing fine the year before

You may be correct, but 99% of the 'negative commentary' was around his size, so when things didn't work out, size was the villain ! ( true/ false, no-one knows for sure ! )

Wasn't Schroeder supposed to be small and a can't miss prospect?

Yes he was ! Many of us were really jubilant when he dropped to us. We all suffer from 'remember Schroeder' syndrome ! Some wounds don't heal easily !

  13. Really enjoy all the draft talk. Wish I could join in, but I have seen ( not live ) about 10 players that I know of, and in minute samples. How do CDCers form their opinions ? Every now and then, someone will say that they watch the Giants or Cougars etc, but I fear that most are in the same boat as me. I refuse to watch YouTube clips ( got scalded by forming an oh so wrong opinion of Dane Fox from doing that ) and except for WJC and Mem Cup, I know nothing ! When CDCers churn out top ten lists, I would love to know if their lists are from first hand opinion or is from reading others' opinions. Looking forward to MyNHLdraft updating their 'scouting' rankings ! That's where I get about 90% of my opinion from.

  14. Final set of numbers from me.......the 2011 SCF ( yes we had a dog in the fight ! )

    Boston Bruins ....26+ =13 ( 42x1, 36x1, 33x2, 32x1, 31x1, 30x1, 29x2, 28x1, 26x3 ) .....25- =7 ( 25x2, 24x1, 23x1, 22x 2, 18 x1 )

    Vancouver......26+ =15 (35x1, 33x1, 31x1, 29x4, 28x2, 27x3, 26x3 )......25- =6 ( 25x1, 24x4, 20x1 )......only players with 10+ games.
