The age thing was triggered by the Eastern block players starting to come over. They had years of professional time under their belts and the feeling at the time was that the rookie tag was being tarnished. Makarov I think was the final straw. ( only two players over 26 ever won the Calder. )

This is a real issue ! The ED means the Canucks have to make a tough choice. Markstrom or Demko. It's almost decision time. Both look good ( great on occasion ). You have to have a plan to deal with this issue ! If there was no ED, @aGENT's thoughts would be odd, but these are not 'normal' times !

Agreed. But......if JB doesn't move one or the other by the ED and loses one to Seattle, the villagers will be getting out their torches and pitchforks ! The whole asset management thing gets us back to 'should we trade Demko ?'. Normally, the answer is absolutely not, but the ED changes that !

Who are you protecting at the ED ? It can't be both !

With the ED coming up, a lot of 'outside the box' thinking will be going on. I think that Markstrom can be pencilled in for the next +/- 7 years, so a Demko move might be discussed !

We're at 50 contracts now, so any deal would have to start next season. I'm guessing that the 'nucks are not expecting Madden to sign.

Like many, the 2011 SCF leaves the worst aftertaste. There were many ugly things to remember, but the contempt that HNIC crew had for us was the worst. Craig Simpson was the worst of the bunch !

It would be interesting to hear what the insurance companies feel about paying out these 'wink wink. nudge nudge' LTIRs ! Having spent a couple of very forgettable years in short term insurance, I know how carefully they track out going payments. Probably a bit more winking and nudging happening behind closed doors !

In their 'draft day' videos they only show ( without re-watching ) JB plus the guys on his left/ right ( Brackett/ Weisbrod I think ) talking. So that makes sense. After the first couple of rounds, I'm sure there are specific area scouts jumping up and down begging for 'their guy' to be picked. It would be nice to get an unedited draft day record. ( impossible, but it would be nice ! )

Well, actually, it's exactly the same Gudbranson. I believe that JB stated that 'our' top 7 were all gone after 7 picks. Different order, I'm assuming. I'd think that if that is true, then Hayton could easily have been a Canuck !

Are there any other teams who have dropped every year since this format was introduced ? I'd be surprised if we're the only one ! If we drop again and any other draft losing team does too, I see a big push to revamp this system. Various ideas have been put forth. They are all easy to implement and are much more fair. My preference is three 'winners'.....#1 moves up 7 slots #2 up 5 slots, #3 up 3 slots.

Haha........I owned a Plymouth Breeze. Basically, the same car. Absolute garbage ! Will never touch another Chrysler product. PS........when I first bought it, I kept finding myself humming JJ Cale's 'Call me the breeze', so there were positive moments.

Didn't LA get a big 'freebie' with ending a high cost contract ? It may have been Richards too, but I seem to recall them 'getting away' from a tough contractual situation. Giving them two freebies might have been too much for, even, Bettman. I would be more than surprised if we are not punished for an early NHL exit by Luongo.
