  1. No, you're off a tad on the waiver process. Don't sweat the details re what rules do and don't apply. Use the CapFriendly site to answer all ( most ) questions for you. Two way contracts are a payroll issue and have nothing to do with waivers. Here's a link to the Canucks roster. If there is no 'little green down arrow' next to a player's name, he must pass through waivers ! https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/canucks EDIT: if a player's salary is in 'green', it's a two way contract. If in 'black', it's a one way !
  2. Not sure why so many CDCers think that not making the opening night roster equals 'not making the team'. Asset management will definitely be used, but if Gaudette is squeezed out because of 'veteran contracts', it will be short/ very short term ! Any rookie deemed best, or equal to best, at his position will just have to have patience. Canucks management wants long term, low cost rookies as much as we ( the fans ) do !
  3. Perhaps some hilarious, fun loving media wag will call them the Hughes sisters ! We can all laugh and laugh and laugh. ( not )
  4. Yes, I think that JB ( ? ) said that our top 7 pre draft were all gone after our pick. Arizona was probably aware of Hayton being highly rated. He did suddenly do an uptick on a few mock drafts just days before the actual draft.
  5. Both McEneny and Sautner are NHL quality dmen. Sautner opened a lot of eyes at the end of last season. ( looked better than Pouliot and Hutton in my opinion ) while McEneny chose a terrible time to get injured. He is 25, but has missed two seasons of hockey. The big question is whether we can get these two to Utica. The uncertainty of rosters at waiver time might be in our favour, but I'm sure that other teams are aware of their potential.
  6. Spot on. Once management has a roster in mind, the 'bigger picture' comes into play. Asset management. If you can bypass waivers, chances are you'll be in Utica. Management will then ( my opinion ) make a 10/ 20/ 30 game window to push the roster into it's desired shape.
  7. Sorry to quote myself, but the 20 year old draft era should have had way more hits than misses. Apples and oranges !
  8. Agree with your post, but just a fact check.........Marner has only played in the NHL.........and........it's Matthews/ Rielly ( sorry about the last petty point )
  9. 20 year old draft made things much, much easier for the scouts. A couple of good later picks Lidster, Graham ( given away for free.....does that count as a good pick ) and Sundstrom from an era where off shore picks weren't too common.
  10. I think that one of the most interesting stories in September will be 'which Ben Hutton' comes to training camp. There will be many different shiny new toy question marks to be answered and a handful of 'is he good enough' questions to be answered ( Gaunce, McEneny, Sautner, Brisebois, Chatfield ), but for me, the one that tops the list is Ben Hutton. Last year's Ben is gone in a heartbeat. Good Ben will add a whole lot of depth to the left side. C'mon Good Ben !!
  11. Absolutely the best decision. Bouchard was my choice at the draft, but now that he is 'ours', I want a long and successful career for him. A wise, wise move !
  12. The 5th round has been very kind to the Canucks....... 1974 ) Mike Rogers ( 484 games ) 1979 ) Dirk Graham ( 772 g. F.Selke winner, Capt Team Canada ).......sadly let go for nothing. ( who was the GM ? ) 1981 ) Moe Lemay ( 317 g ) 1985 ) Robert Kron ( 771 g ) 1990 ) Gino Odjick ( 605 g ) 1992 ) Adrian Aucoin ( 1108 g ) ( most goals in a season by a Canuck dman I think ) 1993 ) Scott Walker ( 829 g ) ( lost on waivers I think ) 2001 ) Kevin Bieksa ( 808 + g ) 2004 ) Mike Brown ( 407 g ) 2012) Ben Hutton ( tbd ) 2014) Gustav Forsling ( tbd ) Gaudette might be right up there ! Optimism is free !
  13. Found the clip.....thanks to @UticaHockey
  14. Tried to find the video of McEneny's injury, but failed. Found this 'all goals' clip tho'. Doesn't show any defensive stuff, but it's summer so maybe worth a look.
  15. Post #1.......too many errors to be anything but confusing. Post #2......yet another trade all the veterans play all the shiny new toys two years before they're ready post.
  16. Green sent McEneny down 2015/ 16. Had him for a full season 2016/ 17 and he was often the first to be praised by coach Green. He was injured in Cull's first season. McEneny took his ECHL season and should be complimented for his professional approach to a less than perfect situation. He has progressed every year. He will have a solid NHL career. I'm hoping it's with us.
  17. Dumbest question of the day. Is his name Quinton or Quinn ? If it is Quinton, why is the short version not Quin ? Yes.......it's summertime.
  18. We claimed Martin Gelinas from Quebec. A better version of Baertschi ? Probably had a lot more to give but Keenen and the potato chip wanker moved him out of town !
  19. One of these years, the Canucks/ Comets will have an injury free ( relatively ) season and we won't know what to do with all the bodies !
  20. All these Utica signings seem to be ECHL related. We 'normally' only seem to have 3 to 5 players with a Utica/ Canuck connection at that level. I wonder if TL/ JB have talked Aqualini into taking ownership control of Kalamazoo ?
  21. I wonder how much of him 'being out of shape' had to do with being newly married ? Have heard that it can be a distraction. Someone asked, earlier in this thread, how is his current fitness level. I think the answer to that question might be what his 'normal' fitness level is. ( edit... @gurn )
  22. There will so so many ?s at camp this year. Most will be about our very shiny new toys. There will be a number of ?s about veterans. Eriksson, Gaunce, Sutter and Markstrom. Markstrom, after years of grooming, kind of dropped the ball in his bid to be a #1 goaltender. Too many early goals and too many games with a soft goal. 2018/ 19 is, I believe, the make or break year for JM. He has the ability. Can he make ability into reality ?
  23. When his KHL contract ends, his value on the 'nucks or in a trade to a 'Russian friendly' team will be a great asset. I have no idea which team has the best off ice support system for Russians ( Washington ? , TB ? ). I'm guessing that the off ice support is important to Mr & Mrs T. !!
  24. Started watching MacEwan late in his in his Gatineau period, before the 'nucks signed him. Of course my interest went way up once he was signed. He was great at the CHL level, but I don't remember him being a 'distributor' of the puck. I see him as a wing, or a Sutter type centre at best. Way, way too early to start pencilling him in as a centre, but maybe a cup of coffee on the wing next season.
  25. Okay......I'm totally nervous about QH turning pro this year ! Think I'll have to let Cpt Hindsight ( 2020 version ) give his always accurate summary.
