  1. Pearson was an odd pick because he was two years older than most picks. It was a weak draft and GMs went into non traditional areas to find players. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Gillis picked Alex Mallett in the second round ( same age as Pearson ).
  2. I notice that the WHL has reduced it's season from 72 to 68 games. Both OHL/ QMHL were already on a 68 game schedule.
  3. This does not affect our roster count. As a sliding ELC it is dormant till Woo leaves the WHL.
  4. It's probably the -137 in 6 seasons ( -35 this season ). However, CDC has always been very understanding of negative plus/ minus stats ! He'd be tied to the whipping post pretty quickly !
  5. Not a totally wasted thread. Learned a new word. Now how can I include 'doxing' in a comment ? The rest ? Blah, blah, blah, hatred, emotional angst, blah, blah !
  6. It's been a couple of days since taking a puck to the head. Any news ?
  7. Tsk, tsk, tsk.......with a name like BPA, you're advocating drafting per 'current need' ! Actually I don't disagree
  8. Even Capt Hindsight might have a hard time coming up with 'who we should of drafted'. Slim pickings in 2013. Really only a small handful made any impact at all. ( Andrew Copp being #1 stats wise. Hardly worth getting overly excited about )
  9. Well, that's not what the analytics crowd was saying. They were saying that EG was the worst d-man in the league. 'Fit' wasn't in the narrative. You're moving the goal posts !
  10. All those fancy analytics. Small change in scenery and tah-dah the analytics have gone from worst in the league to +/- middle of the pack. The fact that it's the same player, no change in health, same ability, same...same....same but sends the prognosis into the garbage bin should be a huge warning sign for the analytic crowd. But.....it won't. Watch the reasons ( aka excuses, aka lies ) start to flow !
  11. Difficult question. Once he has no OHL team to slide to, perhaps he has to count against the 50. As an overager, he would have ended his OHL eligibility. So........???
  12. Always a dangerous time, asset wise, when a GM has to 'win now' to keep his job. Was it Keenan who traded for Burke, Ciccone and Sanderson, then moved them after a handful of games ? Turned Gelinas and McLean into Huscroft, Snow ( ugh ) and May ( good ). Wasted assets. I don't agree that JB is on a very short leash tho'. After next season, that debate becomes relevant !
  13. Don't think a day off will help. We just had 4 days between games. No real uptick. EP40 looks exhausted, mentally and physically. Is falling down more than usual, his passes are nowhere near as precise as earlier in the season and hardly ever gets his shot off ( the other team, of course, has a lot to do with this ). Knowing EP40, he will come to camp next season with a plan to deal with all these issues ! Once the NHL 'grind' overwhelms you, it takes a long rest to recuperate !
  14. I think some of any non announcement, one way or the other, is from the Canucks side. Their roster count is at 48. There are three names on the 'to be signed' sheet. Lockwood, Brassard and ( rumour ) Sturm. Only two can be signed. Brassard, in my opinion, is third on the list and will only be signed once Lockwood, Sturm or 'mystery name from nowhere' say no thanks !
  15. Are the HF termites backing down at all ? Doubt it. Went there once a while back when CDC was down for a few days. Scary place. So much stupidity in one contained area. Only name I recognised from CDC was Canadian Rugby. He was like 'the voice of reason' over there. Here, I have him on ignore because of constant negativity !
  16. Because he is 24, it's a one year ELC. Expires in 13 games time. JB can take a good look at this player if he wants to. This is actually a deal that the 'DimJim' crowd should be praising. I see zero downside to this signing.
  17. Because if that was our offer, he'd have signed elsewhere !
  18. As much as it's true that drafting BPA is a logical mantra, at some point a GM has to address positional need. We have plenty of 3rd pairing d-men. We need top/ 2nd pairing d-men. In the Virtanen draft, only Capt. Hindsight could come up with a d-man to pick. The Boeser draft doesn't have a realistic d-choice jump out. The Juolevi draft was a point where it had to happen or be Oilers 2:0 for a long, long time. Of course the Tkachuk success has thrown shade over our pick, but realistically it had to be done. The debate really isn't/ wasn't Tkachuk or Juolevi, it was 'which d-man to draft ?' The Hughes draft is the first in JB's time that BPA and best d-man aligned naturally. PS...........I was surprised that at least one of Lind/ Gadjovich was not a d-man pick. Don't agree with 2 forwards with our lack of d depth.
  19. In the 3-2 loss to Oshawa, I saw 2 of his 3 goals against. One was very, very soft. Not tight to the post, had a goal go in from a bad angle. The other goal was 'deja vu' from his Canuck game, diving forward to his left, opening up way too much of the upper net. It was a good shot, but I'm a tad nervous about his game translating to the NHL.
  20. It's not a performance bonus. It's a locked in bonus signed for at the start of his 6 year contract. He doesn't have to explain anything !
  21. Thanks for the reply. I still look at the Auston Matthews final year and it appears that TML could be paying his salary while on a new team if the full salary/ bonus retention options are used. I do think that if the 'nucks are allowed to pay 50% of any signing bonus, then LE's contract becomes very move-able, especially if done just after paying an annual bonus payment.
  22. Juolevi's skating has been dissected by a handful of CDCers. Added weight is listed as a problem. First strides are listed as a problem. I have not seen OJ play this year, but the impression I got from various media/ commentators was that he was having trouble when good skaters went wide to his left. He was too slow to adjust. Then the surgery. Could the turning problem and the reason for the surgery not be the same issue ? PS.....last I heard ( 3/4 weeks ago ? ) he was on crutches. Any updates ?
  23. Can't really argue here, but...........it is not the way I remember LE's contract being discussed some time back ( ie...the 'bonus' portion making the deal hard to move ) ! I wonder for instance if TML wanted to retain on Auston Matthews in the final year of his contract. If TML moved him after paying his signing bonus, the amount would be way higher than his actual salary ( 750k salary/ 7.2mil bonus.....AAV +11.6mil ). Perhaps @SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME or @mll can put some clarity on this !
