So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
BPA replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
I'd be fine with any of the BPA listed in the top 10. I prefer a F be picked over a D. But that's just my preference. Would prefer Eklund or Lysell cuz their skillset can probably be added quickly (like Caufield...recency bias ). McTavish and Johnson would be good adds as well but might take a bit longer to join the big club. Like that they are bigger and can't be easily pushed off the puck. -
[proposal] Canucks and Seattle (and beyond)

All that and couldn't trade LE along with the 1st? -
Canucks can't have that many D making $6M. 3D is enough (Hughes, Meyers, Schmidt). At 82M / 23 players = $3.5M avg per player. Now obviously better players get more. My preference is to keep 7D at around 24.5M +/- 1M Let's just say Hughes signs for $6M. And Hamonic is $3M. So possible D roster is as follows (just rounding numbers for easy math)... Hughes (6) Hamonic (3) Schmidt (6) ....( x ) OJ (1) Meyers (6) Rathbone (1) So that leaves about $2M to find a big stay at home D. If the desire is to get a more dynamic offensive D, then Canucks need to move Schmidt or Meyers. Edit: Just look at the remaining teams left in the playoffs. None of them have more than 2 D making more than $5-6M. And yet now the Canucks will have 3. Having 4 D taking that much cap space means very little scoring depth.

Patrick for Virtanen? Both players need a fresh start.
-
No kidding. But guess they both are being stubborn.

McKinnon said he's willing to take a discount on his next deal in order to keep the team together. Said he wants to win with this team/group. I say if he get $9M/yr...then that's a friendly team discount.

Shanahan and Dubas made it clear on Wednesday that they are doubling down on the plan that got them here. At this point — seven years into the Shanaplan — they are betting their futures, their reputations and quite likely their jobs on the core of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander.

BC Covid-19 restart phase 4: Increased capacity at larger organized gatherings. So I'm guessing full building capacity.

[Discussion] If exposed would Seattle take Myers
BPA replied to goblix's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
So Canucks re-sign Hamonic (which I expected them to do), lose Myers, and hope we can sign a RHD to fill in the minutes Meyers played? So how does that improve the Canucks D next year? -
Simple solution at cap circumvention. Stamkos gets "injured" during the summer and goes on LTIR for year and miraculously is fine for the start of the playoffs.

[proposal] Vancouver Canucks - Buffalo Sabres:

Read in a rumor blog that BUF will probably trade Eichel as there are "trust issues". And let his neck issues be some other teams problem. -
Tampa is in a win now mode. So I don't think they care much about losing a prospect. Guessing they would rather keep the core and make roster improvements where possible.

Yep. Getting rid of Meyers is like 2 steps back. Who's gonna replace him? Myers will be protected from the expansion draft by JB. -
-
Is DiPietro = 1st? I don't think so. Cuz from past trades, it takes a 1st to get rid of contracts like LE. So at least a 2nd or another top prospect is needed. Rather just ride our 1 more year of LE instead weakening our prospect depth.

If Meyers is exposed, SEA will definitely take him. He has 3yrs left at $6M. A big RHD to stabilize the D on their noob franchise. Then next year they can trade him with 50% retention and snag a 1st in 2023. -
I don't think it'll be that bad. People are itching to do stuff after a year of not doing anything. People want things to go back to normal.
-
That would suck if SEA gets Bedard in 2023 (the next generational talent).
