  1. It's great having a deeper talent pool than we're accustomed to, but the 50 man roster limit is not our friend. Players like Palmu, Zhukenov, Jasek, Candella and Brassard might be lost in the numbers game. AHL contracts can be offered, but are not a given to be taken.
  2. Like most posters, I'm more than happy with the Lind ( and Gadjovich ) pick. On draft day, I was rooting for 2x d-men from the 2nd round. Maybe this year ? Off topic, I think we exaggerate how 'down' other GMs are re not getting EP. The top 12++ picks are all wins at the moment. Everyone is happy !
  3. Keep repeating this mantra as you watch Nathan MacKinnon brush by Troy Stecher with ease. Like all things NHL, you can't overload in any one area. In 2014, we were overloaded in the Euro/ Swede area. We absolutely needed bigger players. The California teams were killing us. Nylander ( and to a far lesser degree, Ehlers ) was NOT an option. There were no prime d-men available. The choice was Virtanen or Ritchie.
  4. Kudos. Now why can't all posters be this humble and readily admit when they are wrong ? PS.....am I getting this 'passive aggressive' thing right ?
  5. Except for the big dollar contract, there is nothing like [ insert name of unmentionable piece of cr....] here. LE is not wearing #12. Hank is still captain. Your comparison is an uncalled for insult.
  6. Believe it was credited as Baertschi's #13 goal, 17th Feb vs Boston. http://www.espn.com/nhl/gamecast?gameId=400962507
  7. Bringing this from the Gaudette thread. McEneny, through some fairly odd criteria, was not required to go through waivers this year. It was one of those rare CBA things that benefited the 'nucks. Not fortuitous on the 2nd round pick for the Tortorella signing scale, but avoided ( I think ) a real possibility of losing him. His current injury kind of negates any good fortune that came our way. McEneny will not be part of our top 6 + Juolevi + ( #1 draft pick ). Can he be the 2nd spare d-man along with Biega ? I hope so, he's my favourite from the Comet ranks. PS....everything here assumes that there is no personnel movement in the off season. I'll try to find the criteria that allowed him to be waiver free.
  8. Don't want to be picky, but 23g + 20a doesn't add up to 53. Look forward to seeing him at training camp !
  9. It would be so nice to have Comet games televised. We could make a much better informed opinion. Cull seems to be a good man to have in Utica. I think that he was our 3rd choice, so I'm not too sure how high our expectations were/ are. I have heard Cull speak, maybe 3 times, and each time, he has included Ashton Sautner's name in a positive way. Reading between the lines, he seems to rate Sautner above Brisebois and Chatfield. ( he likes all 3 of those names) I don't know what plans JB has for AS, ( he was held back by concussion issues 2016/ 17 ). If nothing changes with our current d corps, I think that Juolevi has a big hill to climb before he is part of our top 6 d-men.
  10. You're possibly right, but his usage/ non usage should have a modicum of class. I try not to be a Bettman conspiracy person, but I would fall off the couch on draft day if we don't drop the usual 2 spots.
  11. Everyone taking an easy shot at JJ. Not a shiny new toy.......dump on him. Just a cap dump.......dump on him. JJ does hold value. He just may be that veteran presence in Utica/ #14 forward a la Mike Keane. ( 2018/ 19 ) Probably gone at season's end, but he really should get 3 or 4 games in this year. Canucks have class, they'll do the right thing !
  12. Really enjoy that 'nucks fans have a good news story in EP. The part of the EP story that CDCers seem to be exaggerating is how JB rocked all the other gms. I love this pick, but go through the first 15 picks. They're all having great seasons. I really don't see any gm crying in his office over their pick. Excellent draft year by early indicators.
  13. Dennis Kearns was THE whipping boy for several seasons. He got zero respect from the negative side of our fan base. Small ( 5'9" ? ), soft ( not a big plus in the Broad Street bully era. ) CDC would have howled at the moon if was playing today. They would forget about Weber, Megna, Raymond etc.. Kearns was a great Canuck !
  14. JB's initial focus as GM was to even out the age groups. Can't be all rookies and soon to leave veterans. It was a difficult job and there was more than a couple of bumps in that road. We are fairly well balanced age wise now, with holes in the elite d-man area. I don't know why so many are itching to move to a new unbalanced team. Stop trying to get rid of Tanev and Edler. Next year we have several rookies who will get long looks in training camp. Gaudette, I think, tops that list. Pettersson, Dahlen, Juolevi, McEneny and #1 pick are lower on that list. If everyone on that list made the team and we lost our two top d-men, it would be a disastrous season. Be patient. The 2019/ 20 season is the year that JB's long term plans should start to be seen on the ice.
  15. For the positive and negative leaning Canuck fans, the one area in which we can all be unrealistically positive is the 'shiny new toy' department. Dane Fox or Tyler Motte, it doesn't matter, for a short while they will be leading us to our first SC. Once reality sets in they will find their true place in the toy cupboard, Dane Fox is stuck behind the Mackenze Stewart action figure in the furthest, darkest parts of the cupboard. As of today, Tyler Motte is at the front of the cupboard. A favourite. For how long ? Hopefully he'll be there when we hoist that big shiny cup !
  16. Indeed it is. Once got nailed in the forehead at 60mph on my m/c. Was dazed. Rhino picked himself up and flew off. ( there were no good 'thorn' pics )
  17. The last handful of #9s........Prust/ Kassian/ Hodgson/ Pyatt /Keane/ Druken.
  18. Sorry about the blank. It should be a list of all #9s from CanuckLibrary. Copy and paste seems to be unavailable.
  19. Yes they do. Every CDCer and all other hockey boards know of the ubiquitous Captain Hindsight. 100% every time.
  20. True. Boston, especially at forward, are way ahead of us. Bergeron, Krejci and Marchand give them way more leeway. On defence, I'm a little surprised that they have done so well. Carlo and McAvoy are surprisingly good. I think we would crash and burn with 6 rookies next year.
  21. I think that JB has a huge issue with when our deep list of NHL bound prospects actually play in the NHL. Anything more than 2 or 3 in any one year might be too hard on the team. Imagine 6 prospects arriving at the same time ! Exciting, but not a rebuild positive. OJ's arrival might be dependent on how many other prospects make the 2018/ 19 roster.
  22. Now if there is a talented team mate whose wife is a good friend with Tryamkin's wife, we have a cunning plan afoot !
